Before we begin…

• A little soap box about prompting

• For once, we are not going to belabor the point. We will use a video instead……..

• Please pay close attention and see if you can pick out any potential problems…

Maybe no soapbox is necessary.

Why do we take data anyway??

What do we have to do to take the right data?

• Define what you’re taking data on:– behavior, academic, social

• Determine the method• Pick a data sheet• Establish baseline• In some instances it will be

necessary to compare to peers

How to appropriately define a behavior

What’s a baseline??

Data Collection Methods

• Event/Frequency Recording• Duration Recording• Latency Recording• ABC Recording• Time Sampling• Permanent Product Recording

Event/Frequency Recording

• When to use Event/Frequency Recording

• Strengths with Event/Frequency Recording

• Weaknesses with Event/Frequency Recording

Duration Recording

• When to use Duration Recording• Strengths with Duration Recording• Weakness with Duration Recording

Latency Recording

• When to use Latency Recording• Strengths with Latency Recording• Weakness with Latency Recording

ABC Recording

• A= Antecedent (what occurs before the behavior)

• B= Behavior

• C= consequence (anything that changes in a behavior or in the physical environment following the behavior – can be positive or negative)

Time Sampling

• When to use Time Sampling• Strengths with Time Sampling• Weakness with Time Sampling

Permanent Product Recording

• When to use Permanent Product Recording

• Strengths of Permanent Product Recording

• Weakness of Permanent Product Recording

I have 926 data sheets! Which one do I use???

It doesn’t have to be painful…
