INTRODUCTIONIt is my pleasure to be introducing you to AIESEC Alumni International Meeting (AAIM) 2012, hosted in Moscow by AIESEC Russia. The Congress Committee has been working tirelessly, in conjunction with AIESEC Alumni International, to bring you this event. It is hard to believe that in less than 2 months, we will be welcoming you to Moscow!

AIESEC Alumni International Meeting provides a unique platform for alumni to reconnect, network, explore opportunities for business in Russia & get involved with the strategies and operations of AIESEC Alumni International. The four-day agenda is packed with high-level content, network opportunities and fantastic special events.

AAIM 2012 will be running parallel to AIESEC’s International Congress, gathering 600 young leaders from over 110 countries. These two conferences will intersect for key engagement moments: Alumni Hall of Fame ceremony, Rus-sian Night and Gala Dinner.

This year, participants of AAIM will also get to discover Russia! Before the conference, you can get acquainted with Moscow with a city tour through the capital of the Russian Federa-tion.

After the conference, you can either head north to St. Petersburg, Russia’s European city, home to many cultural and historical sites, or to Lake Baikal, which is the deepest lake on earth. Regardless of which option you choose, I guarantee that you will get an exceptional in-sight into Russian culture, language & people.

This delegate mailer includes important in-formation about the conference agenda, site, study tours and more. Please read through it, and do not hesitate to contact the AAIM team with any questions you may have. I look for-ward to welcoming you to Russia soon!

RUSSIA

[The content & photos belong to Lonely Planet & waytorussia.com]

For centuries the world has wondered what to believe about Russia. The country has been reported variously as a land of unbelievable riches and indescribable poverty, cruel tyrants and great minds, generous hospitality and meddlesome bureaucracy, beautiful ballets and industrial monstrosities, pious faith and un-bridled hedonism. These eternal Russian truths coexist in equally diverse land-scapes of icy tundra and sun-kissed beaches, dense silver birch and fir forests and deep and mysterious lakes, snow-capped mountains and swaying grass-lands – those famous steppes. Factor in ancient fortresses, luxurious palaces, swirly spired churches and lost-in-time wooden villages and you’ll begin to see why Russia is simply amazing

Russia is the country of vast landscapes, vibrant life, beautiful contrasts, and interesting people. Taking an immense space of 9000 kilom-eters from west to east and 5000 from north to south, being home to people of so many dif-ferent nationalities and traditions, Russia is often called a “bridge” between Europe and Asia, both and culturally and geo-graphically.

Since the ancient times Russia has been trans-forming and re-shaping itself, its boundaries, its culture. In the ancient times, the Slavs, Finn tribes, Tatars, had made their way through Russia, and this mix of many dif-ferent nations and their traditions has defined the unique Russian character and culture.

Page 7: AAIM Delegates Mailer

The reality is that culturally Russia has always been oriented towards the West and the recent influx of western lifestyle has created subcultures similar to those found in any other major country. At the same time, there is also something peculiar about the country and the people, even a little bit “Asian”, which you can’t really pinpoint. Perhaps, one could say that consciously the country is European, but subconsciously it’s Asian.

Russia is the largest country in the world. Ural mountains divide the Eurasian continent - and Russia - into Europe and Asia. One fourth of the Russian territory lies in Europe, the other part lies in Asia. Russia’s taking the area of 17.1 million square kilometers - it’s like USA and Europe combined. Even though Russia is considered to be a mix of Europe and Asia, this assumption is only based on geography.
