I’d like to take this opportunity to thank the O’Fallon Chamber members who supported the 30th Annual Firecracker Run

through their time on the committee, as a volunteer or as a sponsor. This was definitely the best event yet! Six months of planning, 139 volunteers, 50+ sponsors and 1940 participants equated to over $46,000 in net profit.

Many times while we are fundraising for the Chamber we are asked where the money is going. Well, simply put, it’s going to our operating budget. Each year the O’Fallon Chamber looks for new programs and

services to implement that we believe will be beneficial to our members and to the community. Successful events like the Firecracker Run ensure that our Chamber can continue to provide those services and features without raising your membership dues to rates that aren’t affordable to our smallest businesses. Basically, these events make sure that all businesses, of every size and budget, can afford the benefits of the O’Fallon Chamber; a Chamber that works continually to see those businesses succeed.

So, thank you to the Firecracker committee and all of the event committees that give their time, talent and treasure to make these events successful and our Chamber strong!

Until next month,Jeff Arneson2014 Chairman of the Board

he City of O’Fallon has been rated one of the best places in Missouri in which to own a home. A recent study conducted by NerdWallet, a consumer literacy/personal

finance website, considered “availability, affordability and growth” in assessing O’Fallon. The organization ranked the City as 5th in the state for homeownership. This is the second time that the website has lauded O’Fallon. Earlier this year, O’Fallon made NerdWallet’s list of best cities for Missouri job seekers, with employers that include CitiMortgage and MasterCard’s St. Louis Operations Center. “For a national organization to once again put our City in the spotlight is not only an honor, it helps residents and potential homeowners to see what O’Fallon has to offer in terms of true livability,” said O’Fallon’s Mayor, Bill Hennessy. “Families come first in our community, and O’Fallon’s latest ranking as one of the top cities in our

T state for homeownership as well as for job seekers is extremely important.” To come up with homeownership rankings, NerdWallet compared 52 communities with populations of more than 15,000. Using U.S. Census data and information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the website looked at homeownership rates, select monthly homeowner costs, monthly household income and population growth. The study found that the O’Fallon area has a homeownership rate of 82.9%, with median monthly homeownership costs of $1,596. NerdWallet aims to help consumers make better financial decisions by providing information on products such as CD rates, checking accounts, credit cards and more. The website has been featured in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and Reuters. For more information, visit nerdwallet.com/cities.

nstitute for Organization Management, the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce

Foundation, is pleased to announce that Erin Williams, President & CEO, of the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce, has recently completed her second year at Institute for Organization Management, a four-year nonprofit leadership training program at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. “Institute graduates are recognized across the country as leaders in their industries and organizations,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s vice president of Institute for Organization

Management. “These individuals have the knowledge, skills, and dedication necessary to achieve professional and organizational success in the dynamic association and chamber industries.” Since its commencement in 1921, the Institute program has been educating tens of thousands of association, chamber, and other nonprofit leaders on how to build stronger organizations, better serve their members and become strong business advocates. Institute’s curriculum consists of four weeklong sessions at five different university locations throughout the country. Through a combination of required courses and electives in areas such

as leadership, advocacy, marketing, finance, and membership, Institute participants are able to enhance their own organizational management skills and add new fuel to their organizations, making them run more efficiently and effectively. Institute for Organization Management is the professional development program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. It is the premier nonprofit professional development program for association and chamber professionals, fostering individual growth through interactive learning and networking opportunities. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation (USCCF) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit affiliate of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce dedicated to strengthening America’s long-term competitiveness by addressing developments that affect our nation, our economy, and the global business environment.

ell us about yourself:I was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri. In March of 2003, I married

my wife – Sarah. Sarah and I have three children; Ella (8), Jack (7), and Alle (5). I graduated with a degree in Church Ministries from Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri. I was a student pastor for 13 years before moving to O’Fallon. As a youth and associate pastor, I annually educated nearly 2,000 students on ways to make healthy relationship decisions as an abstinence educator for the public school system. In addition, I directed a youth camp averaging over 800 students in attendance, and in June of 2010, I started Camp Hope – a camp for homeless and at risk youth. I have loved the Saint Louis area from a young age, and have always dreamed of calling Saint Louis my home.

Tell us about your organization:Grace River Church is a new church in O’Fallon that will begin meeting at John Weldon Elementary School this fall. Grace River has been hosting free movie nights throughout the summer at John Weldon. The final movie night of the summer will be held on Saturday, August 16th at

John Weldon Elementary School at 7:00p.m, where we will be showing Rio 2. In the fall, Grace River will begin hosting preview services once a month, and will begin meeting weekly on January 11th, 2015.

Why a new Church? Don’t we have enough Churches in this area? Less than 15 percent of Saint Charles County claims to attend church regularly. Statistics reflect that the best way to connect people who currently do not regularly attend a church is to simply start a new one. I am passionate about establishing a church that is geared towards welcoming those without a church background, because I, myself, was not raised with church as a priority in my life.

What is the mission/vision of your organization?Grace River Church is a church for people no matter what their background is. Whether you love the church, or have never been to church before, Grace River is the place for you. Grace River Church prides itself on the fact that we embrace the God-given strengths and weaknesses of all individuals and seek ways to better serve the community of which we are a

memBer spotliGhtChriS hiGhfiLL

T part. The church is connected to Converge MidAmerica – a regional church planting organization. The mission of Grace River Church is to love people well, to lead them in a growing relationship with God, and to launch them out to change the world. Grace River Church places its values in areas such as community, generosity, authenticity, service, and excellence.

Why would you recommend the O’Fallon Chamber? The Chamber has been the best way to network and learn the needs of the community. Grace River Church is a proud member of the Chamber and loves working hand in hand with other community organizations.

AwArdConTinued from Coverdesigned by the O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce Communications Director, Sara Henderson, who also sells the advertising and oversees the distribution of 10,000 copies of the publication. “We are so proud to receive this award. Sara is an extremely talented designer who works tirelessly on this publication; this award is a wonderful way to recognize her work,” said Erin Williams, O’Fallon Chamber President/CEO. The annual ACE competition recognizes outstanding communications efforts by chambers of commerce across the country. This year’s competition drew 163 entries in four categories: 1. Advertising and Marketing, including print, web, TV, radio and outdoor ad projects, membership brochures and promotions for events, awards and products 2. Campaigns, usually a complex, multi-media promotion for advocacy, a local event, economic development, chamber image enhancement, a membership drive, or other activities. 3. Electronic, including blogs, mobile apps, mobile

sites, social media campaigns, videos, e-newsletters and websites. 4. Publications, including annual reports, community guides, directories, magazines and newsletters. Entries were divided into two classes based on budget size, over $1 Million in revenue and under $1 Million in revenue, and were judged by industry professionals. The O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce has an annual budget of $235,000. Celebrating its 30th year, the ACE program continues to be the vehicle for the chamber community to highlight outstanding initiatives by honoring best practices in chamber communications. Established in 1914, the American Chamber of Commerce Executives (www.acce.org) is the only national association serving the professional development needs of chamber professionals throughout the United States and Canada. Representing more than 7,000 individuals, ACCE enhances the knowledge, leadership skills, and management effectiveness of chamber executives through education, trend analysis, benchmarking, and network development. ACCE supports and develops chamber professionals to lead businesses and their communities.
