    ACTIVE SHOOTER INSTRUCTORThis five-day program examines various tactical theories and putsthem into application. The primary purpose of this program is todeal with active shooter issues and deal with realistic methods ofoperations including officer down rescue, team considerations,methods of assessments and practical application of force.

    ADVANCED BATON INSTRUCTOR

    This course is a delivery based, hands-on program. The Instructorwill develop the knowledge and the skills necessary to effectivelytrain officers in the use of baton techniques, take-downs andescorts in accordance with their departments use of force contin-uum.

    ADVANCED PR24 BATON INSTRUCTORThis course is a delivery based, hands-on program. The Instructorwill develop the knowledge and the skills necessary to effectivelytrain officers in the use of PR24 baton techniques, take-downs andescorts in accordance with their departments use of force contin-uum.

    CHEMICAL MUNITIONS INSTRUCTORThis course provides a complete overview of the use of traditionalchemical agent munitions, crowd control techniques, and aerosol

    devices. CONTRACT BASIS ONLY/Not available in MA.

    CLOSE QUARTERS BATTLE INSTRUCTORAs part of our firearms training, this course offers the opportunityto develop and refine close quarter battle shooting skills and con-centrates in the dynamic tactical utilization of the pistol and riflefor the individual officer or special response team member. Thiscourse can serve as an excellent individual skill development pro-gram for police officers, security and military personnel as well asfor the firearms instructor looking for advancement or new ideas.Full tactical potential will be explored in 2 days of intensive trainingto include low light, shooting while moving, moving targets, entryformations and tactics as well as active shooter scenarios.

    DEFENSIVE TACTICS INSTRUCTORThis course is designed to give the Instructor the necessary skillsto conduct a class in accordance with their departmental use offorce continuum. This program covers subject control techniques,take-downs, pressure points, joint manipulations, handcuffing,weapon retention, and baton.

    EDGE WEAPONS AWARENESS & SPONTANEOUSDEFENSE INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATIONDuring the two day course, the student will be put through allphases of edge weapons defense, both physical and mental. Thestudent will have to defend against attackers using armed and un-armed techniques along with their departmental use of force con-tinuum. Due to the nature of the class, the class size is limited to20 students. Certification is 3 years. Class Attire: B.D.U. typepants, tee-shirt, duty belts, boots or sneakers.

    FIREARMS INSTRUCTORInstructor certification is our most important responsibility. Teach-ing officers to instruct others in the fundamentals of firearms uti-lization and survival requires preparation. Methods of instruction,range operation/exercises, lesson plan development, liability andhandgun flashlight techniques will be covered in addition to basicinstructional skills development with the revolver, pistol and shot-gun. Students seeking admission into this program must submitdocumentation of prior firearms training, signed or otherwise ver-ified by a superior officer. These criteria are indispensable to suc-cessful completion of the program.

    FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR UPDATEDesigned to keep firearms instructors up-to-date on todays is-sues. S&W instructors are required to attend an Update/Recerti-fication program every three years. Active firearms instructors

    not certified by the Smith & Wesson Academy are also encour-aged to participate.

    HANDCUFFING INSTRUCTORThis course is designed to give the student the necessary back-ground to conduct a comprehensive handcuffing program for hisor her agency, using the new Smith & Wesson Industry Approvedprogram. This program deals with officer assaults, liabilities con-cerning use of force, all phases of handcuffing, i.e., seated, prone,supine, subject care and searches, and proper maintenance.

    LAW ENFORCEMENT PATROL RIFLE INSTRUCTORThis course will satisfy instructor certification requirements fortraining officers in the use of rifles/carbines suitable for law en-forcement. Tactical use of the weapon is stressed as is the judicialuse of deadly force at close to intermediate ranges.

    OLEORESIN CAPSICUM (OC) INSTRUCTORThis course is a delivery based, hands-on program. The instructorwill develop the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively trainofficers in the use of OC spray in accordance with their depart-mental use of force continuum. Advise and evaluate administra-tors in OC spray uses and policies.

    POINT SHOOTING INSTRUCTORThis two-day lecture and hands-on live fire course is designed togive the firearms instructor the working knowledge needed to in-

    struct others in the technique of point shooting. Instructor can-didate will learn the benefits of point shooting over aimed shootingand how to develop a point shooting program within their ownagency. Realistic courses of fire as well as target analysis will bediscussed.

    SUBMACHINE GUN INSTRUCTORProvides an in-depth look at the applicability of the submachinegun to the law enforcement environment. Focus of the program ison developing technical skills with the submachine gun and an un-derstanding of the firearm.

