“At a certain late hour of the night, the sky around Prineville would suddenly light up because of hundreds of stills being fired at the same time.” -David Braly`

Data can be viewed as the lowest level of abstraction from which information and then knowledge is derived. Through a process of distillation, data begins to aggregate and a variety of conclusions can be made through multiple iterations of reassembling the same set of data.In a distillery, disparate ingredients are processed and culled and the end product provides an undistinguished base for further refinement and specification.

From the timber industry to Les Schwab Tire Headquarters, Prineville has experienced its fair share of economic dependencies. Currently, Prineville has been the location for energy intensive data centers due to its dry and arid climate. Looking to be proactive and not reactive, the city of Prineville is looking to diversify in multiple directions, includingincreased recreation based activities, restoring the wetlands to revive the steelhead population, and potentially building a sports facility for neighboring towns.

The NOAA Datacenter and Distillery aims to help maintain ecological diversity within Prineville, support the local economy by providing a wide range of career opportunities and increase tourism.
