Is winter really six more weeks?

Brothers, It seems as if I just shared an article with you regarding the Christmas season and as we enter February, we are looking at the beginning of Lent ...40 days in preparation of Easter. It gives us time to reflect and open our minds and hearts to this most important time in the Liturgical Calendar. I am taking some time to reflect as well having going through the re-cent “Called and Gifted Workshop” at the parish. The program which

Membership Report...

NO ONE EVER ASKED!! We hear it regularly because it is an important message... A strong membership base and our regular efforts to attract new Knights is an essential and ongoing effort. Every member of our council is a vital part of helping Council 11353 grow so we can do the many things that our council does. YOU can make an immediate impact on the effectiveness of our council by getting just 1 or 2 catholic men involved as a member of the K of C. DON'T DELAY! OUR UPCOMING 1st DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION is on February 4th and another 1st Degree in April. We will be holding a recruiting weekend, and an information meeting for men who would like to join our Council You can make an impact by asking Catholic men who are in good standing with the church and at least 18 years old to join our Knights of Columbus Coun-cil! A strong membership base creates an immovable pillar that allows us to do the many wonderful things the Knights of Colum-bus do. DO YOU KNOW WHAT MOST MEN STATE AS THE REASON FOR NOT JOINING THE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS? NO ONE EVER ASKED!! Culture of Life Report… Tens of thousands of pro-life supporters braved a fierce winter storm, Jan. 22, to protest legalized abortion and to bear witness to the sanctity of every human life during the 43rd annual March for Life in Washington, D.C. While the number of marchers was lower than in previous years, the attendance remained impressive considering that forecasters had predicted a blizzard to bring snow totals of up to 30 inches in the nation’s capital. At this year’s march, which had the theme, “Pro-Life and Pro-Woman Go Hand-in-Hand,” many Knights car-ried council banners and flags, but these were just one indication of the Order’s presence. Scattered among the crowd were thousands of K of C “Defend Life” signs, which the D.C. State Council has distributed to marchers for several years. At the rally held on the grounds of the Washington Monument prior to the march, several speakers addressed the crowd, including pro-life businesswoman Carly Fiorina, journalist Sue Ellen Browder, NF L veteran Matt Birk, Focus on the Family President Jim Daly, and pro-life members of Congress, Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa and Rep. Chris Smith of New Jersey. Patrick Kelly, Kof C vice president for public policy and chairman of the board of the March for Life, began the rally by commending the marchers for traveling to the capital despite “a major storm barreling down on Washington, D.C.” He said each one has a key role to play in what he referred to as “the most important human rights movement of the 21st century.” He also reminded the marchers of the truth that “to be pro-life is to be pro-woman and to be pro-woman is to be pro-life.” Opponents of the pro-life movement, he said, “insist on dividing and bullying those who disagree with them by speaking of a fictional war on women. Our movement, the movement to protect human life, is dif-ferent. It is built by you, the grass roots.” “The March for Life has a simple message about pregnant moms and their babies. We love them both.” “Something is changing in America. And it is this: being pro-life and pro-woman is now the new normal.” March for Life President Jeanne Mancini said “Thank you for being here despite the weather forecast. The world may think that we’re a little bit crazy to be here on a day like today, but those of us standing here know that there is no sacrifice too great to fight the human rights abuse of abortion.”

Why Complete the Journey to Knighthood....

Before we can answer that question, we should ask ourselves why did I join the Knights of Columbus? Why this time? Why now? One thing we learned during the First Degree is members of the Knights of Co-lumbus are men of Faith. As men of Faith we believe everything happens for a reason. We didn't join to get rich, or to find a job, or to become an officer. Maybe it was a call to service, maybe we were influenced by a family member, or maybe it was just curiosity. One thing is certain we were drawn here as a part of God's plan for us. He started us on this journey and now we must decide how far we will travel on this jour-ney. In order to make an informed decision as to where this journey will take us we should learn all we can about the Order. The best way to gain that knowledge is by taking the 2nd & 3rd Degrees. Our Ceremo-nials are steeped with tradition, more importantly the lessons of the degrees also tell the story of the Knights of Columbus. The challenges we have faced the obstacles we have overcome. By completing the Journey to Knighthood you will learn much about yourself and more importantly you will come to the realization that there are many who believe as you, who share your values. You will grow stronger in your Faith. You will be drawn even closer to your family. You will obtain a greater respect for our Priests and a better understand of our Religion. Once you have completed the Third Degree you will realize it is okay to openly practice you Faith, it is okay to openly show your love for your family and fellow man. Once you become a Brother Knight you will discover there is much we can accomplish together, with God's help there is no obstacle to difficult to overcome. After you become a Brother Knight you can determine where this journey, God started you on, will bring you.