    SUBMACHINE GUN OPERATORThis three-day course will satisfy operators certification require-ments by training officers in the use of submachine guns suitablefor law enforcement and security professionals. Tactical use ofthe weapon is stressed throughout the course, addressing the ju-dicious use of deadly force at close to intermediate range. Preci-sion shooting application will be addressed as well. In thiscontext, this course is suitable for those wishing to address useof the submachine gun in police, corrections, protective servicesor armed security operations.

    TACTICAL PISTOLThis course offers the opportunity to develop and refine basicshooting skills and to concentrate on the dynamic tacticalutilization of the pistol for the individual officer.

    TACTICAL GROUND FIGHTINGThis course concentrates on a practical approach to groundfighting techniques for the instructor. This breakthrough

    course will show the instructor candidate important drills andtactics for when the arrest becomes a ground fight for survival.

    TACTICAL SCOPE RIFLEDesigned to develop and enhance the skills of the assigned tacticalobserver/marksman in law enforcement, armed security, correc-tions, military, law enforcement and other armed professions.

    Law Enforcement/Military Programs

    INSTRUCTOR RECERTIFICATION POLICYWe often have requests to recertify the credentials of Wesson Academy trained Firearms Instructors by meathan the Firearms Instructor Update and Recertificationwhich was designed for that purpose.

    Our policy is for every three-year period, the recertificatbe obtained with any five-day Smith & Wesson Academytor level firearms course. Therefore, at least every six yFirearms Instructor Update and Recertification course taken.

    As always, the staff at Smith & Wesson Academy urgetake at least one training course per year to broaden yourexperience as much as possible.

    ADVANCED HANDGUN INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATTwo of the following three courses must be successfupleted in order to be eligible for this certification:

    The Armorers Program is designed for the law enforcement, military, security or select civilian armorers associated with the firearms industry. Successful completion of these courses will enablearmorer to keep their departments or customers firearms in safe operating condition. These courses will concentrate on the functioning of various parts, fitting procedures, and inspection techniqo keep their firearm within factory standards. When attending a course at the Smith & Wesson Academy in Springfield, MA, a hi-tech video system is used with large screen monitors to demonsthese procedures in real time. Also, easy-to-follow, step-by-step manuals are used to enhance the students comprehension of these courses. Some courses may be closed to civilians. Cour

    can be completed at the Smith & Wesson Academy or at field schools around the country. Foreign persons (as defined in 22 C.F.R. 120.16) who wish to participate in Smith & Wesson ArmoPrograms will require a DSP5 license from the State Department. For more information, please call 413-846-6461.

    REVOLVER

    This course is designed for Smith & Wesson duty-type revolvers.It will focus on inspection, trouble shooting, and repair techniques.The course outline is similar to the pistol course covering topicssuch as disassembly, fitting of new parts, and reassembly. Thepast and present designs will be covered. Lessons will be per-formed on past designs first to expose the armorer to revolverfunction, and then present designs and repair techniques will becovered in depth to ensure confidence in revolver repair and main-tenance.

    REVOLVER/J-FRAME DOUBLE ACTION ONLY REVOLVERThis new, four-day course is designed for Smith & Wesson duty-type revolvers including the J-Frame. The course description isthe same as the Revolver program with the added day for J-Frame.

    3RD GENERATION PISTOLThis course is designed for Smith & Wesson duty-type pistols. Itwill focus on disassembly, repair, and reassembly, as well as func-tioning of various systems. Performing lessons repeatedly willensure good hands-on instruction for better understanding of thisfirearm. The course will include the Traditional Single/Double Ac-tion, and Double Action Only pistols. The Sigma Series is notcovered in this course.

    SW99/WALTHER P99 PISTOL

    This course is designed for Smith & Wesson SW99 Series orWalther P99 Series pistols. Focus will be on disassembly, repair,and reassembly, as well as functioning of various systems. Per-forming lessons repeatedly will ensure good hands-on instructionfor a better understanding of these firearms.

    REVOLVER OR PISTOL RECERTIFICATIONBoth courses will cover general information learned during initialcertification. In addition to this, emphasis will be placed on currentdesigns, inspection techniques, and fitting methods. Students willalso inspect and trouble shoot several firearms with specific issuescommonly seen in the field. This will reinforce their ability tocorrect issues they encounter with confidence. Armorers shouldbe RECERTIFIED EVERY FOUR YEARS. Students may recertifyat a three-day field school in their region.

    M&P PISTOLThis course is designed for Smith & Wesson M&P pistols. Focuswill be on nomenclature, field stripping and maintenance, safetiesand safety checks, detailed disassembly, troubleshooting andminor repairs. Performing lessons repeatedly will ensure goodhands-on instruction for a better understanding of this firearm.

