Prayer for the week
JONAH 2:2–9

Sunday 24th Senior Chapel School Uniform 10am
Welcome back to the summer term and I hope that everyone had an enjoyable Easter break. I know thatwe had a different and slightly extended Easter holiday pattern to other schools as a result of ourboarding operation and that this will have created some challenges for parents, particularly for thosewith younger children.

News and Events
I hope this has not been too disruptive and I do know that staff have appreciated the opportunity that thelonger holiday gave them this year especially those who were involved in trips and visitsincluding: Year 12 Geography trip to St Ives organised by Mr Robertson, supported by Mrs Apsa, MrCottam, Mrs Howard and Miss Barton with 47 students; French Exchange trip organised by Mrs Stearn, supported by Miss Skendraoui and Miss Cripps with 32 students; Gold Duke of Edinburgh AwardExpedition Practise organised by Mr Cullis supported by Kempston staff with 19 students; Rugby andNetball tour to Paris organised by Mrs Dwyer and Mr Harris supported by Mr Rees, Miss Wilkinson, Miss Wood, Miss Kyriacou and Mr MacIntosh with 76 students; Year 11 Battlefields trip organised byMr Storrie and supported by Mr Cousins, Miss Cripps and Miss Sayers with 35 students; CERN Physicstrip organised by Miss Hicks and supported by Mr Bensley and Mr Lumsden with 24 students. I wouldlike to thank all the staff involved and the students for their exemplary behaviour on all the trips.
On Tuesday we had our annual Sex and Relationships Information Evening to Year 7 parents, whichcoincided with the announcement that MPs had initiated an enquiry into sexual harassment in schools, indicating how important this subject is. Unfortunately, possibly due to being so early in the term, theturnout was low and therefore Mr Davies, Head of PSHE has decided to repeat the presentation forparents of Year 7 pupils and parents of pupils who were new to the school in Year 8 and 9. There aremore details about this later in the newsletter.
On Thursday we had our Year 10 Parents evening which was very well attended. I hope parents andpupils found this a positive and supportive opportunity to discuss their progress. I would like to thankthe PSA for once again providing refreshments throughout the evening.
Friday was one of the highlights of the year, the Big Curry Day in support of the Soldiers' Charity, TheArmy Benevolent Fund and Elizabeth's Legacy of Hope. The curry lunch was as fantastic as always, forwhich I would like to thank Julie and everyone in the catering team. During the day we also had servingmembers of the Royal Marines, 2 Anglian and Grenadier Guard in school engaging with the students ina range of activities, which might have been a bit of a shock for the sixth form students who enjoyed theMarine fitness program instead of their usual badminton session. The soldiers were great at interactingwith the students and it was a pleasure having them at St George's.
Tomorrow is of course the Great Curry Run with participants running (and in my case cycling) 5, 10 or15km. The run starts at 9am so even if you are not participating, you are more than welcome to comealong to spectate and cheer runners along the route.
It has been a great week and I am really looking forward to the run tomorrow but for now I will sign off toenjoy the rest of my 27th anniversary with Mrs McGovern.
Have a great weekend.
