all desktop computing adoption.

• Japan example: In 2000, Telecom dominates over Mobile Internet (only 3% Market Value), but by 2009 Mobile Internet rose to 22&

iPhone

• Raised the bar for mobile technology

– Ease of use & quality

– Wi-Fi

– 2000K apps & 2B+ downloads

• Increasingly about data, not voice (calling plans, etc.)

– iPhone is leader in mobile devices in terms of data

Important Developments

• In a year and a half (May ‘08 – Dec. ‘09) there were rapid developments/announcements.

• Consumers now expect to “get what they want when they want it, from the palm of their hand…”

– Twitter, Skype, Foursquare, Facebook

• Skype: VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol) makes talking on the phone free– With 521mm+ users, it would be the largest

carrier in the world.

• Twitter: On-the-go tracking of thoughts; never stop communicating with someone– Monetizing with ads resembling tweets

• Foursquare: Taking Twitter a step further; is it “Big Brother”-esque?

Facebook

• The giant of the new mobile communication platforms; leading social networking platform in the world.

• “In-the-clouds” content: shift from mainframe computing to client-server based…a “digital locker”

• Facebook has it all: Ubiquitous Computing
