“To support and improve economic vitality and the quality of life of businesses and the community “To support and improve economic vitality and the quality of life of businesses and the community through collaborative political advocacy, economic development, programs and services”through collaborative political advocacy, economic development, programs and services”

A four year operating levy that supports the Linn County Sheriff’s Dept., Juvenile Dept. and District Attorney’s office. These departments have been depending on the operating levy since 1982 and through the years have proven to be good stewards of the money and support they have received from Linn County voters.

The proposed rate is $2.83 per 1,000 and will preserve current services. The operating levy funds approximately 76% of the Sheriff’s Dept., 14% of the Juvenile Dept. and 10% of the DA’s offi ce. Other Linn County public safety revenue support comes from the general fund and various contracts, fees, grants, etc. Linn County has been vigilant about holding down costs, reducing employment levels and fi nding ways to generate funds via work crews, etc. and will continue to look for ways to lower costs.

If passed Linn County will reopen 48 beds in the jail that will help lower the increasing number of property and other crimes in our cities and County. Once again space will be available for offenders that are showing up in the system and being released again and again because there is no room to house them in the jail. It is time to provide the deterrent of jail time as punishment.

Vote – Yes for the Linn County

Law Enforcement Levy

Governmental Affairs Committee

Votes Overwhelmingly

to Support Linn County Law

Enforcement Levy:

Customer is not always right…. and often confused!

With signs of spring everywhere, businesses selling home improvement products have to be excited. My wife and I sat down and looked over the “to-do” list, or, as I see it, “my to-do” list. My wife uses the same “magic paper” that many of your spouses also use: I’m not sure where she gets this special stuff. It will not allow me to add or remove anything, but she is able to write on it as if it’s a journal.

We made some notes, set priorities and set off to look at some samples of tile and fl ooring at Lowes and Home Depot stores throughout the mid-valley. We bought some samples and off we went to the next store. After a while it all looks the same to me. We found a sample of tile, and of course there was not enough for our project. I checked with customer service and they were able to locate it in Roseburg and agreed to hold it for us for a couple of days. We bounced around to a few more stores until I became disinterested and began to drift over to the more expensive toys in Home Depot. The next day I chose to dart out after work for the two-hour drive getting me to the Home Depot in Roseburg by 6:30 p.m. Monday. While driving I am calculating the estimated time of arrival, pickup and return in time to get a few things done at home. Approaching the customer service representative I gave them my story, tile information and the name of the person I spoke with and the search began. For a solid 40 minutes I had the entire Home Depot team searching high and low for the product. We called the sales associate who had helped me at home, but could not reach him. They even called their store manager at home who was considering coming in to assist. I kept repeating to myself, that it had to be here! They promised! The sales consultants at Home Depot were amazing, demonstrating every possible angle for customer service! One last idea came to my mind. I called my wife and asked her to take a picture of the receipt. I fi gured the receipt would have the SKU on it, which could unlock this mystery! I received her text and I expanded it on my phone and proudly showed the sales consultant and there it was! The answer! On the top of the receipt it said, “LOWES"! I could not apologize enough and the embarrassment was uncontrollable at that point. I knew they had shovels the next aisle over to dig a hole for me but the concrete was too thick! The sales consultant looked me in the eye and held out her hand and said, we appreciate your coming in and we hope to see you again soon! My hat is off to all the Home Depot staff. They routinely demonstrate the highest level of customer service with customers like me who in this case are not right and obviously very confused!

Biggest Issue Facing Albany: I think the internet is a huge issue facing all businesses in the Albany area. People are caught up in their lives and it is just easier to jump on the computer and make a purchase. The sad fact is that the cyber money spent online does nothing help the local economy. We are all in this together and we need to strive together to survive

Chamber Involvement: Proudly serving as a Chamber Ambassador & on the Greeters Committee as co-chair.
