Not because we are a better people, but prayerfully the standard by which we are living our lives is the standard of Christ, and they need to live as Him (I Peter 2:21). Our neighbors are even the ones who have obeyed the gospel, but perhaps were not reared in the church, or have otherwise never been exposed to the practice of New Testament Christianity and are in need of further training and instruction. If we recognize differences between others and ourselves, yet ridicule and not reach out, we have failed our duty. Who gets the most of your heart, mind, soul, and strength? If it is not God, you can rest assured you are not behaving as a neighbor to others. At the heart of being a neighbor is what lies at the center of your life. With all that we have do we love God? Can we say as Paul, “For me to live is Christ”? Is Christ, His church, and His lifestyle our standard of living? Are we willing to do for others, outside the body, and within, who are in need? Are we willing to be a neighbor, not a passer by? I hope you know which one you will choose to be.

“I Hope You Know”

Please remember these two questions: “Are you a

neighbor?” and “Who gets the most of your heart, soul, strength, and mind?” Among our number the “greatest

command” is easily quoted, but should we inspect the living of this command would we might find areas where

we can greatly improve. Unfortunately, we are guilty of becoming distracted from the needs of the lost around us,

with the satisfying of our own needs and wants.

The lesson of eternal life is the theme of Luke 10, which is

revealed in full love toward God and one’s neighbor through a parable of Jesus. “And who is my neighbor?”

was the question asked by one expert of the law to Jesus. Jesus shared what we commonly know as the Parable of

the Good Samaritan. A certain man fell prey to the vile actions of thieves, and they left him for dead. Both a

Priest and Levite passed by, noticing the man, but chose to avoid “getting involved.” Finally, a Samaritan offered

comfort to the man, and made provision for his needs at

an Inn. He even offered to repay the Inn Keeper for any expense he may incur for aiding the injured man. In the

end, Jesus asked which man was considered neighbor. The response was the one who showed mercy.

The need for mercy is universal among all men. Who is my

neighbor? Whoever I meet that stands in need on any level. I may meet a stranger, much like the man traveling

from Jerusalem, broken, beaten, and robbed. The world

through its fallen character, has broken many hearts, beaten numerous souls, and robbed countless lives. The

neighborly response is to reach out to those who have been wounded, and offer aid, and not pass by!

Neighbors include the ones who do not look like

us, who do not dress like us, who do not talk like us, and who do not act like us but need to. Not

because we are a better people, but prayerfully the standard by which we are living our lives is the

standard of Christ, and they need to live as Him (I Peter 2:21). Our neighbors are even the ones who

have obeyed the gospel, but perhaps were not reared in the church, or have otherwise never

been exposed to the practice of New Testament

Christianity and are in need of further training and instruction. If we recognize differences between

others and ourselves, yet ridicule and not reach out, we have failed our duty.

Who gets the most of your heart, mind, soul, and

strength? If it is not God, you can rest assured you are not behaving as a neighbor to others. At

the heart of being a neighbor is what lies at the

center of your life. With all that we have do we love God? Can we say as Paul, “For me to live is

Christ”? Is Christ, His church, and His lifestyle our standard of living? Are we willing to do for others,

outside the body, and within, who are in need? Are we willing to be a neighbor, not a passer by? I

hope you know which one you will choose to be.
