ਵਡੇ� ਵਤਿਡੇਆਈ ਜੇ ਤਿਨੇਹਚਲਾ ਥਾਉ ॥

Vaddee Vaddiaaee Jaa Nihachal Thhaao ||Great is His greatness, as permanent as His Throne.

ਵਡੇ� ਵਤਿਡੇਆਈ ਜੇਣਾ( ਆਲਾਉ ॥Vaddee Vaddiaaee Jaanai Aalaao ||Great is His greatness, as He knows our utterances.

ਵਡੇ� ਵਤਿਡੇਆਈ ਜੇ ਆਪ੍ਰ� ਆਤਿਪ੍ਰ ॥Vaddee Vaddiaaee Jaa Aapae Aap ||Great is His greatness, as He Himself is all-in-all.

ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈਹ4 ਹ�ਕਤਿਮ ਸਮਇ ਲਾਏ ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈਹ4 ਹ�ਕਮ� ਕਰ� ਤਿਵਣਾਸ� ॥Eikanhaa Hukam Samaae Leae Eikanhaa Hukamae Karae Vinaas ||By His Command, some are merged into Him, and some, by His Command, are destroyed.

ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈਹ4 �ਣਾ( ਕਤਿ; ਲਾਏ ਇਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈਹ4 ਮਇਆ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਤਿਨੇਵਸ� ॥Eikanhaa Bhaanai Kadt Leae Eikanhaa Maaeiaa Vich Nivaas ||Some, by the Pleasure of His Will, are lifted up out of Maya, while others are made to dwell within it.

ਏਵ ਤਿ� ਆਤਿ! ਨੇ ਜੇਪ੍ਰਈ ਤਿਜੇ ਤਿਕਸ( ਆਣਾ� ਰਤਿਸ ॥Eaev Bh Aakh N Jaapee J Kisai Aanae Raas ||

No one can say who will be rescued.

ਨੇਨੇਕ ਜੇ�ਅੰ ਉਪ੍ਰਇ ਕ( ਤਿਲਾਤਿ! ਨੇਵ( ਧਰਮ� ਬਹਤਿਲਾਆ ॥Naanak Jeea Oupaae Kai Likh Naavai Dhharam Behaaliaa ||O Nanak, having created the souls, the Lord installed the Righteous Judge of Dharma to read and record their accounts.

ਓਥਾ( ਸਚ� ਹ� ਸਤਿਚ ਤਿਨੇਬੜੀ( ਚ�ਤਿਣਾ ਵਤਿ! ਕ;� ਜੇਜੇਮਤਿਲਾਆ ॥Outhhai Sachae Hee Sach Nibarrai Chun Vakh Kadtae Jajamaaliaa ||There, only the Truth is judged true; the sinners are picked out and separated.

ਥਾਉ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਇਤਿਨੇ ਕ"ਤਿੜੀਆਰ ਮ�ਹ ਕਲ੍ਹ੍ਹੈਹ4 ( ��ਜੇਤਿਕ ਚਤਿਲਾਆ ॥Thhaao N Paaein Koorriaar Muh Kaalhai Dhojak Chaaliaa ||The false find no place there, and they go to hell with their faces blackened.

ਤਿਵਸਮ�� ਸ�ਜੇ�ਗੁ� ਤਿਵਸਮ�� ਤਿਵਜੇ�ਗੁ� ॥Visamaadh Sanjog Visamaadh Vijog ||Wonderful is union, and wonderful is separation.

ਅੰਗੁ( ਕਰਣਾ� ਕ�ਰਤਿ� ਵਚ�ਐ ਬਤਿਹ ਲਾ�! ਕਤਿਰ ਸਮਝਇਆ ॥Agai Karanee Keerath Vaacheeai Behi Laekhaa Kar Samajhaaeiaa ||There, his good and bad deeds are added up; sitting there, his account is read.

ਬਜੇਰ� ਬਜੇਰ ਮਤਿਹ ਆਇ ਕ;ਤਿਹ ਬਜੇਰ ॥Baajaaree Baajaar Mehi Aae Kadtehi Baajaar ||The magicians perform their magic in the market place, creating a false illusion.

