The National Safety Week

is observed every year fromMarch 4-11 and has assumed the

importance of a major national

campaign. It is widely celebrated

to create consciousness and

renew commitment to health,

safety and environment. This day

also accentuates the signicance

of safety in all spheres of life, so

as to avert mishap and accident

resulting out of neglect or lack

of awareness. At Amtek, safetyhas always been at the core of

our business.

In view of the rising trend of

industrial accidents in the country,

the Labour Minister’s Conferencein its 22nd session in 1962

recommended that “a conference

on safety in factories should be

convened and the question of

setting up the National Safety

Council for conducting a campaign

on accident prevention should

be considered.”

The recommendation of the

conference was approved by the24th session of the standing Labour

Committee, which met on February

13-14, 1966 at New Delhi under the

chairmanship of Late Shri Jagjivan

Ram (at that time he was the

Union Minister), and the proposalconcerning the constitution of the

National Safety Council (NSC)

was set up on March 4, 1966 by

the Ministry.

Subsequently, it was decided that

March 4, should be commemorated

as the National Safety Day every

year in the form of national

awareness campaign. Since

1972, the National Safety Day iscelebrated every year to reiterate

the importance of safety and to

create an awareness campaign

throughout the country.

TIME OUT

3, L.S.C. Pamposh Enclave,

Greater Kailash-I

New Delhi – 110048, India

A group of alumni who were highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old

university lecturer.

The conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee

and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain looking and some expensive and

exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee.

When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said, “If you noticed, all the nice

looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal

for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress”.

What all of you really wanted was the coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better

cups and are eyeing each other’s cups.”

“Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools

to hold and contain life, but the quality of life doesn’t change.”

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee in it.

“So folks, don’t let the cups drive you... Enjoy the coffee instead.”

Enjoy the Coffee
