My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who worked so hard to make the Installation Mass so beautiful. It was a wonderful celebration. A special “thank you” goes out to our choir, musicians and servers, to Jennifer Ewing and those who baked for the reception following the Mass.

I would also like to thank everyone who participated in our parish picnic. It really was a “fun-raiser!” A special thank you to Bob Mapel and the Knights of Columbus for their hard work.

Please remember that our children are back in school, so use caution when driving in the parking lot. As you may have noticed (hopefully not by surprise) speed bumps have been installed to slow the movement of traffic around the Church.

Due to the request of many of our parishioners, we will be changing the time for our Vigil Mass and our confession times as well. Please note: Confessions (beginning next Saturday) will be from 2:30-3:30 with Mass beginning at 4:00 p.m. I hope that this change will better accommodate the needs of our parishioners.

Please remember that we have a lending library of very fine spiritual books in Mary’s Room as well as inspiring CDs for sale in the back of the Church. Please check out the selections. For the CDs please place the $3.00 per CD in the envelope provided and place it in the collection basket or take the money to the rectory. Do not leave any money by the display case. and plan to begin your Labor Day holiday with Mass at 9 a.m., giving thanks to our Heavenly Father for the gift of work, praising Him for giving us the ability to work, and praying for those who are unemployed or underemployed in this depressed economy. Our God is as near as our whispered prayer. How much more attentive might He be to many voices lifted high in recited and sung prayers of the Mass.

A time of fellowship with coffee and “goodies” will follow Mass. Please join us in Church on the 6th of September.

Thank you for your generosity. Unfortunately though, we seem to be running behind the amount that we took in before our merger. Collections are down and expenses are up. Your generosity is absolutely needed if we are to maintain the programs that we have at our parish. If you can be more generous in your donation, or even consider tithing, it would be most appreciated. It is one way of thanking God for all that He does for us. Thank you for your kind consideration. The children have shared these “Good Deeds for God.” They are written exactly as the children presented them. We regret that space does not permit us to record all of the “deeds” the children shared this week.

♦ I sat with my sister when she was scared. ♦ I held the door for a lady with a stroller. ♦ Making my bro. bed with no one asking. ♦ I gave a rubber bracelet (silly bands) that I really liked to my

aunt Jen. ♦ I spent time with my Grandpa.

Thank you, children, for sharing these . Thank you, children, for sharing these . Thank you, children, for sharing these . Thank you, children, for sharing these . Father IrelandFather IrelandFather IrelandFather Ireland

22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time Are you planning a cookout next weekend? Many people use the Labor Day holiday as an opportunity for an end of the summer celebration. The grocery stores will have special sales this week in an effort to entice people to stock up for the holiday weekend. Are you a union member who will be going to a large labor picnic? Or will it just be the family getting together, maybe at the beach or a lake cottage for a final summer plunge in the water? In any event, we all probably have a pretty good idea of who will be at our tables. It's unlikely that there will be uninvited guests-except for the ants or mosquitoes that seem to plague any outdoor event this time of year.

In the Gospel today Jesus lays down the challenge of who should be invited to the banquet. The poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind are the ones that are on his guest list. These were the individuals who were often excluded from society in Jesus' time. They were the folks that were on the fringe. Today, there are righteous people who have made a point of welcoming the unwanted. They've taken literally the message of the Gospel, and have gone out of their way to invite to dinner the homeless or the poor.

There are many who exercise a very concrete response to Jesus' call through their support of a meal program or food pantry, whether they donate food, or their time, or cash to support the good work. We tend to think of the poor at Thanksgiving or Christmas, times when we're often more generous toward those in need. But with back-to-school costs right now, many families are suffering. It may not be possible to invite someone who is hungry or poor to your cookout next weekend, but you can still help them through a gift to a charity that feeds the hungry

Attention Parents!

PSR Classes begin Sunday, September 12 …so... it’s time to register your children for religious instruction

for the school year 2010-2011 if you haven’t already done so.

We are asking ALL parents to accompany their child(ren) to the PFC (Parish Family Center) Gymnasium by 10 a.m. on Sunday, September 12, to receive classroom assignments. Following a short introduction of the administrative and teaching staff, you and your child will proceed to the student’s classroom where you will receive an overview of the coming year presented by the teacher.

All students in grades one through eight who are not enrolled in a Catholic school need to attend Sacred Heart of Jesus’ Parish School of Religion. Student registration forms for the PSR are now available in the Parish Office. Tuition is $100.00 per family. There is an additional $35 sacramental fee for students in grades 2 and 8.

Protect Life Cross Display to Remind Fairgoers

NEWBURY, Ohio, August 20 --- Motorists traveling past Saint Helen’s Roman Catholic Church on their way to the Great Geauga County Fair over the Labor Day weekend will see a dramatic display of 144 white crosses on the church’s front hillside. The white crosses memorialize the millions of unborn American children that have been victims of abortion.

The dramatic display of 144 small white crosses will cover the front lawn of the church as a reminder to passersby of the 144 innocent lives ended by surgical abortion every hour since the Roe vs. Wade decision in 1973. The total of aborted children in the United States has now exceeded 50 million and counting.

Members of HELP, the pro-life group of Geauga parishes, Saints Helen, Edward and Lucy will place the memorial crosses on St. Helen’s front lawn facing Rt. 87 in the next few days. The white cross display will remain through the holiday weekend to provide the community with a visible witness to the enormity of the evil of abortion.

Mr. Denver Sallee, a pro-life leader at St. Helen parish said, “the crosses will make a very strong statement to the community of the unspeakable evils of abortion and the surgical killing of tens of millions of our unborn American children. Last year the white cross display attracted wide community and media attention and proved to be an excellent vehicle for our message of life. Such a visible testimony is especially important now as we deal with the impact of the recent national health care reform bill. We must be vigilant to ensure that no public monies are used to pay for abortions covered under the new health care programs,” he added.

Catholic bishops have made it crystal clear that any health care reform must protect life from conception to natural death and respect the conscience rights of health care professionals. “Public funds should not be used for abortion or euthanasia programs, Sallee said.”

Questions about the display and the HELP group may be directed to the St. Helen representative, Mr. Denver Sallee at 440.338.8649, or [email protected] . The HELP Pro-Life group is comprised of members of Roman Catholic parishes in Geauga County: Saint Helen, (Newbury), Saint Edward (Parkman) and Saint Lucy (Middlefield).
