Outgoing Grand Knight Report
Knights KnewsKnights KnewsKnights KnewsKnights Knews July 2019
Brothers,
Council elections were held at our last business meeting on June 11th. To our most worthy heirs, I want to extend my deepest congratulations and pledge of unyielding sup-port for a most successful 2019-2020 administration.
This Month we said farewell to a spiritual leader, brother knight, friend and one heck of a vocalist. Father Gregorio Hidalgo completed his residence at St. Rose of Lima and has was reassigned to St. Philomena’s in Carson California. Father Gregorio (Goyo) brought a unique element that complimented the current lineup of im-pressive Celebrants. Always quick with a joke, good advice and rarely off-key, I liked to think of him as our secret weapon. He will be missed by those fortunate enough to witness his many gifts.
On Sunday June 9th the Council held the annual Chili Cook-Off and Car Show. Although our numbers were down due to the heat, we still managed to stay in the black. Unfortunately you can’t control Mother Nature. I want to thank PGK Rick Ostrich for another fabulous year of service. A special thanks to PGK Gene Walinski (Car Show), SK Mark Griffith and PGK John Lindscot (Sound), SK Chris Fabry (food), PKG George Gnesda (admissions), SK Frank Kiesler (tickets), PGK John Antonacci (Chili Cooks), our new GK Christopher Smith

(Funnel Cake) and the rest of you who worked tirelessly to put on this event. As al-ways we want to thank Fr. Shea for the use of the Parish grounds. Last but not least, I want to thank our brother PGK Al McKinley who started this event 32 years ago with $200 in his pocket and fish full of tenacity. God Bless you Al, we couldn’t have done it without you!
We finished out the month supporting the St. Rose of Lima Carnival. As I’ve wit-nessed year after year, the Knights covered every post that wasn’t ride related, making for a fun and most lucrative event! Needless to say, it’s not always about the money. As Pope John Paul II recognized on many occasion, the true value of the Knights of Columbus is much more profound than monetary contributions. In 2003 the Pontiff stated, “From its foundation, your Order has been committed to the material and spiritual well-being of its members and to the promotion of the Church’s mission.” Thank you for rolling up your sleeves again and again. You have reason to be proud!
Well this is it, my final Grand Knight report. We started the 2018-2019 Columbian year with several financial challenges that threatened our very existence as a coun-cil. Fortunately we were able to work through rough patches without compromising our objectives. I want to thank my officers for standing by me through the difficult times and the rest of you for your understanding and support, particularly when hard decisions had to be made. It has been an honor and a privilege to server as your Grand Knight. May the Holy Spirit remain with each of you until God the father call all of us to his Kingdom.
Vivat Jesus,
Robert W. Smith, Past Grand Knight

Incoming Grand Knight Report
First and foremost, allow me to thank you from the bottom of my heart
for putting your trust in myself and the other officers to lead our council
this Columbian year. We will do our best to serve you, and ask that you
pray for us, that our words and actions are always in keeping with the
guiding principles of the Knights of Columbus.
While on the topic of prayer, I heard something in a speech at this year’s
State Convention that stuck with me, though for the life of me I cannot
recall for whom to attribute it. He stated that our meetings should not on-
ly begin and end with a prayer, but that they should be a prayer, from be-
ginning to end. I ask that you keep this simple yet powerful idea in your
mind at each of our meetings. This year will be met with its share of
challenges, some new and some lingering. As we have done every year
in past, we will work through them as brothers and as Knights. It is my
hope that this will always be done in a manner becoming of Catholic
gentlemen. Let us constantly strive to reflect Christ’s love in how we act
in public, and how we treat each other. Our charity is empty if it is not
performed with a cheerful heart.
In closing, again, my sincerest thanks for affording me the honor of be-
ing your Grand Knight. While I may not always perform to your liking,
know that both my mind and my heart have the best of intentions, as has
been true for all those preceding me.
Vivat Jesus,
Christopher Smith, Grand Knight
Hope to Cope
We so often hope for things of this world without ever remem-bering our first hope is God. We hope for God, God’s bless-ings of grace, God’s life for us. It’s not a what that we hope for, but a who that we hope in. The Psalms speak to us of hope joined with God’s mercy. Psalm 33:22 tells us “May your kindness, Lord, be upon us; we have put our hope in you.” We put all of our hope in God. We place our trust in God who has promised eternal life. Psalm 39:8 says: “And now, Lord, what future do I have? You are my only hope.” Psalm 62:6 “My soul, be at rest in God alone from whom comes my hope.” Psalm 65:6 “You answer us with awesome deeds of justice, O God Our Savior, The hope of all the ends of the earth.” In all of these phrases, we realize that everyone, everywhere at all times, is called to hope in God’s abiding mercy, care, love, and kindness. There is no other source of hope. Psalm 119 is full of references to hoping the word of God. Verse 116 is particularly full of meaning for those who look to God as the source of their hope which says, “Sustain me by your promise that I may live; do not disappoint me in my hope.” We remind God to be our hope, to be our life, now and for eternity. 1 Peter 1:3 sums all this up best, “Bless be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in His great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the res-urrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Vivat Jesus, Deacon Terry

