• Telenor R&I and Radionor havedeveloped the world’s first embeddedWLAN radio on the SIM
• Embedded radio and adaptiveantenna on standard size GSM/UMTSSIM card
• 802.11b compliant
• Capable of supporting other radiostandards
• Min. 10 m range demonstrated withcard in any phone. (Max 80 m)

• WLANSIM and NFC is not in competition
• Serve different needs, due to different operation ranges.
• Both technologies can be served and co-exist on a SIM
• Combining both technologies will generate a richer userexperience.

• The first version has been tested in fourdifferent demonstrators
• Nobel Centre in Oslo, Archbishop’s Palace inTrondheim, Telenor Expo in Oslo and Telenor R&Isite in Trondheim (2005 -2006)
• The technology originated from indoor WLANpositioning and is also a key enabler in twocommercial settings

• Experimenting with a rich SIM platform to generate newrevenue generating services

• It is necessary to turn the SIM card from a cost device to arevenue generating service platform

• The UICC is technologically becoming a rich serviceplatform
• The UICC is still a removable security module
• and with WLANSIM a possibly of creating a managed sensornetwork.
• And with WLANSIM a fully TCP/IP based wireless sensor networkto create user friendly services.
