Senior Year Myth

It’s time to take it easy because I’m a senior! I think I will drop math second semester and take

gym….

MYTH

FACTOh no! Senior year helps prepare for college, military & career acceptance. Choices made during 12th grade set the tone for college/career.

Must complete the core curriculum requirements. 4 Years LA 4 Years Math 3 Years Science 3 Years SS (Government)

Pass all portions of the OGT Test, Math, Science, Social Studies, Reading & Writing.

October 22nd – November 2nd

March 11th – March 22nd

Must complete required courses and accumulate 26 credits to participate in graduation ceremony (24 for CTC).

Must Include the Common Core and NTLSD Requirements

Must have all outstanding fees paid on the Wednesday, May 22, 2013 in order to participate in graduation.

Option # 1 - College

Attend College Information Night – November 1, 2012 (6:00p)

Attend College Fair – November 2, 2012 (During the School Day)

Attend FAFSA Night – January 10, 2013 (6:00p)

Fill out college/scholarship/NCAA/NAIA applications

Be sure to meet all application deadlines. Check college web sites and contact the admissions office to be sure.

Bring items to be sent to the guidance office. Don’t assume the counselor knows your child is applying to a school. FILL OUT A TRANSCRIPT REQUEST for every application (EXCEPT COMMON APP).

Be sure to have ACT/SAT scores sent to colleges: www.actstudent.org/www.collegeboard.com. Allow 2-4 weeks prior to deadline for college to receive.

NCAA/Students aspiring DI or DII athletics: meet with counselor to assure all high school classes align with NCAA standards. Students must go to ncaa.org to file an application to be cleared. A transcript needs to be sent for NCAA clearing.

Top 10 College Application Mistakes

Financial Aid is any scholarship, grant, work study, or loan that will help pay for college.

File FAFSA (free application for student aid) no sooner than Jan.1: www.fafsa.ed.gov but prior to the college FAFSA deadline.

Do not pay an agency to assist with financial aid. Use our guidance office and college financial aid offices for assistance.