ਗੁਵਤਿਹ ਰਜੇ� ਰਣਾ�ਆ ਬ�ਲਾਤਿਹ ਆਲਾ ਪ੍ਰ�ਲਾ ॥Gaavehi Raajae Raaneeaa Bolehi Aal Pathaal ||They sing as kings and queens, and speak of this and that.

ਲਾ! ਟੀਤਿਕਆ ਕ� ਮ��ੜੀ� ਲਾ! ਟੀਤਿਕਆ ਕ� ਹਰ ॥Lakh Ttakiaa Kae Mundharrae Lakh Ttakiaa Kae Haar ||They wear earrings, and necklaces worth thousands of dollars.

ਤਿਜੇ�� ਤਿਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਈਅੰਤਿਹ ਨੇਨੇਕ ਸ� �ਨੇ ਹ�ਵਤਿਹ ਛੰਰ ॥Jith Than Paaeeahi Naanakaa Sae Than Hovehi Shhaar ||Those bodies on which they are worn, O Nanak, those bodies turn to ashes.

ਤਿਗੁਆਨੇ� ਨੇ ਗੁਲਾ�ਈ ;";�ਐ ਕਥਾਨੇ ਕਰੜੀ ਸਰ� ॥Giaan N Galeeee Dtoodteeai Kathhanaa Kararraa Saar ||Wisdom cannot be found through mere words. To explain it is as hard as iron.

ਉਤਿਡੇ ਉਤਿਡੇ ਰਵ ਝਟੀ( ਪ੍ਰਇ ॥Oudd Oudd Raavaa Jhaattai Paae ||The dust flies and falls upon their hair.

ਵ�!( ਲਾ�ਕ� ਹਸ( ਘਤਿਰ ਜੇਇ ॥Vaekhai Lok Hasai Ghar Jaae ||Beholding them, the people laugh, and then go home.

ਰ�ਟੀ�ਆ ਕਰਤਿਣਾ ਪ੍ਰ"ਰਤਿਹ �ਲਾ ॥Rotteeaa Kaaran Poorehi Thaal ||They beat the drums for the sake of bread.

ਆਪ੍ਰ� ਪ੍ਰਛੰੜੀਤਿਹ ਧਰ�� ਨੇਤਿਲਾ ॥Aap Pashhaarrehi Dhharathee Naal ||They throw themselves upon the ground.

ਗੁਵਤਿਨੇ ਗੁ�ਪ੍ਰ�ਆ ਗੁਵਤਿਨੇ ਕਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈਹ4 ॥Gaavan Gopeeaa Gaavan Kaanh ||They sing of the milk-maids, they sing of the Krishnas.

ਗੁਵਤਿਨੇ ਸ�� ਰਜੇ� ਰਮ ॥Gaavan Seethaa Raajae Raam ||

They sing of Sitas, and Ramas and kings.

ਤਿਨੇਰ�ਉ ਤਿਨੇਰ�ਕਰ� ਸਚ� ਨੇਮ� ॥Nirabho Nirankaar Sach Naam ||The Lord is fearless and formless; His Name is True.

ਜੇ ਕ ਕ�ਆ ਸਗੁਲਾ ਜੇਹਨੇ� ॥Jaa Kaa Keeaa Sagal Jehaan ||The entire universe is His Creation.

ਬ�ਧਨੇ ਬ�ਤਿਧ �ਵਏ ਸ�ਇ ॥Bandhhan Bandhh Bhavaaeae Soe ||The Lord binds us in bondage - so do we spin around.

ਨੇਤਿਚ ਨੇਤਿਚ ਹਸਤਿਹ ਚਲਾਤਿਹ ਸ� ਰ�ਇ ॥Nach Nach Hasehi Chalehi Sae Roe ||Those who dance and dance and laugh, shall weep on their ultimate departure.

ਉਤਿਡੇ ਨੇ ਜੇਹ� ਤਿਸਧ ਨੇ ਹ�ਤਿਹ ॥Oudd N Jaahee Sidhh N Hohi ||They do not fly to the heavens, nor do they become Siddhas.

ਨੇਚਣਾ� ਕ��ਣਾ� ਮਨੇ ਕ ਚਉ ॥Nachan Kudhan Man Kaa Chaao ||They dance and jump around on the urgings of their minds.

ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਨੇਰਤਿਕ ਸ�ਰਤਿਗੁ ਅੰਵ�ਰ� ॥Ho Vich Narak Surag Avathaar ||In ego they go to heaven or hell.

ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਹਸ( ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਰ�ਵ( ॥Ho Vich Hasai Ho Vich Rovai ||In ego they laugh, and in ego they weep.

ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ �ਰ�ਐ ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਧ�ਵ( ॥Ho Vich Bhareeai Ho Vich Dhhovai ||In ego they become dirty, and in ego they are washed clean.

ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਜੇ�� ਤਿਜੇਨੇਸ� !�ਵ( ॥Ho Vich Jaathee Jinasee Khovai ||In ego they lose social status and class.

ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਮ"ਰ!� ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਤਿਸਆਣਾ ॥Ho Vich Moorakh Ho Vich Siaanaa ||In ego they are ignorant, and in ego they are wise.

ਮ�! ਮ�ਕਤਿ� ਕ� ਸਰ ਨੇ ਜੇਣਾ ॥Mokh Mukath Kee Saar N Jaanaa ||They do not know the value of salvation and liberation.

ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਮਇਆ ਹਉ ਤਿਵਤਿਚ ਛੰਇਆ ॥Ho Vich Maaeiaa Ho Vich Shhaaeiaa ||In ego they love Maya, and in ego they are kept in darkness by it.

ਹਉਮ( ਕਤਿਰ ਕਤਿਰ ਜੇ�� ਉਪ੍ਰਇਆ ॥Houmai Kar Kar Janth Oupaaeiaa ||Living in ego, mortal beings are created.

ਹਉਮ( ਬ"ਝ( � �ਰ� ਸ"ਝ( ॥Houmai Boojhai Thaa Dhar Soojhai ||When one understands ego, then the Lord's gate is known.

ਤਿਗੁਆਨੇ ਤਿਵਹ"ਣਾ ਕਤਿਥਾ ਕਤਿਥਾ ਲਾ"ਝ( ॥Giaan Vihoonaa Kathh Kathh Loojhai ||Without spiritual wisdom, they babble and argue.

ਹਉਮ( ਤਿਕਥਾਹ� ਊਪ੍ਰਜੇ( ਤਿਕ�� ਸ�ਜੇਤਿਮ ਇਹ ਜੇਇ ॥Houmai Kithhahu Oopajai Kith Sanjam Eih Jaae ||Where does ego come from? How can it be removed?

ਹਉਮ( ਏਹ� ਹ�ਕਮ� ਹ( ਪ੍ਰਇਐ ਤਿਕਰਤਿ� ਤਿਫਰਤਿਹ ॥Houmai Eaeho Hukam Hai Paeiai Kirath Firaahi ||This ego exists by the Lord's Order; people wander according to their past actions.

ਹਉਮ( ��ਰਘ ਰ�ਗੁ� ਹ( �ਰ" �� ਇਸ� ਮਤਿਹ ॥Houmai Dheeragh Rog Hai Dhaaroo Bhee Eis Maahi ||Ego is a chronic disease, but it contains its own cure as well.

ਤਿਕਰਪ੍ਰ ਕਰ� ਜੇ� ਆਪ੍ਰਣਾ� � ਗੁ�ਰ ਕ ਸਬ�� ਕਮਤਿਹ ॥Kirapaa Karae Jae Aapanee Thaa Gur Kaa Sabadh Kamaahi ||If the Lord grants His Grace, one acts according to the Teachings of the Guru's Shabad.

ਓਨ੍ਹ੍ਹੈਹ4� ��ਨੇ�ਆ ��ੜੀ� ਬ�ਧਨੇ ਅੰ�ਨੇ� ਪ੍ਰਣਾ� ਥਾ�ੜੀ !ਇਆ ॥Ounhee Dhuneeaa Thorrae Bandhhanaa Ann Paanee Thhorraa Khaaeiaa ||They burn away the bonds of the world, and eat a simple diet of grain and water.

�"� ਬ!ਸ�ਸ� ਅੰਗੁਲਾ ਤਿਨੇ� ��ਵਤਿਹ ਚੜੀਤਿਹ ਸਵਇਆ ॥Thoon Bakhaseesee Agalaa Nith Dhaevehi Charrehi Savaaeiaa ||You are the Great Forgiver; You give continually, more and more each day.

