Welcome Welcome to Streetly Parish Family Eucharist. Our faith starts with the most generous gift of all – God’s gift to us of life itself and new life and new hope in Jesus Christ. What we call ’generosity’ is just our response to these great gifts. Last week we began celebrating God’s generosity with Harvest Festival. Today we conclude generosity week with gratitude. Expressing in our worship our gratitude to God for all we have been given as children of God. We hope that you will feel at home as we gather to worship God. We welcome active participation of people of all ages! To do this, we encourage you to sit with your children towards the front of the church, where children can see and join in. There is a blue-carpeted area at the back of church where young children may find space during and after the service. Today Route 66 meets for any children who would like to meet in the hall with our volunteers, after the gospel, re-joining us as we share the peace. You are invited to join in the responses in bold type and sing the hymns/songs as indicated on the song sheet. If it is your normal custom to receive communion, please come as instructed by the stewards. Gluten-free wafers are offered in addition to wafers or bread. Please indicate your preference to the priest. If you would prefer to receive a blessing, please bring this service booklet with you and the Priest will say a prayer for you.

There are facilities through the hall, including a disabled-access toilet and baby-changing facilities. The offering collected today will be for the mission and ministry of the church here in Streetly. If you can gift-aid, please do so by using the white envelopes at the ends of the pews. Thank you. The church relies upon the generous giving of those who worship to maintain its ministry, thank you.

Preparation before worship

In preparation for worship, you might wish to pray privately this Prayer of General Thanksgiving.

Accept, O Lord, our thanks and praise for all that you have done for us. We thank you for the splendour of the whole creation, for the beauty of this world, for the wonder of life, and for the mystery of love. We thank you for the blessing of family and friends, and for the loving care which surrounds us on every side. We thank you for setting us at tasks which demand our best efforts, and for leading us to accomplishments which satisfy and delight us. We thank you also for those disappointments and failures that lead us to acknowledge our dependence on you alone. Above all, we thank you for your Son Jesus Christ; for the truth of his Word and the example of his life; for his steadfast obedience, by which he overcame temptation; for his dying, through which he overcame death; and for his rising to life again, in which we are raised to the life of your kingdom. Grant us the gift of your Spirit, that we may know him and make him known; and through him, at all times and in all places, may give thanks to you in all things. Amen.

Hymn

Please stand

O worship the King all glorious above, O gratefully sing his pow’r and his love: our shield and defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendour and girded with praise.

O tell of his might, O sing of his grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space; his chariots of wrath the deep thunder-clouds form, and dark is his path on the wings of the storm.

The earth, with its store of wonders untold, almighty, thy pow’r hath founded of old: hatn stablished it fast by a changeless decree, and round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.

Thy bountiful care what tongue can recite?

It breathes in the air, it shines in the light; it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain, and sweetly distils in the dew and the rain.

Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail; thy mercies, how tender, how firm to the end! Our maker, defender, redeemer, and friend.

O measureless might, ineffable love, while angels delight to hymn thee above, thy humbler creation, though feeble their lays, with true adoration shall sing to thy praise.

Words of welcome or introduction are shared

Prayers of Penitence

As those who know the generosity of God, let us confess our sins, especially the ways in which we take his good gifts for granted.

Creative God, you have gifted us with your creation, yet we take your good gifts for granted; Lord, have mercy.

All: Lord, have mercy.

Gracious God, you bless us each day, yet we forget to be thankful; Christ, have mercy.

All: Christ, have mercy.

Page 8: All Saints’ Parish Church, Streetly

8

Generous God, you offer new life through your Son, yet we turn away from you; Lord, have mercy.

All: Lord, have mercy.

May God who loved the world so much that he sent his Son to be our Saviour forgive us our sins and make us holy to serve him in the world, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

Gloria

Gloria is said

All: Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

The Collect

In a time of silence, let us pray that we may draw closer to the one who has created all things.

Silence is kept.

God of grace, ever creating and restoring, you breathe life into all things and embrace us with an everlasting love; help us to grow in wonder and awe, to embody a spirit of gratitude, and to dream generous dreams; that, in gathering what we have, we may graciously offer ourselves to accomplish what you will, in Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word

The First Reading

As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

Colossians 3.12-17

This is the word of the Lord – All: Thanks be to God

Hymn Please stand

Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to thee; take my moments and my days, let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of thy love; take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for thee. Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King; take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from thee. Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold; take my intellect, and use ev’ry pow’r as thou shalt choose. Take my will, and make it thine: it shall be no longer mine; take my heart: it is thine own; it shall be thy royal throne. Take my love; my Lord, I pour at thy feet its treasure-store; take myself, and I will be ever, only, all for thee.

Gospel Reading

Please stand and turn towards the gospel book,

which is read from the lectern. Cantor: Alleluia….. (x8) Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening. You have the words of eternal life. All: Alleluia……(x8)

Hear the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Luke

All: Glory to you, O Lord.

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!’ When he saw them, he said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, ‘Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ Then he said to him, ‘Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.’

Luke 17.11-19

This is the Gospel of the Lord. All: Praise to you, O Christ.

Sermon

Please be seated

Our Response to God’s Word the Creed Please stand.