An Early Start This Year
A new fraternal year is upon us. Congratulations
to the newly elected and appointed council lead-
ers. I’m sure you have a list of things that you want
to accomplish during the coming year. I’m eager to
help.
One of these goals is the attainment of the Star
Council award, the most prestigious award the Or-
der offers at the council level. I’m certainly commit-
ted to helping on the insurance side, but I’ll be glad to help on the mem-
bership side as well
If you know an eligible Catholic man who might be interested in joining the
Order (and who among us doesn’t), he’s probably just waiting to be
asked. I can help you, either by approaching him myself, or by “coaching”
you, transferring sales skills that you can use to recruit him and other pro-
spects. As always I’m at your service.
What would be helpful to all of us would be an early start on these those
goals, rather than waiting until May or June. Let’s get an early start on
award season this year.
Fraternally,
Willie Romero FICF

Joseph Arvizu It is with great sadness that the family of Joseph Cruz Arvizu,
known to his beloved grandchildren as “Tata” announced his
passing, after a brief illness, on June 30, 2019. At the age of 89
he has reunited with his beloved wife, Jessie Soria Arviso, and
son Joseph Cruz Arviso, jr. in the celebration of heavenly host,
with all the family members who have all gone before.
Joseph, will be lovingly remembered by his children, John
J.Arviso, Steven J Arviso, Anna DeLaCruz, Rosalinda Lemos,
Gloria Arviso. Joseph C. Arviso, jr. ( deceased). Manuel S. Soto, Ricardo P. Delgado.
Joseph will be most fondly be remembered by his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Joseph had the privilege of being close to his grandchildren and some would say that, he
was more like a Father for those who had not, had both parents in their lives.
Grandchildren, Manuel, Micheal, Audrey, Jacob, David, Jaime, Sarah, Israel, Abel, Christi-
ana, Rosemary, Rachel, Amber, Floralinda, Summer, Camille, Ava, Marisa.
Joe will also be forever remembered by his numerous great grandchildren and nieces,
nephews and extended family and dear friends.
Joe, was proud to serve his country in the United States Army. Joe was an humanitarian
through and through. Joe was an accomplished guitar player and loved his music, he was
a family man and always a gentleman. Joseph had a constant smile and loved people. He
was known for his sense of humor, and oftentimes, would crack up before the punchline!
Joseph worked for L.A. school district, until he retired. He worked for the Simi Valley court-
house for several years, following his retirement .
Joseph was a man of faith, and brought up his family to believe in the savior Jesus Christ,
his resurrection, and soon coming back, which is why we invite you to celebrate with us,
the graduation of our dear Father, Joseph Cruz “ Joe” Arvizu, into passing from life to “real”
life, into the arms of Jesus, for eternity.
Prayer service was held on:
Monday, July 8th, 2019 at the Reardon Mortuary in Simi Valley
Mass was held on Tuesday, July 9th, 2019 at St. Rose of Lima in Simi Valley
Moment of Faith
Growing in Faith
Having been involved with the RCIA team at SRL, I see candi-dates that want to deepen their faith, but are not sure how. We must keep in mind that as individuals we are all different and need to travel down different paths. What works for one person may not work for another, depending on where they are on their spiritual journey. The question is often asked in many different forms, usually the person is looking for an ex-ternal answer to what they should be “doing”: • What should I be doing to serve God? • What volunteer work can I do to help others? • Should I pray/read the Bible more? • How can I prove my love for God? • Should I be doing more Rosaries? • What is God calling me to do? • What is God’s will for me? All of these are great questions and should be asked, but it is often more important to re-flect on who we are first and ask more fundamental questions that can change our hearts: • What changes in my heart would lead me to serve