ਵਤਿਡੇਆਈ ਵਡੇ ਪ੍ਰਇਆ ॥੭॥Vaddiaaee Vaddaa Paaeiaa ||7||By His greatness, the Great Lord is obtained. ||7||

ਅੰ�ਡੇਜੇ ਜੇ�ਰਜੇ ਉ��ਜੇ/ !ਣਾ� ਸ��ਜੇ/ਹ ॥Anddaj Jaeraj Outhabhujaan Khaanee Saethajaanh ||The four sources of creation - born of eggs, born of the womb, born of the earth and born of sweat;

ਸ� ਤਿਮਤਿ� ਜੇਣਾ( ਨੇਨੇਕ ਸਰ/ ਮ�ਰ/ ਜੇ��ਹ ॥So Mith Jaanai Naanakaa Saraan Maeraan Janthaah ||Oceans, mountains, and all beings - O Nanak, He alone knows their condition.

ਅੰ�ਨੇ� ਨੇ !ਇਆ ਸ�� ਗੁਵਇਆ ॥Ann N Khaaeiaa Saadh Gavaaeiaa ||One who does not eat the corn, misses out on the taste.

ਅੰਪ੍ਰਣਾ ਕ�ਆ ਕਮਣਾ ॥Apanaa Keeaa Kamaanaa ||Suffers by his own actions.

ਅੰਲਾ� ਮਲਾ� !ਈ ਤਿਸਤਿਰ ਛੰਈ ਪ੍ਰਈ ॥Al Mal Khaaee Sir Shhaaee Paaee ||One who eats filth and throws ashes on his head

ਮ"ਰਤਿ! ਅੰ�ਧ( ਪ੍ਰਤਿ� ਗੁਵਈ ॥Moorakh Andhhai Path Gavaaee ||The blind fool loses his honor.

ਤਿਵਣਾ� ਨੇਵ( ਤਿਕਛੰ� ਥਾਇ ਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਈ ॥Vin Naavai Kishh Thhaae N Paaee ||Without the Name, nothing is of any use.

ਰਹ( ਬ�ਬਣਾ� ਮੜੀ� ਮਸਣਾ� ॥Rehai Baebaanee Marree Masaanee ||One who lives in the wilderness, in cemetaries and cremation grounds

ਅੰ�ਧ� ਨੇ ਜੇਣਾ( ਤਿਫਤਿਰ ਪ੍ਰਛੰ��ਣਾ� ॥Andhh N Jaanai Fir Pashhuthaanee ||- that blind man does not know the Lord; he regrets and repents in the end.

One who meets the True Guru finds peace.

ਕਮ� ਨੇ� ਬ� ਸਤਿ� ਪ੍ਰ�ਛੰ�ਐ ਬਤਿਹ ਬਤਿਹ ਕਰ� ਬ�ਚਰ� ॥Kaam Naeb Sadh Pushheeai Behi Behi Karae Beechaar ||Sexual desire, the chief advisor, is summoned and consulted; they all sit together and contemplate their plans.

ਅੰ�ਧ� ਰਯੀਤਿ� ਤਿਗੁਆਨੇ ਤਿਵਹ"ਣਾ� �ਤਿਹ �ਰ� ਮ�ਰ�ਰ� ॥Andhhee Rayath Giaan Vihoonee Bhaahi Bharae Muradhaar ||Their subjects are blind, and without wisdom, they try to please the will of the dead.

ਤਿਗੁਆਨੇ� ਨੇਚਤਿਹ ਵਜੇ� ਵਵਤਿਹ ਰ"ਪ੍ਰ ਕਰਤਿਹ ਸ�ਗੁਰ� ॥Giaanee Nachehi Vaajae Vaavehi Roop Karehi Seegaar ||The spiritually wise dance and play their musical instruments, adorning themselves with beautiful decorations.

ਊਚ� ਕ"ਕਤਿਹ ਵ� ਗੁਵਤਿਹ ਜੇ�ਧ ਕ ਵ�ਚਰ� ॥Oochae Kookehi Vaadhaa Gaavehi Jodhhaa Kaa Veechaar ||They shout out loud, and sing epic poems and heroic stories.