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

Page 13: All Saints’ Parish Church, Streetly

13

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Hymn Please stand An offering is taken, and people reflect on gifts given. The table is prepared, and bread and wine are placed upon it.

For the fruits of his creation, thanks be to God; for his gifts to ev’ry nation, thanks be to God; for the ploughing, sowing, reaping, silent growth while we are sleeping, future needs in earth’s safe keeping, thanks be to God. In the just reward of labour, God’s will is done; in the help we give our neighbour, God’s will is done; in our world-wide task of caring for the hungry and despairing, in the harvests we are sharing, God’s will is done. For the harvests of his Spirit, thanks be to God; for the good we all inherit, thanks be to God; for the wonders that astound us, for the truths that still confound us, most of all, that love has found us, thanks be to God.

Page 18: All Saints’ Parish Church, Streetly

Prayer over Offering

God of all creation, the source of life and giver of all good things; through your goodness you have blessed us with these gifts. With them we offer our lives; that we may be used to serve others, and give you glory. We make our prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord.

All: Amen.

Taking of the Bread and Wine

Giving God, from whom comes every good and perfect gift, that we might grow in gratitude and share your blessings; accept these gifts of bread and wine, and may the sacrifice of Christ draw us closer to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.

The Eucharistic Prayer

Please stand

The Lord be with you All: and also with you.

Lift up your hearts.

All: We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All: It is right to give thanks and praise.

Eternal God and Father, all things are in your making. In fulfilment of your promise you have showered us with blessings and filled us with your gifts. You form us in your image, the first fruits of your creation, and by your Holy Spirit embed within us generous hearts that we may be channels of your self-giving love. Through your Son Jesus Christ, you have freed us from our sins and made us a kingdom of priests to serve you with joy for ever. Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying:

All: Holy, holy, holy Lord,

God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

Page 20: All Saints’ Parish Church, Streetly

20

We praise and bless you, loving Father, through Jesus Christ, our Lord; and as we obey his command, send your Holy Spirit, that broken bread and wine outpoured may be for us the body and blood of your dear Son. On the night before he died he had supper with his friends and, taking bread, he praised you. He broke the bread, gave it to them and said: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me. When supper was ended he took the cup of wine. Again he praised you, gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me. So, Father, we remember all that Jesus did, in him we plead with confidence his sacrifice made once for all upon the cross. Bringing before you the bread of life and cup of salvation, we proclaim his death and resurrection until he comes in glory. Praise to you, Lord Jesus:

All: Dying you destroyed our death, rising you restored our life: Lord Jesus, come in glory.

Page 21: All Saints’ Parish Church, Streetly

21

Lord of all life, help us to work together for that day when your kingdom comes and justice and mercy will be seen in all the earth. Look with favour on your people, gather us in your loving arms and bring us with all the saints to feast at your table in heaven. Through Christ, and with Christ, and in Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour and glory are yours, O loving Father, for ever and ever.

All: Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer Please sit or kneel

Coming before you with thankful hearts, as our Saviour taught us, so we pray

Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours Amen.

The Breaking of Bread

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.

All: Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one bread.

All sing: Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace.

God’s holy gifts for God’s holy people.

All: Jesus Christ is holy, Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Giving of Communion

For those of us sharing spiritual communion in church or at home via Facebook live, we say:

All: Thanks be to you, Lord Jesus Christ,

for all the benefits you have given me, for all the pains and insults you have borne for me. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, I ask you to come spiritually into my heart. O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother, may I know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen.

The Body of Christ. Amen. The Blood of Christ. Amen.

You are warmly invited to come to receive communion in one kind (wafer only).

Please leave your seat to receive when a Duty Warden invites you to do so.

Please return to your seat observing the one-way system, via the Lady Chapel. If you would prefer to receive a blessing, please bring this service booklet with you and the Priest will say a prayer for you. If you are unable to come to receive but wish to do so, please let the Duty warden know and a wafer will be brought to you at the end of administration. During the giving of communion, there will singing

Page 24: All Saints’ Parish Church, Streetly

24

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name? Will you go where you don’t know and never be the same?

Will you let my love be shown, will you let my name be known, will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

Will you leave your self behind if I but call your name? Will you care for cruel and kind and never be the same?

Will you risk the hostile stare should your life attract or scare, will you let me answer prayer in you and you in me?

Will you let the blinded see if I but call your name? Will you set the pris’ners free and never be the same? Will you kiss the leper clean and do such as this unseen, and admit to what I mean in you and you in me? Will you love the ‘you’ you hide if I but call your name? Will you quell the fear inside and never be the same?

Will you use the faith you’ve found to reshape the world around through my sight and touch and sound in you and you in me?

Page 25: All Saints’ Parish Church, Streetly

25

Lord, your summons echoes true when you but call my name. Let me turn and follow you and never be the same. In your company I’ll go where your love and footsteps show. Thus I’ll move and live and grow in you and you in me.

Prayer after Communion

Gracious God, around your table we taste your generosity and your sacrificial love; help us to be rooted, grafted and built in you, that in all we are and all we do, we may show forth abundant thanksgiving and live lives of immeasurable gratitude; through Jesus Christ our Lord.

All: Amen.
