It was the rst o man starts though or the Santa Barbara, Cali . native as he went on to make 23 or the club in 2011 while posting the ninth best ERA in the Eastern League at 3.70. This season, Colla is 01 and has permitted at least three runs in each o his rst two starts. Last time out, Colla went ve innings in Richmond and surrendered six runs (our earned) on nine hits while striking out a pair. Mandel, 26, is no stranger to the capital o the commonwealth as he has spent parts o each o the last three seasons in Senators uniorm. In 2011, Mandel started with Harrisburg onl to make ve relie appear ances beore being promoted to TripleA Sracuse, where he spent most o the season . In 43 games out o the ‘pen or the Chies, Mandel put up a respect able 44 record with a 3.81 ERA and three saves. Last season was the rst time in his proessional career that he came exclusivel out o the bullpen ater being a starter in the Nationals organization rom 200710. He was selected b the ‘Nats in the 19th round o the 2007 drat out o Balor and enjoed his best pro essional season in 2009 when he earned midseason AllStar accolades in the Carolina League. The T exas native also started in the ASG or the Carolina League and then nished his ear with a stint in the Arizona Fall League. The switchhitti ng catcher collected the team’s rst threehit game o the season on Monda night and all told is batting .333 in nine games plaed with ve RBI. He had two pinchhit singles in his rst two pinch hit attempts over the weekend in Richmond as well. QUALITY AND QUANTITY: The last turn through the starting rotation was pr ett solid or the Curve as three o the ve starters turned in qualit starts while the other two both lasted ve innings. In the last time through the rotation, the ve horsemen (Mike Colla, Nathan Baker, Brandon Cumpton, Aaron Pribanic and Aaron Poreda) have combined or a 2.79 ERA, allowing nine earned runs in 29.0 innings pitched. NO BULL: While the starters have been good, the bullpen has been equall impressive to start the oung season.