better? • Who do I think God wants me to become? • How can I have more openness to God’s loving presence? The ultimate question might be: • What brings me closer to God? These questions are about transforming yourself, with a heart that is aligned closer to God’s will. Once your heart is softened, the “doing” questions will answer themselves and you cannot help but follow your path. How to serve God is a question that is older than Christianity and one of the mysteries that you will have to sort out for yourself. The apostles took different directions after receiving training for Jesus, based on who they were, the talents they had and the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Do not try to follow another person’s path, find your journey based on who you are and who you believe God wants you to become. Humbly yours, Clark Pentico
NMN
I want you to consider a means of regaining much of
your youthful abilities, stamina, ability to heal rapidly
and have the energy you had decades ago. This one
supplement will impact every organ system in your
body and improve the way everything works.
One enzyme facilitates thousands of reactions in your
body’s cells; it declines with age, and its decline is a
major mechanism of aging itself. New things are com-
ing to reality that will extend our productive and healthy
phase of living, but we need to live long enough to ben-
efit from them. In the meantime, boosting our cell’s lev-
els of this enzyme, called NAD+, is the biggest bang for
your buck for anything on the market to stretch your
health-span. The fastest way to do that is by supple-
menting with NMN.
I told you in a previous bulletin that I had taken part in a study/contest wherein I
took a gram of NMN (nicotinamide mononucleotide) per day (8 doses of 125 mg
sublingually about an hour apart). I stopped taking naps, had some amazing clear-
ing of the skin on the back of my hands, thought more clearly and was generally far
more energetic. Knees felt better, dropped body fat, saw increases in strength at
the gym. It was quite rewarding.
I couldn’t afford to keep taking it at that dose and have settled at ½ gram, 5 days out of 7, and seem to be holding onto the gains at that dose. So I recommend that you bite the bullet and go to https://alivebynature.com, buy the 240 tablet bottle of NMNs and see what it does for you. Use a discount code of FRANK10 for a 10% discount. Let me know about any results you experience, and I will pass them on to others, with your permission. To your greater fitness and health, in Christ, Frank

What a great day! The Lord blessed us with perfect weather. We had lots of vendors and cars.
Many thanks to all who help that day and in the days leading up to the event. Many thanks espe-
cially to all the directors and chairman that made this event possible.
I can’t list everyone’s names since it would fill the page. You make me proud to part of this council.
We are still paying off the bills, but it looks like we had a very profitable event again this year. We
should have the final Net profit in the next couple of months.

BINGO WORKERS
We are in need of more pull tab workers and we still need a caller and a call
back person. Training is free and it is not a hard job. For pull tabs you basically
sell lottery tickets to the players. If you are new to the council please call me so
I can get you on the Bingo Schedule. If you can’t work a specific weekend in Au-
gust or have a shift preference please email me at [email protected] . I pro-
duce the schedule around the 2nd Wednesday of the month before. So get me
any special requests for August by July 9th. Keep in mind cashiers and pull tab
workers now start at 4:00pm.
Also we have a had a lot of knights showing up to help without being scheduled. Though, we do appreciate
it, it leads to staffing problems as the workers that are scheduled are left to wonder why they are there. For
example, one week we had 7 pull tab workers, and the next week 2. It would help a lot and be much more
appreciated if you could work a scheduled shift once a month.
I have posted the bingo worker schedule online at www.kc5803.org.
