The sign-up sheet will be available at the Front Desk and please remember that seating is limited. Other activities include a Tailgate Party to celebrate Super Bowl 50. Hungry for a Healthy HeartThere are plenty of foods with

heart health benefits. Find out whyhealth experts advise filling up onthese options:

Beans, lentils and chickpeas.Packed with protein—but without thecholesterol that comes with animalsources—these legumes are a keycomponent of a heart-healthy diet andcan help control blood sugar. Thesehigh-fiber foods also prevent badcholesterol from being absorbed bythe body.

Yogurt. High in potassium, yogurtand other dairy products can helpreduce high blood pressure. But theprobiotics in yogurt could have anadded benefit for your heart: By fighting“unfriendly” bacteria in the mouth, yogurt may protect against gumdisease, which can raise your risk forheart disease.

Grapes and raisins. Thanks to thepresence of resveratrol, which canprevent blood clotting as well as lowercholesterol and blood pressure, redgrapes are a popular choice onheart-healthy menus. Both red andwhite grapes contain polyphenols thatcan prevent artherosclerosis (hardeningof the arteries), and raisins can fightinflammation and bacteria that causegum disease.

Spotlight Residents: BettyEhlman & Peggy MarchantHow do you choose between two

deserving people for our FebruaryResident Spotlight, especially if theyare sisters? That’s easy ... youchoose both!

Mrs. Peggy Marchant was born inHartford, CT, on May 9, 1932, one of 5children. After graduating from highschool, she was a payroll timekeeperat a cosmetic factory. One day, sheand a friend decided to join themilitary (always a good spur of themoment decision, right?) and the onlybranch that was open was the MarineCorps, so our Mrs. Peggy signed upright then and there. But it worked outgreat, because she met the love of herlife, Roger, in the Corps. He was atower operator and her job was tosend flight plans up to him ... ah, truelove. During their 59 years ofmarriage, Roger and Mrs. Peggymoved all over the Midwest, alongwith their 3 sons and 3 daughters. Before moving here in August 2015,Mrs. Peggy had looked at otherplaces but something kept bringingher back here ... (maybe to make surethat Mrs. Betty stayed out of trouble?).When asked what she likes aboutliving here, she said that she loves thequietness and her apartment, as wellas the camaraderie of the staff. Mrs.Peggy describes herself as being“blunt,” but she does have fun! Heradvice for new move-ins: “Give it achance” and her outlook on life is onethat everyone should follow: “Ifsomething happens to you, you haveto face it head on. Take life asit comes.”

Mrs. Betty Ehlman and her littleAngel became residents here in June2015. She was born on Jan. 6, 1943,in Bridgeport, CT. After attendingbusiness college, she spent 2 yearsbuilding computers for IBM. She thenspent 4 years as Head Teller in abank, but quit to start a family with hertrue love, her husband, Jerry. Whileshe stayed home raising their twodaughters, Jerry worked for theUFCW (the United Food andCommercial Workers union). Duringtheir 46 years of wedded bliss, theylived in Connecticut and on LongIsland. According to Mrs. Betty, Mrs.Peggy did enough moving for theentire family!

Six-year-old Angel was rescuedfrom the pound and both ladies agreethat she is truly an angel who watchesover them.

Mrs. Betty enjoys stamp collecting, line dancing, and rock collecting. Iguess most women love to collect“rocks” like the shiny, expensive kindthat goes on their fingers, but Mrs.Betty collected actual rocks. Well, someone has to do it, right?

About living here, Mrs. Betty lovesthe people and the staff and we loveher. She is always there to volunteerand we want her to know how muchwe appreciate that. Her philosophy isvery simple ... “show love, showaffection and show people that youcare. And be yourself.”

Congratulations to these tworemarkable women for allowing us toshine the Resident Spotlight on themboth. And of course, on Angel, too.
