“Ice Age Humans in North America” ANTY-494

This course explores one of the last great questions in archaeology, the broad and often contentious topic of the ancient colonization of the western hemisphere (North and South America). The course provides an in-depth look at the relevant archaeological record as well as an introduction to the researchers who have contributed significantly to our historical and current understandings of the issue. We will explore new discoveries and advances in analytical techniques that are refining long-held hypotheses and sparking new lines of inquiry. The course assumes a basic knowledge of archeological method and theory as might be obtained in an “Introduction to Archeology” course. Your professor, Dr. Craig M. Lee, received his B.A. from Montana State University, M.A. from University of Wyoming, and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado. He has conducted extensive fieldwork at Ice Age sites ranging from Texas to Alaska.
