Are You Using Compass Pay & Receiving Compass Notifications?
Each week the Office sends notifications to Parents and Staff through Compass. During Term 2 with all most all students
learning from home it is crucial that parents keep up to date with school notifications via Compass or keep updated on the school
website. All Home Learning communications are being posted to the home page of the school website.
If you do not have the Compass app and notifications set up correctly on your phone you could be missing out on important
updates.
Each family has a unique family code to log in to Compass.
If you need assistance logging in to Compass please contact Jacquie or Kate in the Office on 5229 9643.

Mano has Reopened for Business!
With balloons on designated entry gates and Pharrell Williams singing his ‘Happy’ song over the PA system, our Preps, Grade 1s and Grade 2s have returned to school!
Teachers have been really, really looking forward to seeing their students return to face to face teaching and what a positive start we have had on Tuesday 26th May.
Students have been directed to practice some social distancing measures as are practical in a primary school setting. Hand sanitiser is readily available throughout the school, soap in all toilets is checked daily and refilled as needed and slight modifications to entry and exiting from buildings and classrooms is occurring. The additional Department of Education & Training (DET) funding for cleaning has been most welcomed and we now have a cleaner on site throughout the school day – 9am to 3:30pm. High surface areas are being regularly wiped, playgrounds wiped down, toilets cleaned and table tops as is possible, wiped throughout the school day.
On Monday 25th May our teachers used this DET allocated Pupil Free Day, to prepare for the transition from remote learning back to face to face teaching.
Parents and carers have been most respectful of implementing the ‘Stop, Drop and Go’ message, as they have ‘handed over’ their children to classroom teachers at the designated entry gates (Preps – Narmbool St, Grade 1s – Strachan Ave and Grade 2s – Manifold St). This has served us well as we have aimed to avoid excessive congestion and to reduce significantly adult presence on the school site, as we have been directed to do by DET. Plans to continue with designated entry and exit gates will continue over coming weeks. Upon their return we will ask Middles to enter and leave via the gate off Purrumbete Avenue (northern end of school property) and our Senior students to enter and leave via the gate off Purrumbete which leads directly into Manifold Street (southern end).
Classrooms have been buzzing this week, with children sharing proudly how their families have embraced home learning and what they have been looking forward to upon their return to school – the latter being mostly, to see and play with their school friends!
If you borrowed a school iPad to support remote learning and have now finished with it, can you please return this to the General Office.
Our Grade 3-6s continue remote learning and will commence back at Mano on Tuesday 9th June (after the Monday 8th June Queen’s birthday long weekend).
Approximately 20 of our Grade 3-6s are currently being supervised onsite, as they have no daily option for adult care at home – if this applies to you, please contact the school for approval of this via the DET required permission form.
Mid-year Student Reports
Our mid-year student reports will look a little different this year – they will contain a component which addresses Term 1 achievements and participation and also one for Term 2. They will not contain progression point dots, which have reflected achievement against Victorian curriculum standards (which shares with parents, teacher judgements as reflecting student
achievements below, at or above expected grade level standards). We anticipate that end of year Reports will do this.
For this round of reports, they will be available to families online via Compass during the last week of Term 2. Hard copies will be available upon request with the Office.
We are trying a ‘paperless round’ of Reports given the different version being produced after such an extended period of remote learning and also being environmentally conscious. Subject to the success or otherwise of this trial, end of year reports (December) will be possibly in paper copy for all (and available online via Compass as they have been for a few years now) or again paperless. Your feedback will be sought to inform future planning.

Bellarine Uniforms Update
Our retail stores will be open from 10am – 5pm Monday – Friday and 9am -12pm on Saturday mornings. The continued safety of our staff and customers is of paramount importance and physical distancing measures will be in place. Our retail staff will be working before and after trading hours to ensure extensive daily cleaning is conducted instore. Any uniform garments which are unpackaged, tried on and then not taken, will be separated out form stock and not handled for 24 hours as an additional precaution against COVID-19. We do not have fitting ranges which are used for ‘try on’ purposes.
As you can appreciate, we are required to limit the total number of people instore which includes staff and customers. Winter back to school is a busy time so we are still offering phone orders for delivery to home if families do not wish to come into the store. Families can either email their orders to [email protected] or phone the store on 5221 9199.
We appreciate your support and thank the school community for their patience during this challenging time. Our staff continue to be committed in providing the best possible customer service during these extra ordinary times.

MR HAMBROOK AND MR GRANT
TRICK SHOTS GALORE
Trick shots are successful, highly improbable or challenging tasks that require a great deal of
athletic finesse or luck. Trick shots are practiced in a wide range of conventional sports,
including pool, frisbee, football, soccer and basketball, as well as lesser-known games based
on physical activities.
At home there are many different things and items you can use to shoot or create a fun and
interesting ‘trick shot’. You can use socks, scrunched up paper, cushions or sports
equipment. You might shoot them into a bin, ring, goal, cup, drawers or even a box!
Physical movement during ‘Remote Learning’ is so important in so many ways for families, parents and children. Walking or stretching, will help ease muscle strain, relieve mental tension and improve blood circulation and muscle activity. Regular physical activity can also help to give the day a routine and be a way of staying mentally sharp and on task. It might only be for 10 minutes each day. They can be activities around the home and garden, it doesn’t have to be exercise or sport – play, dance, gardening, and even house cleaning and carrying heavy objects is all part of being physically active.
Have a go at what you can do
and load it onto your p.e.
classroom see-saw for
mr Hambrook and mr grant.
Welcome to Dream Country Last week The Middles finished up their reading of Roald Dahl’s ‘The BFG’. We spent the week completing a range of follow up
activities inspired by the story. One of those activities required the students to write their own dream, maybe it was a Trogglehumper (a nightmare) or a Phizzwizzared (a good dream), then they used materials they had at home to create a
dream jar to hold their special dream. Yet again The Middles lived up to their ‘Marvellous Middles’ title and produced some spectacular work.

Take 5 with the Seniors
It’s official. The biggest thing that Senior students (and teachers!) are missing in Remote Learning is the chance to just have a good old fashioned chat! To combat that, we’re jumping on the opportunity of a little space in the newsletter, to ‘take 5’ and catch up. This week, we’re hearing from Senior B.
Teacher Name - Miss Bruce
Favourite thing about working from home?
Getting to have my big, cuddly dog Bear with me all day. Toughest thing about working from home?
Missing all of the wonderful students from SB with their smiles and jokes. Also, sitting at a computer all day - this was no fun at all, I even had to get reading glasses! What are you grateful for?
Having a great team around me, my new coffee machine and my wonderful fiance. What’s your hot tip?
Brain breaks work. The quality of my work was always so much better if I stopped every couple of hours to walk around the block, rather than rushing through my extra long list of things to do. What are you looking forward to after restrictions end?
Marrying my wonderful fiance and going on a honeymoon. Unfortunately we didn’t quite make it down the aisle. Not to worry, it will be even better come January.
Student Name - Sasha Ivanitskiy
Favourite thing about working from home?
I like that there has been someone around that can help me with my questions and problems whilst I work. I also enjoyed going for a bike ride on my lunch break most days. Toughest thing about working from home?
My little brother distracts me when he finishes his schoolwork before I do. What are you grateful for?
I’m grateful for having my stepmum, dad or uncle always there to help me with schoolwork if I need it. What’s your hot tip?
Work out a schedule and try to stick to it. I also found out that taking notes is helpful too. What are you looking forward to after restrictions end?
Going back to school, seeing my friends and family that don’t live in Geelong, and hopefully going on a vacation by plane!
The classroom feels very lonely without all the wonderful students in it!
