FROM OUR PASTOR
This past month our parish staff and key volunteers have been talking about and planning for our Lenten programs this year. The theme that we are having this year is—no theme. We’ve decided to keep things simple and prayerful this year, so that we can experience Lent as
a parish, and as individuals, with reverence and peace. We are all so busy with everything else we do, that having Lent be not an extra burden, but instead, a source of oneness with God will be such a blessing for us all. This week we have our Ash Wednesday Masses at 6:30 am, 8:15 am, Noon, and 6:30 pm; Friday Stations of the Cross at 6 pm; and our Fish Fry in Saint Clare Hall from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. There. Easy, prayerful, and fellow-ship. God is so very good to us.
Dear Parish Family & Friends,
Peace and all good, Fr. Steve Giannini

Days of Abstinence Fridays
March 8, 15, 22, 29 April 5, 12
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of FASTING and ABSTINENCE for Catho-lics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The norms concerning ABSTINENCE from meat are binding upon mem-bers of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 on-wards. If possible, the FAST on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the "paschal fast" to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily his Resurrection.

Our Lenten Almsgiving Collection will support the Harvest Food Pantry and the Center Grove Blessings in a Backpack. This Lent, let our almsgiving, with prayer and fasting, be a part of our answer to the question: “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink?” (Matthew 25:37) Almsgiving envelopes will be distributed on Ash Wednesday and the First Sunday of Lent. Envelopes will be available at the Information Desk throughout the Lenten season.
Harvest Food Pantry In response to the need to feed the hungry in our community, Saints Francis & Clare of Assisi’s Harvest Food Pantry was opened on February 25, 2012. Starting by serving 18 families once a month, the Harvest Food Pantry now provides needed food items to over 120 families twice a month. Your alms will help the Harvest Food Pantry address the recent rapid increase in the number of families we support.
Blessings in a Backpack Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children across America who might otherwise go hungry. Our local Blessing in a Backpack was started in 2012 in one elementary school. Today it provides food for the family to 250 children in all five Center Grove elementary schools every weekend of the school year.
