Call to Worship INDESCRIBABLE Verse 1 From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea, Creation's revealing Your majesty. From the colors of Fall to the fragrance of Spring, Ev'ry creature unique in the song that it sings. All exclaiming: Chorus 1 Indescribable, uncontainable; You placed the stars in the sky, And You know them by name. You are amazing, God; All powerful, untamable; Awestruck, we fall to our knees As we humbly proclaim You are amazing, God. Verse 2 Who has told ev'ry lightning bolt where it should go, Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow? Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light, Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night? None can fathom. [Chorus 1] Chorus 2 Indescribable, uncontainable; You placed the stars in the sky, And You know them by name. You are amazing, God; Incomp’rable, unchangeable. You see the depths of my heart, And You love me the same.

Processional COME, YE THANKFUL PEOPLE, COME

Come, ye thankful people, come,

Raise the song of harvest-home;

All is safely gathered in,

Ere the winter storms begin.

God, our Maker, doth provide

For our wants to be supplied;

Come to God's own temple, come,

Raise the song of harvest home.

All the world is God's own field,

Fruit as praise to God we yield;

Wheat and tares together sown,

Are to joy or sorrow grown:

First the blade and then the ear,

Then the full corn shall appear,

Lord of harvest, grant that we

wholesome grain and pure may be.

For the Lord our God shall come,

And shall take the harvest home;

From the field shall in that day

All offenses purge away,

Giving angels charge at last

In the fire the tares to cast;

But the fruitful ears to store

In the garner evermore.

Even so, Lord, quickly come,

Bring Thy final harvest home,

Gather Thou Thy people in,

Free from sorrow, free from sin.

There, forever purified,

In Thy presence to abide;

Come, with all Thine angels, come

Raise the glorious harvest-home.

Opening Acclamation

Celebrant. Blessed be God, the Father, the Son,

and the Holy Spirit..

People. And blessed be his kingdom, now and

forever. Amen.

Celebrant. The Lord be with you.

People. And with your spirit.

Celebrant. Let us pray.

The Collect for Purity

Praying together

ALMIGHTY God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and

from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by

the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you,

and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

The Summary of the Law

Jesus said: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and

with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first

commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your

neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the

Law and the Prophets.

The Gloria in Excelsis (Tune: Scottish Gloria)

Glory be to God on High

And on earth peace – good will to men.

We praise thee, we bless thee, we worship thee.

We glorify thee, we give thanks to thee

For thy great glory.

O Lord God, heavenly king,

God the father almighty:

O Lord, the only begotten son, Jesus Christ,

O Lord God, lamb of God, son of the father:

That takest away the sins of the world,

Have mercy upon us.

Thou that takest away the sins of the world,

Receive our prayer.

Thou that sittest at the right hand of God the Father

Have mercy upon us.

For thou, only, art holy. Thou, only, art the Lord.

Thou only, O Christ, with the Holy Ghost,

Art most high in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Celebrant. Let us pray.

The Collect for the Persecuted Church

Praying together

O LORD God, whose Son Jesus Christ suffered and died for us and

in His resurrection restores life and peace to all creation; O Lord

God, our Redeemer, Defender, Protector, and Avenger, we pray for

Your people who are victims of violence and hatred and are op-

pressed and injured by their fellow humans. Give strength and en-

couragement to them by Your Holy Spirit. Look upon them and

help us to honor those who are suffering or have died in Your ser-

vice. Comfort their families and give them courage. Thwart the op-

pressors and call them to repentance, but if they will not repent, we

commit them to Your justice. All this we pray through the same,

Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect for the 24th Sunday after Pentecost

O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might de-

stroy the works of the devil and make us children of God and heirs

of eternal life: Grant that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves

as he is pure; that, when he comes again with power and great

glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom;

where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for

The Children's Sermon

The Sermon

Nicene Creed

Let us confess our faith in the words of the Nicene Creed:

Celebrant and People

WE believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven

and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.

WE believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally

begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God

from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father;

through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation, he

came down from heaven and was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and

the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified

under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the

third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he as-

cended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his

kingdom will have no end.

WE believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who pro-

ceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the

Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the proph-

ets.

WE believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowl-

edge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resur-

rection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 25

Watch over your children, O Lord, as their days increase; bless and

guide them wherever they may be, keeping them unspotted from

the world. Strengthen them when they stand; comfort them when

discouraged or sorrowful; raise them up if they fall; and in their

hearts may your peace which passes understanding abide all the

days of their lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

OUR PRAYERS

Prayer for the Sick

O Lord, who feels the pain of the world, and looks upon all

sick and suffering persons with pity and mercy, enfolding

them with thy love; grant that in the midst of pain or suffer-

ing they may find thy presence; to doctors and nurses grant

tender hearts and healing hands; and give health again in

11

The Deacon and People kneel as able and pray

MOST merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in

thought, word and deed, by what we have done, and by what we

have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we

have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and

we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have

mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and

walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Bishop or Priest stands and says

ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who in his great mercy has

promised forgiveness of sins to all those who sincerely repent and

with true faith turn to him, have mercy upon you, †pardon and de-

liver you from all your sins, confirm and strengthen you in all good-

ness, and bring you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our

Lord. Amen

The Peace

Celebrant. The Peace of the Lord be always with you.

