Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Lord, Welcome!

Thanks for joining the Sacred Heart worshiping community as we celebrate our Eucharistic Liturgy for the 13

th

Sunday in Ordinary Time. We are blessed through your prayerful participation. May the Risen Lord nourish our discipleship in the Word proclaimed and in the Eucharist we celebrate. The call to discipleship is prominent in today’s Scripture readings. Elisha is called by the Lord to succeed Elijah, in the Book of Kings. In our Gospel, Jesus encounters three potential disciples. In Jesus’ conversation with them, he speaks of the serious nature of discipleship. In our Parish we are blessed through the ministry of those who have answered the call to be Deacon. I welcome Bill Williams to our Parish Staff. Bill has been assigned to Sacred Heart Parish, effective July 1

st. Deacon Bill’s ministry will include baptizing,

preaching, Communion calls, prayer services and adult faith formation. I am thankful for the ministry of Deacon Tom Woods and Deacon John Suplee who have assisted me over my years as Pastor. Deacon Tom will “retire” officially on July 1, with “retire” meaning he will cut back a little. Tom will remain a Deacon on our Parish Staff and still be involved with Pre-Cana, Pre-Jordan, CYO and Parish liturgical services. Thanks Tom! I appreciate your willingness to continue with your ministry as Deacon at Sacred Heart. The call to serve goes beyond the ministry of Deacon. It’s a call that each of us has through Baptism. Our discipleship in Christ is lived out in service to others. May each of us find a place for service as we attempt to be faithful disciples of Christ! Happy 4

th of July!

God bless,

Fr. McKee

Fortnight for Freedom - through Independence Day,

July 4. According to the Philadelphia Archdiocese and the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, this year’s Fortnight has great importance because: Same-sex Marriage: The Supreme Court’s ruling is anticipated during the Fortnight. HHS Mandate: The final rule is expected on Aug 1. Religious Freedom: Both here and abroad, numerous religious freedom issues face our world such as immigration, adoption and freely practicing your faith. PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS LIBERTY The Second Fortnight for Freedom June 21-July 4, 2013

Almighty God, Father of all nations, for freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus. We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights, justice and common good. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties. By your grace may we have the courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land. We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness, and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with whom you live and reign, One God, forever

and ever. AMEN

“We work best for religious freedom by first opening our hearts to God’s will instead of our own; and loving our country and our Church; and renewing the witness of the Church with the zeal and purity and obedience of our own lives. That freedom, that joy, no one can ever take from us!” Archbishop Charles Chaput
