Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly Colossians 3:16 NET

What an amazing statement to consider! How might we let the word of Christ dwell inside of us and be con-sumed by its richness. To really understand this seemingly simple statement we need to break it down and look at a few words individually and understand them from the context of the Greek. "The word of Christ refers to the revelation He brought into the world, which is Scripture. Peace and thankfulness, as well as unity, love, and all the required virtues, flow from a mind controlled by Scripture."[1] "Dwell is from enoikeoœ and means “to live in,” or “to be at home.” Paul calls upon believers to let the Word take up residence and be at home in their lives."[2]Finally "Richly (Plousioœs) could also be translated “abundantly or extravagantly rich.” The truths of Scrip-ture should permeate every aspect of the believer’s life and govern every thought, word, and deed."[3]

Being the kind of people that let the word of God dwell inside of us richly will not happen by accident. We need to hear the word of God if we expect it to richly dwell in our lives. Look at what Jesus says in Mark 4..

Mark 4:18–20 NET 18 Others are the ones sown among thorns: They are those who hear the word, 19 but worldly cares, the seductiveness of wealth, and the desire for other things come in and choke the word, and it produces nothing. 20 But these are the ones sown on good soil: They hear the word and receive it and bear fruit, one thirty times as much, one sixty, and one a hundred.”

This text is interesting because it shows us that it is not enough to just hear the word. The first group heard the word, but it was not dwelling in them richly. The cares of the world and seductiveness of wealth and their desire for other things choked out the word in their lives. As a result even after hearing the word nothing was pro-duced.The next group heard the word and it dwelled in them richly and as a result they were able to bear much fruit. Hearing the word can come in many ways Radio, TV, going to church making church a priority in your family's life. But if you don’t apply it and let it dwell inside of you, nothing will happen we must hear it and apply it.

Next we must Handle the word. Paul wrote these words to Timothy…2 Timothy 2:15 ESV Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. You need to pick up the word of God and handle it with your hands. You need to dwell on it and handle it in your mind. You need to challenge yourself to consider the difficult and even troubling passages of scripture. You need to handle it at work, school, and in the community by sharing it with others. The more you hear it and the more you handle it the deeper inside of you it will penetrate.

Finally you need to…. Hide it. Now by hide it I am not saying you keep it a secret but instead you memorize it, and hide it in your heart Psalms 119 says this…Psalms 119:11 NLT-SE I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you. How familiar are you with God’s word? Is Sunday the only day you hear it, and handle it? If so I doubt there is much of it hidden away in your heart.

When we hear, handle, and hide God's word on a daily basis we will soon discover that it has indeed taken root and found a place to richly dwell. It will then bless you in amazing ways moment by moment as you walk with Christ, and it will bless the world that surrounds you as well. Let the word of Christ richly dwell inside of you!

Work continues on the Cowboy Fellowship Covered

Facility. We are now beginning Phase ll of the project. This

will consist of having permanent bleachers built.

There are several on going events booked in the arena

for up coming weeks. The Arena Ministry is sponsoring an

Adult Riding Group and Barrel Racing Practice.

Several members of CF have taken advantage of the fa-

cility for roping practice.

We are grateful for those who continue to faithfully

support this project with your financial gifts. We have

almost met our goal. At last count we only need

$25,827.50 to be able to start construction on the

bleachers.

The life center is doing

well; all the children

have started school.

The center has moved

into a new home which

they were able to raise

the money to buy. As a

requirement the govern-

ment is making them

build a medical clinic

on site. It is coming

along nicely.

At this time Karen, the

Director, is looking for

God Parents for the

children. There are 5

special days annually

that the God Parent would help with, Birthday, Graduation (when the

time comes), Day of Kings (January 6th), Day of children (April 30th),

and Christmas.

Not only will you be able to help with these days which on a regular

year are forgotten you will also be able to have a relationship with

them via email. These children are such a blessing and need all the

love and encouragement we can give them.

If you would like to be a part of one child’s life email Karen at

[email protected] put God-Parent in the subject line and she

will get back to you with all the details.
