From my research on the Northeastern Native Americans I can say that their lifestyle seemed to work great for their personalities and beliefs.

• What are the reasons for the founding of the original 13 colonies? Many people left New England to find new opportunity in the new found land

• How did the economy impact the livelihood of the 13 original colonies? It helped out by giving jobs and money to thrive in this new land

• How did the colonies govern themselves? Sometimes a self-governing colony uses its oligarchy to appoint a governor or leader.

Why Did People Settle In This Region

This area had lots of water ways for easy transport of goods and people.

Climate of the Region

Mild and short summers and long, cold winters but less disease than in the warmer southern colonies.

Thick forests and long mountain ranges with valleys and rivers.

Typical Occupations Found in the Region

Industries & Products - Fish, whale, ships, timber, furs, maple syrup, copper, livestock, horses, rum, whiskey and beer.

From what I know before this project I was taught that the people that first left new england left because of no free religion. Now in the north colonies they do not except different religions… strange right? Now I know that they didn’t always settle because of religion, but because of new economy, new job opportunities, and a new chance…

Why People Settled (Colonized) in This Region

• New York (Middle Colony) It was founded by the Dutch for trade and furs and became an English Colony in 1664.

• New Jersey (Middle Colony) It was founded in 1664 for farming and trade.

• Pennsylvania (Middle Colony) It was founded by William Penn and some other Quakers for religious freedom.

• Delaware (Middle Colony) It was founded in 1776.

Climate of the Region

• The Middle Colonies had a mild climate with warm summers and mild winters.

Landforms/Vegetation of the Region

• The geography of the Middle Colonies had a mix of the New England and Southern features but had fertile soil and land that was suited to farming

Typical Occupations Found in the Region

Exported agricultural products and natural resources. The Middle colonies are often called the breadbasket colonies because they grew so many crops, especially wheat. The Middle colonies built flour mills where wheat was ground into flour, then shipped to England. A typical farm was 50 to 150 acres consisting of a house, barn, yard and fields. The Middle Colonies were also able to manufacture iron ore products such as plows, tools, kettles, nails and large blocks of iron which they exported to England.

How They Governed Themselves

The government was simular to the New England colonies; Middle Colonies elected their own legislature, they were all democratic, they all had a governor, governor's court, and a court system. Government in the Middle Colonies was mainly Proprietary, but New York started as a Royal Colony.

I can infer that the middle colonies didn’t have such strict religion laws and that they were nicknamed the breadbasket state because of all of the agricultural products they farmed.

I have learned that each of the three regions had different types of ways to work and that each region could supply the next in a type of cycle that is very efficient and cost saving. The most profitable region was the southern region with its massive agricultural farms and huge plantations.
