Inspired by everything from nature to Baroque and Art Deco, Suzy O’Rourke began her millinery label in 2003 to focus on designing detailed and luxurious pieces, while incorporating creative sculptural elements. Crafting couture, bridal and ready-to-wear collections, her pieces are bold, ornate and often playful, with her latest range incorporating delicate netting and leopard print. Regardless, O’Rourke’s headpieces are always inventive, exploring the boundaries of form, texture and art.

Toni Maticevski studied fashion at RMIT University and graduated with First Class Honours. After working with Donna Karan in New York and Cerruti in Paris, Maticevski returned to Melbourne and launched his label in 1999. A technical genius, his designs feature intricate draping and sleek tailoring, with show-stopping gowns and ready-to-wear collections. Since launching his label, Maticevski has retained a strong hands-on approach to his work by draping and sampling designs himself. The result is a mix of high-end glamour coupled with complex structural and classic silhouettes.

B I A N C A S P E N D E R Fashion design runs in the family. With Carla Zampatti for a mother, it’s no surprise to see Bianca Spender’s classic style and independent spirit influence her designs. A K I R ADesigner Akira Isogawa famously wears only black – probably because he infuses such vivacious colour into his collections.Born in Kyoto, Japan, he moved to Australia in 1986 to study fashion at the Sydney Institute of Technology, launching his eponymous line in 1998. Since then, Akira has become one of the country’s lauded (and awarded) designers, famous for his delicately handmade garments, which are all inspired by contemporary Japanese design, whether in their structured cuts, ornate prints or luscious hit of colour.

C O L L E T T E D I N N I G A NCollette Dinnigan is best known for bridal wear and flirty, feminine gowns fit for the red carpet. Recently expanding operations into Melbourne, Pride Models represents several emerging stars who are relocating to New York in 2014, including Megan Irwin, Tori Trigg, Madison Stubbington and Amelia Schubert - all of whom walked at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival last month and are co-signed to world-leading agency, IMG.

With recent model placements in Paris, New York, Milan, London, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Cape Town and Auckland, the current stable of models includes not only well-established talent but an exciting pool of fresh faces in development. Ones to watch are Mollie Thorn, Claudia Reed and the captivating Brigitte Murphy. The not-so-secret projects for 2014 are 16-year-olds Laura deWit and Adele McKeen, in addition to last year’s Model Search winner Emily Pitta, all of whom are now signed with IMG.

Intrinsic Adelaide nightclub Zhivago has captured its stronghold on Adelaide youth culture, style, fashion and nightlife by creating Zhivago TV; an online media company that produces episodes on events relevant to Zhivago’s demographic. Showcasing the colourful personalities, entertainers and identities of Adelaide, Australia and afar, Zhivago TV aims to “capture culture in a clip” through their light-hearted reporting approach. Given A Night Of Fashion’s prevalence in Adelaide’s culture and nightlife, it seems only fitting that Zhivago TV should become involved as a voice of the Adelaide’s vibrant youth culture.