    M&P15 RIFLEThis course is designed for Smith & Wesson M&P15 Rifles. Focuswill be on nomenclature, field stripping and maintenance, safetiesand safety checks, detailed disassembly of both the upper assem-blies and lower receivers, troubleshooting and minor repairs.Performing lessons repeatedly will ensure good hands-on instruc-tion for a better understanding of this rifle.

    M&P15 RIFLE/M&P4 CARBINE

    WOMENS AGGRESSIVE STREET PROTECTION SYSTEMDuration: 2 days / 16 hours

    The Womens Aggressive Street Protection System (WASPS) is adesigned system of quick precise sting-like strikes (hence thename) that are targeted at specific parts of an attackers body, al-lowing the victim a chance to escape from a potentially dangeroussituation.

    Emphasis will be placed on how to correctly evade and escape anattacker by delivering strikes which include kicks, elbows, kneesand palm heels. Students will also be taught pressure points andjoint manipulations along with environmental and physical aware-ness. All of these skills will be incorporated into the training.

    The Womens Aggressive Street Protection System is one of theonly Awareness/Rape Prevention Classes to offer this kind of train-ing. Upon request, students may also incorporate chemical agentsand firearms for an additional cost.

    Civilian ProgramsADVANCED CONCEALED CARRY HANDGUNDuration: 3 days / 21 hours Tuition: $425

    This course is intended for the person who has decided to lawfullycarry a concealed handgun. Special attention is paid to the con-cerns of being armed in public, and how to select support gearthat fits your physique, occupation, choice of fashions, and yourfirearm. Special attention is given to the draw and recovery se-

    quence from concealment, while moving, pivoting, or turning toengage target.

    CONCEALED CARRY PROTECTIONDuration: 2 days / 14 hours Tuition: $300

    This course is designed for persons who have decided to armthemselves for home or business defense, and concentrates onthe role of the concealed handgun in personal protection. The fun-damentals of safe and capable firearms handling are taught andreinforced throughout and include a focus on the dynamic ap-proach to surviving an armed confrontation. An emphasis isplaced on the defensive application of firearms skills in the home,street or business.

    For the new shooter or gun owner, this course uses a step-by-stepapproach to enhance rapid skill development, utilizing instructorcoaching. This course offers an update on effective defensivehandgun skills as well as a review of sound fundamentals and tac-tics.

    Course content to include:

    Learn how to safely handle and store firearms in the home andprofessional environment

    Address the legal and moral aspects of the defensible use ofdeadly force

    Learn how to safely and effectively utilize your skills in astressful encounter, including loading, reloading, and clearingmalfunctions

    This Advanced Defensive Handgun program is intended for thoseindividuals who have already successfully completed a competentDefensive Handgun Training course. It is not intended for begin-ning students.

    This course will emphasize speed, practical accuracy, readinessand the compounding of tactical advantages. Students will betested at the end of the program.

    shot techniques Firearms safety applicable to range, home and defensive situ-

    Discussion on the use of a defensive carbine or rifle, includingits applications, strengths and limitations as a home defenseweapon

    Note: Student may attend with a carbine that is equipped withiron sights or a scope up to 3X. A sling is required.

    Most of the skills learned in the Concealed Carry ProtecAdvanced Concealed Carry Courses will be briefly reviethen advanced through live fire, interactive and scenaritraining. The employment of Simunition gun and amwill allow the review and critique of critical decision makin scenarios, honing ones defensive tactics.

    Course content to include: An extensive session on reduced light training cover

    nical and tactical considerations, techniques for seidentifying and engagement, as well as special equipmcerns. The training is then utilized in dynamic and insettings.

    Judgemental training which enhances the ability to identify and deal with threats through the use of verbsound tactics, and handgun skills while incorporatingtargets and settings.

    DEFENSIVE SHOTGUNDuration: 2 days / 14 hours Tuition: $350

    This course will focus on fundamental skills required inhandling of the shotgun as a home defense tool. You wiload, unload, sustain fire, perform an emergency reloaclear stoppages under stress.

    Course content to include: Basic usage and maintenance How to perform pivots and turn with the long gun How to select and use cover properly How to search for and engage threats Cleaning and maintenance

    tration. The registration fee for all classes is non-refundable. If you wish to switch to an alternateclass, you must contact the Shooting Sports Centerat least one week prior to the date of the classes forwhich you registered, and we will try to accommo-date your request when possible. We reserve theright, at any time, to cancel an under-subscribedprogram. In the case of any such cancellation, wewill refund the cost of class or offer you the optionof rescheduling.
