ImpactA Year of

2013 NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BROADCASTERS POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

Mission Statement

NABPAC promotes good citizenship and encourages voluntarycontributions and participation in the political process by

educating and mobilizing NABPAC eligible individuals to supportcandidates for political office who champion broadcast issues.

The National Association of Broadcasters Political Action Committee (NABPAC) is an arm of NAB’s advocacy efforts. The broadcasting industry is better served when elected officials understand our issues.

There is strength in numbers, but we have many legislative challenges ahead and strong competitors. Through a unified voice, we can successfully ensure a vibrant future for broadcasters.

who we support

NABPAC is independent and bipartisan. Candidates and incumbents supported by the PAC are not evaluated on their political party affiliation. One hundred percent of contributions go directly to candidates.

Among the requirements members of Congress must fulfill in order to gain NABPAC’s support are:

• Complete a questionnaire and interview

• Demonstrate understanding of the broadcast industry

• Proven legislative record

Broadcasters’ successes in 2013:

• Emphasized the importance of bipartisan congressional support of the Local Radio Freedom Act, which recognizes radio’s vital role in every community and opposes a performance fee on local stations.

• Continued to engage with the FCC to ensure that as it creates the rules to conduct the spectrum incentive auction, it implements the law as Congress intended and protects broadcasters who choose to remain on the air.

• Educated policymakers that the revenue stream provided by retransmission consent negotiations enables local stations to serve their communities, and Congress should not intervene in private marketplace negotiations.

FAQ

How do I learn more about NABPAC?

• Contact our staff at (202)-429-5314

• Have a current signed prior authorization on record

What is “Prior Authorization” and why do I/my company need to sign a form?

• The Federal Election Commission (FEC) requires our political

action committee to obtain written approval from members

before it may solicit and accept contributions from employees

of the member company.

• Granting prior approval does not obligate the company or its

employees to support the PAC – it simply gives us permission

to communicate in much greater detail about the PAC.

Can anyone from the company sign the Prior Approval form?

Prior approval may be granted by anyone so authorized by the

company. This includes the company’s chief executive or the

owner/principal, but may also include those designated to

represent the company.
