LAKEWOOD - The Board of Education voted tocontinue courtesy busing for the remainder of theschool year Wednesday, but the school districts state-appointed monitor could override its decision.

The monitor, Michael Azzara, overrode an earlierresolution calling for funds to be reallocated to coverthe cost of nonmandated busing, saying it would forcedozens of layoffs.

The board then unanimously amended the resolu-tion, deleting the reference to reallocating funds. Az-zara said he would wait to see if the Township Commit-tee decides to provide the district with $2.5 million inaid today before acting on the resolution.

The board then adopted a third resolution, saying itwould hire former state Comptroller Matthew Boxerto sue the New Jersey Department of Education if Az-zara doesnt continue courtesy busing.

About 900 residents once again packed the highschool auditorium Wednesday night for a meeting onthe anticipated cancellation of courtesy busing for