ਮ"ਰ! ਪ੍ਰ�ਤਿਡੇ� ਤਿਹਕਮਤਿ� ਹ�ਜੇਤਿ� ਸ�ਜੇ( ਕਰਤਿਹ ਤਿਪ੍ਰਆਰ� ॥Moorakh Panddith Hikamath Hujath Sanjai Karehi Piaar ||The fools call themselves spiritual scholars, and by their clever tricks, they love to gather wealth.

ਧਰਮ� ਧਰਮ� ਕਰਤਿਹ ਗੁਵਵਤਿਹ ਮ�ਗੁਤਿਹ ਮ�! ��ਆਰ� ॥Dhharamee Dhharam Karehi Gaavaavehi Mangehi Mokh Dhuaar ||The righteous waste their righteousness, by asking for the door of salvation.

ਜੇ�� ਸ�ਵਤਿਹ ਜੇ�ਗੁਤਿ� ਨੇ ਜੇਣਾਤਿਹ ਛੰਤਿਡੇ ਬਹਤਿਹ ਘਰ ਬਰ� ॥Jathee Sadhaavehi Jugath N Jaanehi Shhadd Behehi Ghar Baar ||They call themselves celibate, and abandon their homes, but they do not know the true way of life.

ਸ�� ਕ� ਪ੍ਰ"ਰ ਆਪ੍ਰ� ਹ�ਵ( ਘਤਿਟੀ ਨੇ ਕ�ਈ ਆ!( ॥Sabh Ko Pooraa Aapae Hovai Ghatt N Koee Aakhai ||Everyone calls himself perfect; none call themselves imperfect.

ਪ੍ਰਤਿ� ਪ੍ਰਰਵਣਾ ਤਿਪ੍ਰਛੰ( ਪ੍ਰਈਐ � ਨੇਨੇਕ ��ਤਿਲਾਆ ਜੇਪ੍ਰ( ॥੨॥Path Paravaanaa Pishhai Paaeeai Thaa Naanak Tholiaa Jaapai ||2||If the weight of honor is placed on the scale, then, O Nanak, one sees his true weight. ||2||

वदी� सु� वजगि� नानाका सुचा व खै� सु�इ ॥Evil actions become publicly known; O Nanak, the True Lord sees everything.

ਸ�ਨੇ� ਛੰਲਾ ਮਰ�ਆ ਕਰ� ਕਰ� ਸ� ਹ�ਇ ॥Sabhanee Shhaalaa Maareeaa Karathaa Karae S Hoe ||Everyone makes the attempt, but that alone happens which the Creator Lord does.

ਅੰਗੁ( ਜੇਤਿ� ਨੇ ਜੇ�ਰ� ਹ( ਅੰਗੁ( ਜੇ�ਉ ਨੇਵ� ॥Agai Jaath N Jor Hai Agai Jeeo Navae ||In the world hereafter, social status and power mean nothing; hereafter, the soul is new.

ਤਿਜੇਨੇ ਕ� ਲਾ�!( ਪ੍ਰਤਿ� ਪ੍ਰਵ( ਚ�ਗੁ� ਸ�ਈ ਕ�ਇ ॥੩॥Jin Kee Laekhai Path Pavai Changae Saeee Kaee ||3||Those few, whose honor is confirmed, are good. ||3||


ਧ�ਤਿਰ ਕਰਮ� ਤਿਜੇਨੇ ਕਉ ��ਧ� ਪ੍ਰਇਆ � ਤਿ�ਨੇ� !ਸਮ� ਤਿਧਆਇਆ ॥Dhhur Karam Jinaa Ko Thudhh Paaeiaa Thaa Thinee Khasam Dhhiaaeiaa ||

Only those whose karma You have pre-ordained from the very beginning, O Lord, meditate on You.

ਏਨੇ ਜੇ�� ਕ( ਵਤਿਸ ਤਿਕਛੰ� ਨੇਹ� ��ਧ� ਵ�ਕ� ਜੇਗੁ�� ਉਪ੍ਰਇਆ ॥Eaenaa Janthaa Kai Vas Kishh Naahee Thudhh Vaekee Jagath Oupaaeiaa ||Nothing is in the power of these beings; You created the various worlds.
