Our Parish Mission: Christ calls our parish family to be a

beacon of hope in a rapidly changing community.

NEVER ALONE The local support group for parents, family, friends and community interested in drug and

alcohol addiction is now meeting here at St. Paul’s in our parish office conference room on Monday evenings at 6:00. This wonderful group has been providing encouragement as well as education and support to those in our area struggling with issues related especially to the abuse

of substances. If you have these issues in your family or know someone who does, come on Mondays to find a welcoming group of folks, many of whom have been there and/or are there!

TABLE OF HOPE Free Hot Meals are provided at First Methodist Church on West Street 5-6 pm Monday,

Wednesday & Friday. Everyone is welcome to come to share the meal and the fellowship. Some new volunteers are needed during the summer months. Please feel free to bring your

children or grandchildren for a wonderful Christian service opportunity. Next Friday, July 22, is the Fourth Friday and our Parish’s regular day to

staff the Table of Hope. We are badly in need of volunteers to cover for regulars who are on vacation. If you can help please call the

office early in the week and let us know. This is a wonderful opportunity to show children the meaning of Christian service—bring them along with you.

COMMUNITY BREAD B ASKET Every week we continue to offer non-perishable foods, soaps and paper products for those in our community who need a little extra help to make ends meet. Our parish along with other

churches, businesses and groups in the community provide these items after the command of Christ to take care of one another. Bring anything you can to the offering baskets in the back of

church on Sunday and a volunteer will see they are delivered to the Bread Basket.

AIR CONDITIONING At long last AC is coming to St. Paul Grade School! TUDI Mechanical Co. is in process of

tearing out old piping and installing new lines and units for the new heating and cooling system! We have run into some asbestos problems but these should not delay things too much. Most of

the project will be finished by the first day of school in August. Many thank to all who contributed to the Capital Campaign or are paying on pledges.

Excerpts from “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship - Part I - The U.S. Bishops’ Reflection on Catholic Teaching and Political Life” 2. The political realities of our nation present us with opportunities and challenges. We are a nation founded on "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," but the right to life itself is not fully protected, especially for unborn children, the terminally ill, and the elderly, the most vulnerable members of the American family. We are called to be peacemakers in a nation at war. We are a country pledged to pursue "liberty and justice for all," but we are too often divided across lines of race, ethnicity, and economic inequality. We are a nation of immigrants, struggling to address the challenges of many new immigrants in our midst. We are a society built on the strength of our families, called to defend marriage and offer moral and economic supports for family life. We are a powerful nation in a violent world, confronting terror and trying to build a safer, more just, more peaceful world. We are an affluent society where too many live in poverty and lack health care and other necessities of life. We are part of a global community charged with being good stewards of the earth's environment, what Pope Francis calls "our common home," which is being threatened. These challenges are at the heart of public life and at the center of the pursuit of the com-mon good.1 They are intertwined and inseparable. As Pope Francis has insisted, "We are faced . . . with one complex crisis which is both social and environmental. Strategies for a solution demand an integrated approach to combating poverty, restoring dignity to the ex-cluded, and at the same time protecting nature" (Laudato Si', no. 139). 7. In this statement, we bishops do not intend to tell Catholics for whom or against whom to vote. Our purpose is to help Catholics form their consciences in accordance with God's truth. We recognize that the responsibility to make choices in political life rests with each individual in light of a properly formed conscience, and that participation goes well beyond casting a vote in a particular election. The entire Statement can be found at http://www.usccb.org/issues-and-action/faithful-citizenship/forming-consciences-for-faithful-citizenship-part-one.cfm

This week: Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Genesis 18:1-10a Colossian 1:24-28 Luke 10:38-42

Background: When you are on your way to Jerusalem (remember Luke’s journey motif)

for a show down with the religious and political authorities about the Kingdom of God, it is

no time for a five course gourmet dinner with good china and crystal, Martha! A one-pot

meal on paper plates is really all that is necessary. Mary has chosen the better part

because she has chosen to hear the critical message of the kingdom rather than getting

all wrapped up in details of hospitality at an inappropriate time.

Next Week: Genesis 18:20-32 Colossians 2:12-14 Luke 11:1-13

Adult Bible Study

No bible study this week due to Father Larry’s vacation. We will resume next week on Tuesday at 6:30 pm.
