Will you let me be your servant,Let me be as Christ to you;

Pray that I may have the grace to Let you be my servant, too.

We are pilgrims on a journey,We are trav’lers on the road;

We are here to help each other Walk the mile and bear the load.

I will weep when you are weeping;When you laugh, I’ll laugh with you.

I will share your joy and sorrow‘Till we’ve seen this journey through.

Will you let me be your servant,Let me be as Christ to you;

Pray that I may have the grace to Let you be my servant, too.

Blessing the Space Between Us

Gathering Prayer Rev. Gloria Roach Thomas Pastoral Care and Visitation I AM the good shepherd(the one who tends us,guides us into pastures,who recognises the sounds of our names).

I AM the good shepherd(the one who bends to heal ustravels through the deepest valleys with uswho give up everything for us all).

I AM the good shepherd(the one whose rod and staff comfort uswhose strength and love holds uswhose cup of love runneth over).

I AM the good shepherdand we will dwellin the house of the Lordforever

Creator God and Holy Shepherd,We gather hereAs Your PeopleFill us with Your lovefor Your world.

The Scripture John 10:11-18 (The Message) Ken Lippin

“I am the Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd puts the sheep before himself, sacrifices himself if necessary. A hired man is not a real shepherd. The sheep mean nothing to him. He sees a wolf come and runs for it, leaving the sheep to be ravaged and scattered by the wolf. He’s only in it for the money. The sheep don’t matter to him. “I am the Good Shepherd. I know my own sheep and my own sheep know me. In the same way, the Father knows me and I know the Father. I put the sheep before myself, sacrificing myself if necessary. You need to know that I have other sheep in addition to those in this pen. I need to gather and bring them, too. They’ll also recognize my voice. Then it will be one flock, one Shepherd. This is why the Father loves me: because I freely lay down my life. And so I am free to take it up again. No one takes it from me. I lay it down of my own free will. I have the right to lay it down; I also have the right to take it up again. I received this authority personally from my Father.” The word of God for the people of God,Thanks be to God.

Song The Lord is My Shepherd Steven Hobert

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

The pastures are fresh where you give me rest;Calm waters lift up my soul.

You lead me on paths that are righteous and good;You give me comfort and cheer.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Though I am brought down to the valley deep,No evil great will I fear;

My cup overflows with your mercy and love:With blessings great am I fed.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Today and for all of my days to comeGoodness and love follow me,

And now I will dwell in the house of the LordAs long as life there shall be.

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.

Prayers of the People Rev. Gloria Roach Thomas

Companion God, we hear the pain of our world and pray —for all for whom this new day is the beginning of life;for all who face new ventures and challenges;for the people engulfed by loneliness, despair or grief;for all who feel cast off from your presence;for all who are walled in by circumstance and whose lives are exhausted;for all this day who will find their rest in you.In your mercy, journey with all whom we name in word and silence …

Song Here I Am Lord Steven Hobert

I, the Lord of sea and skyI have heard my people cry

All who dwell in dark and sinMy hand will save

I who made the stars of nightI will make their darkness brightWho will bear my light to them?

Whom shall I send?

Here I am, LordIs it I, Lord?

I have heard You calling in the nightI will go, LordIf You lead me

I will hold Your people in my heart

I, the Lord of snow and rainI have borne my people’s pain

I have wept for love of themThey turn away

I will break their heart of stone, Give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak my word to them.Whom shall I send?

Here I am, LordIs it I, Lord?

I have heard You calling in the nightI will go, LordIf You lead me

I will hold Your people in my heartI will hold Your people in my heart

Prayers for Our CommunityFor the witnesses, attorneys,

court officers, judge, and jury who held the sacred task of the trial of Derek Chauvin for our community; may they experience healing and peace. May our common life be one of grace as we work to restore faith in the possibility of justice for all. We give thanks for all people of goodwill who offer themselves for transformation and healing in Minneapolis.

For Daunte Wright, whose funeral was April 22, may his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him; may his family be comforted in their grief. May our community grief lead us to growth, and our sorrow lead us to systemic change.

For Mayor Mike Elliott and the civic and community leaders of Brooklyn Center; may have courage, compassion, wisdom, and strength.

Prayers for Our NationFor the city of Indianapolis,

healing after the deaths of eight persons on April 15, in the third multiperson shooting in 2021.

For those who seek asylum at our southern border, especially unaccompanied children, may they be safe and unharmed.

For the city of Chicago, healing after the death of 13-year old Adam Toledo by police.

For the city of Columbus, Ohio, healing after death of 16-year old Ma’Khia Bryant April 20.

Our Strategic Initiatives1. We will grow in love of God and neighbor by intentionally building a multi-racial beloved community inside and outside our church walls, working to advance racial, economic, and environmental justice for all.

2. We will reach and welcome new people by expanding the ways in which we communicate what God is doing through the ministries of Hennepin.

3. We will heal a broken world by working to undo the harm that church and society have caused in exclusion and discrimination through systemic forms of oppression against all marginalized people including the LGBTQ community.
