In addition to these charitable and fundraising activities, we are always looking for opportunities to get together as a family. This includes such things as our recent outing to a Mad Ants game and our annual outing to a Tin Caps game. As head of our council, I am open to new ideas that will help us further engage our current membership. During the coming months, Fr. Dan will be asking us to assume greater leadership roles within the parish. This includes working with other groups such as Rekindle the Fire and the school. Our next major project will be the restoration of the headstones in the old parish cemetery. Brother Jim Cox is spearheading this effort along with assistance from the Catholic cemetery staff. The project is expected to get underway this June. I would also ask you to mark your calendar for the first district-wide Corporate Communion for the Knights of Columbus. It will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Saturday, May 16th at the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please bring your families as well to this testimonial to our faith as Knights. If you plan to attend, please email [email protected] with the number in your family who will be attending. We need the count so we can reserve pews for those members in attendance. I look forward to seeing you at our April 9th Open House as well as the regular business meeting on April 19th and our next first degree which is scheduled for April 23rd. Happy Easter!!

Brothers, At our most recent meeting, I shared with the members that we have election of officers coming up at our June meeting. I have asked the three trustees to serve on our nominating committee to select our initial slate of officers. This slate will be presented to all members at our April meeting and again in June. Members will also have the opportunity to submit additional nominees from the floor. In addition to the elected offices, we will be appointing new directors as some have already asked to step down from their current positions. Keep in mind that to be an

Field Agent Report... Brother Knights, April 15 - tax day - is right around the corner. It’s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax savings vehicle. A secon-dary approach is to tout the rate of interest that money in one of these accounts can earn. Let me join the chorus of folks encouraging you to open or add funds to an annuity, but for a different reason. Certainly, contributing money to a Knights of Columbus annuity will allow you to save some money on your income tax re-turn. And our annuities do pay a very competitive interest rate, consistent with our primary goal of absolute safety of princi-pal. Opening or adding to an annuity for these reasons, however, strikes me as taking a short-term view of a product that is designed to provide long-term security. How much security? How does a retirement income that you cannot outlive – guaran-teed – sound to you? Here at the Knights of Columbus, you can open a retirement annuity for as little as $300. Consistent and disciplined savings placed into that annuity over time can guarantee you an income at retirement that you cannot outlive. That guarantee – along with the fact that no one has ever lost money left in a Knights of Columbus annuity (remember – absolute safety of principal), really will provide you with peace of mind. I am happy to meet with you – at your convenience and in your home – to explain in detail the benefits of opening a Knights of Columbus annuity, along with the benefits of our top-rated life insurance and long term care insurance plans. As you ponder all the things that may not work out as you proceed toward retirement, think about one thing you can do to help yourself – opening a Knights of Columbus annuity. It’s reasonably priced ($300 to start), guaranteed, and controlled by someone you trust – you! Keith C. Praski, FICF/MDRt Phone: (260) 833-2024 Email: [email protected]

ProLife Report... Immigration “The more prosperous nations are obliged, to the extent they are able, to welcome the foreigner in search of the security and the means of livelihood which he cannot find in his country of origin. Public au-thorities should see to it that the natural right is respected that places a guest under the protection of those who receive him.”(Catechism, 2241).

————————————————————————————————————————————————— Membership Dues....

The 2015 Knights of Columbus membership dues statements have been sent out. If you did not receive one please contact the Financial Secretary right away. Please submit your dues as soon as possible. If you are having trouble paying your dues please contact the Financial Secretary or the Grand Knight… we have a Brother Knight fund estab-lished to help those that may be in unemployed or under-employed. Don’t be afraid to ask. Also, please don’t for-get to return the Gibault raffle tickets that were included with your dues statement as well. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Cemetery Project Update....

Brother Jim Cox arranged a recent meeting with Fr. Dan, Bruce Cadwell, Dennis Fech, and Casey Miller, who is the newest director of the Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne. We will need some strong backs to assist in the project and Catholic Cemetery will provide us with the necessary equipment to move the heavier stones. We are confident that we can accomplish this task over a few weekends. Once completed, we will have a pretty good idea as to whether there is additional space for future parish burials. Dates TBA Related to this will be the possible relocation of some seventeen existing gravesites at the old St. Michael’s Ceme-tery which is now owned by a Baptist Church. The diocese would like to see these remains moved to a Catholic cemetery. Details still need to be worked out but again, we will be working with Casey Miller and the parish to see what we can do to get this accomplished as well. —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-

Indiana Bishops Release Pastoral Addressing Poverty in Indiana.... Hopefully, you had the opportunity to read this Pastoral that has been sent to all of our Brother Knights. If you have not done so, here is the link that will take you to the Pastoral as well as to the survey that Bishop Rhoades has asked us to complete. http://www.todayscatholicnews.org/2015/03/indiana-bishops-release-pastoral-addressing-poverty-in-indiana/ One you read this and complete the survey, think about how St. Vincent K. of C. Council 11353 can assist in these efforts. We made an initial stride this past Christmas with the adoption of two families. Can we do more? What should we do? There are new opportunities for our Council to engage the parish and community. Bring your ideas to a council meeting or contact a council officer with your suggestions.

——————————————————————————————————————————————————— K of C Shirts.... Some members have asked about ordering K. of C. polo shirts. I have been in contact with Jennifer Ramos of Ramons Apparel and Designs to see about ordering shirts for our members. I am waiting on a final price from her on both polo shirts as well as wind shirts. As soon as I have that, I will pass it along to all members. You will be able to order directly from her. Since we opted to allow for individual orders, you will be required to pay sales tax on these shirts. ————————————————————————————————————————————————————

From Your Grand Knight ... I know a couple of emails have now bounced around concerning the April breakfast. After my last email, I have given serious thought to the fact that we do poorly on the breakfasts held in the spring. We are competing with First Communions, Confirmations, Graduations, people heading to their lake cottages, etc. I am willing to contact the parish office and see about the availability of the Life Center for a coffee and donut Sunday perhaps in mid-May. The cost will be relatively low and we will not need a great deal of manpower to pull it off. In addition to the coffee and donuts, we could provide hot tea for the non-coffee drinkers as well as milk and juice for the kids. This can serve as a springboard for an earlier discussion we had about sponsoring coffee and donuts on at least some of the Sundays throughout the year when we do not have our full-blown breakfast. Let me know your thoughts and I will check with the parish office. Perhaps, we can pull it off in conjunction with the photo sessions for the pictorial directory which will begin on Mother's Day. Thanks for listening. Dennis
