RAZORS COMPLETE SWEEP - The Bethlehem Razors 7-8 Soccer Team wrapped upa complete sweep in the ACPR Soccer League, winning the Regular Season and Post-Season Tournament titles. The team included: Ashley Laney, Chesnie Chatham, DaltonChildress, Alia Greenlee, Zane Icenhour, Cade Miller, Sean Moren, Madeline Mosteller, EricPoovey, Katelyn Shook, Leah Starnes, and Caroline Wills. Two Bethlehem squads enjoy stellar seasons on the pitchDuring the fall, a pair of Bethlehem Recreation Soccer Clubs enjoyed

outstanding seasons in the Alexander County Parks and RecreationLeague.

The Bethlehem Blast 5-6 Team and the Bethlehem Razors 7-8 Teamcaptured championships during the recently completed county season.

The Blast Team won the regular season title and earned a runner-upfinish in the league’s post-season tournament.

The following scores were reported by the Blast Coaching Staff:Bethlehem Blast 5 – Bethlehem #1 0, Jace Miller and Payne Sherrill

had two goals each for the Blast, while Evan Tart netted a single goal.Bethlehem Blast 3 – Sugar Loaf 1. Payce Sherrill scored twice, while

Evan Tart added one goal in the win.Bethlehem Blast 1 – Hiddenite 0. Payce Sherrill netted the match’s

only goal, while Cody Smithey recorded a shutout in the goal.Bethlehem Blast 1 – Bethlehem #3 0. Payce Sherrill scored the only

goal for the Blast, while Jace Miller, Maddie Howell, and Evan Tart ledthe winners on defense.

Bethlehem Blast 5 – Stony Point 2. Jace Miller had a hat trick for theBlast, while Evan Tart chipped in with two goals.

Bethlehem Blast 3 – Stony Point 1. Jace Miller had two goals andEvan Tart added one goal for the Blast in the win.

Bethlehem Blast 7 – Bethlehem #1 2. Jace Miller (4 goals) and EvanTart (3 goals) led the winners on offense.

Bethlehem Blast 3 – Hiddenite 2. Evan Sherrill notched two goals,while Payne Sherrill added one goal for the winners. Jace Miller andCarter Bolick led the defense.

Bethlehem Blast 4 – Ellendale 0. Evan Tart recorded the shutout inthe goal, while Jace Miller scored two goals. Carter Bolick and Zac Bolickadded one goal each.

Bethlehem Blast 1 – Sugar Loaf 1. This match ended in a tie withEvan Tart scoring the lone goal for the Blast. Jace Miller, Payce Sherrill,and Ethan Brumley led the winners on defense.

Bethlehem Blast 4 – Bethlehem #3 1. Evan Tart notched a hat trick,while Carter Bolick added one goal for the Blast.

Bethlehem Blast 2 – Ellendale 0. Evan Tart scored both goals in thewin, while Jace Miller, Payce Sherrill, and Zac Bolick led the defense forthe Blast.

Payce Sherrill and Evan Tart netted one goal each to lead the Blast.In the 7-8 League, the Bethlehem Razors completed an unbeaten

season after winning the ACPR regular season and post-season tourneytitles.

Bethlehem brothers Cade Miller and Jace Miller enjoyed fine fall soccer seasons in the Alexander CountyParks and Recreation League this past season. Cade, left, was a member of the Bethlehem Razors Club thatswept the regular season and post-season titles in the league. He finished an impressive season with 50goals to lead the Razors. He received the Golden Touch Award for his offensive play and earned the “GoldenBoot” for scoring 50 goals on the year. Jace Miller, pictured at the right, was a member of the BethlehemBlast 5-6 Team that won the regular season title and placed second in the post-season tournament. In hisfirst time playing soccer, Jace netted 13 goals for the Blast. The league champion brothers are the sons ofChristie (Barlowe) and Chris Miller of Bethlehem.

Craftmaster hires Welch as Director of Merchandising

Craftmaster Furniture has hired April Welch as the Director ofMerchandising.

April has over 25 years of experience in the furniture industry andmost recently was the Fashion Director of upholstery at BernhardtFurniture in Lenoir. She also spent 10 years as the Director ofUpholstery for Cochrane Furniture and 12 years as the buyer forBlowing Rock Furniture in Hudson.

The Alexander Central HighSchool “Cougar Empty StockingProject” fund drive is in need ofdonations to help low-income stu-dents with food and gifts for theholidays.

Kathy Jones, ACHS SchoolSocial Worker and Coordinatorfor the fundraiser, says that “121students have been identified asin need of help, but the currentdonations are far short of beingable to cover them.”

Donors can give the gift ofhelping others and honor some-one at the same time. A holidaygreeting card, designed by theACHS Art Department, will besent to the honoree stating thatmoney has been donated in theirhonor by the named donor andthat it will be used to “fill thestocking” of a needy ACHS stu-dent. The amount of the donationis not stated in the card. A mini-mum donation of $5.00 per hon-oree would be appreciated.Donors can also “Adopt a CougarStocking” off of the Christmastree in the ACHS front office anddonate $25 to completely sponsorone student. Anyone wishing todonate may do so by picking up aform in the front office at ACHS,or by downloading it from theschool website at www.alexander-central.com, and mailing it in witha check written to AlexanderCentral High School and notingon the bottom that it is for the“Cougar Empty Stocking.”

Clover Baptist Church, locat-ed at 100 Pinewood Road,Granite Falls, is excitedlypreparing for the presentationof their Christmas drama thiscoming weekend. The drama,entitled “Why Can’t We JustHave An Old FashionedChristmas?” will be presentedSaturday, December 17, at 7 p.m.and Sunday, December 18. Allseating is free.

Church pastor, Rev. KeithChilders, has taken the musicfrom an “old” drama that he waspart of back in the 70’s andarranged it with a new scriptthat he has written.

The drama unfolds as thecast and choir are in their finalrehearsal. During the rehearsalvarious choir members begin toshare remembrances of the ‘oldfashioned’ Christmases theyenjoyed while growing up. Someshare the hard times they expe-rienced which are relevant tosome of the hard times folks areexperiencing today due to theeconomy and layoffs. Their oldfashioned communityChristmas program pointshearts and minds back to thereal meaning of Christmas withthe message that a Saviour hasbeen born. During the drama,the children will re-enact thescene of the nativity. Everyoneis invited to attend.