People. And with your spirit.

Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the name

of the Lord.

Celebrant. Let us remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ

and how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive.

The Offertory TAKE MY LIFE, AND LET IT BE Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee.

Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King. Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee.

Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect, and use every power as Thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it Thine; it shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is Thine own; it shall be Thy royal throne.

Take my love, my Lord, I pour at Thy feet its treasure store. Take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for Thee. Words by: Frances Ridley Havergal, 1873. Public Domain

The People stand while the offerings are presented.

The Presentation Hymn

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow,

Praise Him, all creatures here below!

Alleluia! Alleluia!

Praise Him above, ye heav'nly host,

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.

The Celebrant may pray the following prayer

YOURS, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and

the victory, and the majesty: for everything in heaven and on earth

is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as

Head above all.

Praying together

All things come from you, O Lord, and of your own have we given

you. Amen. (1 Chronicles 29:11, 14)

Then the Celebrant will say,

OUR fellow Christians of other branches of Christ’s Church, who

have been Baptized in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and

of the Holy Spirit, are affectionately invited to the Lord’s Table.

THE peace of God which passes all understanding keep your hearts

and minds in the knowledge and love of God, and of his Son Jesus

Christ our Lord; and the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the

Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you, and remain with you al-

The Recessional O CHURCH ARISE

O church arise and put your armour on

Hear the call of Christ our Captain

For now the weak can say that they are strong

In the strength that God has given

With shield of faith and belt of truth

We'll stand against the devil's lies

An army bold whose battle cry is Love

Reaching out to those in darkness

Our call to war to love the captive soul

But to rage against the captor

And with the sword that makes the wounded whole

We will fight with faith and valour

When faced with trials on every side

We know the outcome is secure

And Christ will have the prize for which He died

An inheritance of nations

Come see the cross where love and mercy meet

As the Son of God is stricken

Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet

For the Conqueror has risen

And as the stone is rolled away

And Christ emerges from the grave

This victory march continues till the day

Every eye and heart shall see Him

So Spirit come put strength in every stride

Give grace for every hurdle

That we may run with faith to win the prize

The Sursum Corda (Lift Up Your Hearts)

Celebrant. Lift up your hearts.

People. We lift them to the Lord.

Celebrant. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

People. It is just and right so to do.

IT is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to

give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

Jot that Thought

Celebrant. Let us pray

Prayer of Consecration

ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, in your tender mercy, you

gave your only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the cross for

our redemption. He offered himself and made, once for all time, a

perfect and sufficient sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He

instituted this remembrance of his passion and death, which he

commanded us to continue until he comes again. So now, Father,

we ask you to bless and sanctify, with your Word and Holy

Spirit, these gifts of bread and wine that we may partake of his most

blessed Body and Blood.

ON the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took

bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to

his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for

you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

AFTER supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks,

he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my

Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many,

for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in re-

membrance of me.” THEREFORE we proclaim the mystery of faith:

Celebrant and People praying together

Christ has died.

Christ is risen.

Christ will come again.

The Celebrant continues

LORD and heavenly Father, with these holy gifts we celebrate the

memorial instituted by your beloved Son, remembering his passion

and death, his resurrection and ascension, and his promise to

come again. Grant that by his merits and death, and through faith

in his Blood, we and your whole Church may receive forgiveness

of our sins and all other benefits of his passion, making us one

body with him that he may dwell in us, and we in him. And here

The Post Communion Prayer

Let us pray.

Celebrant and People praying together

HEAVENLY Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual

food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Sav-

ior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that

we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of

your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out into the

world to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve

you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and

to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

Communion Songs DRAW NIGH AND TAKE

Draw nigh and take the Body of the Lord,

and drink the holy Blood for you outpoured.

Saved by that Body and that holy Blood,

with souls refreshed, we render thanks to God.

Salvation's giver, Christ, the Only Son,

by his dear cross and blood the vict'ry won.

Offered was he for greatest and for least,

himself the Victim, and himself the Priest.

Approach ye then with faithful hearts sincere,

and take the pledges of salvation here.

He that his saints in this world rules and shields

to all believers life eternal yields;

With heav'nly bread he makes the hungry whole,

gives living waters to the thirsting soul.

we offer to you, O Lord, our selves, our souls and bodies, to be a

living sacrifice, through Jesus Christ our Lord. BY him and with him

and in him,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty

Father, now and forever. Amen.

The Prayer of Humble Access

Celebrant and People praying together

WE do not presume to come to this your table, merciful Lord, trust-

ing in our own righteousness, but in your abundant and great mer-

cies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under

your table. But you are the same Lord, who always delights in

showing mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the

flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ and to drink his blood, that our

sinful bodies may be made clean by his body, and our souls

washed through his most precious blood, and that we may ever-

more dwell in him, and he in us. Amen.

The Ministration of Communion

Celebrant. The gifts of God for the People of God. [Take them in

remembrance that Christ died for you and feed on him in your

hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.]
