PDP opposesdeportation of

RohingyasExcelsior Correspondent

SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Majordifferences today surfacedbetween coalition partnersPeople’s Democratic Party (PDP)and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP)over Rohingyas Muslims’ pres-ence in the country after formerdistanced itself from deportationdemand made by one of its legis-lators Vikramaditya Singh andinstead sympathized with theMyanmar migrants, saying it is ahuman issue and should be treatedhumanely.

While opposing the demandof deportation of Rohingyas, sen-ior PDP leader and EducationMinister Syed Altaf Bukhari saidthat the statement ofVikramaditya Singh could be hispersonal views and doesn’t reflectparty’s stand. The PDP legislatorfrom Jammu had yesterdaydemanded that the Rohingyas liv-ing in Jammu should be deportedimmediately “as they have linkswith militant outfits and posethreat to internal security of theState and country”.

"As far as the statement fromour MLC (Vikramaditya Singh)which has come from Jammu isconcerned — I have read that —it could be his personal view anddoesn’t fall in line with partystand,” Bukhari told reportershere when asked about PDP’sstand after Singh’s statement.

He asserted that the issue ofRohingyas Muslims is a humanissue and Kashmiri people standwith them. “I don’t think anyoneother than Kashmiris know howto stand for those who have beenthrown out from their homes. WeKashmiris, be it KashmiriMuslims or Pandits, have shownthat we stand for each other andno one other than us holds thatamount of sympathy which wehave for the Rohingyas,” thePDP-BJP Cabinet Minister said.
