Activities and Education

Carolyn’s Corner Book Club

The Book Club is currently reading and will meet and discuss The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See on December 7 and 21 at 10 a.m. in the conference room on the second floor. The book club meets on the first and third Thursday of each month and is open to all. The Book Club will not meet in January. The February readings will be The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins discussed on February 1 and Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie discussed on February 15. February 1 – Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins (2015). For Rachel every day’s commute is the same. She takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost. And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

February 15 – Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express (1934). Just after midnight, the famous Orient Express is stopped in its tracks by a snowdrift. By morning, the millionaire Samuel Ratchett lies dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, his door locked from the inside. One of his fellow passengers must be the murderer. Isolated by the storm and with a killer in their midst, detective Hercule Poirot must find the killer amongst a dozen of the dead man's enemies, before the murderer decides to strike again.
