Student FinanceHow much will university cost and how will you pay for it? Get apractical insight into financial support, such as student loans and grants,how and when to apply for funding, and extra sources of income. Wewill also discuss the scholarships and bursaries available to USWstudents.

Campus tourOur friendly student ambassadors will take you on a tour of NewportCity Campus. This is your chance to see all our facilities and askquestions about day-to-day university life. Tours usually take around 20minutes and you can book your place on these in the Information Fair.

Accommodation tourTake a look at the accommodation we have available and find out aboutlife in Halls of Residence from a student point of view. If you’d like to visitthe Halls, which are right next to the campus, please book your place ona tour in the Information Fair. Tours take around 30 minutes. There willalso be a member of staff available to answer your accommodationqueries at the Information Fair throughout the Open Day.

Both tours are available from 8.30am, so if you want to go on eitherbefore your Welcome talk, come along for the first tour of the day.

There’s no parking at the campus but parking in the Kingsway Centre isdiscounted by 20% for students and visitors to the University. Just make sureyou validate your ticket at reception.

The Kingsway Centre car park is right opposite the campus, on the other sideof Usk Way. The postcode for the car park is NP20 1EU. For more information,visit: www.kingswaycentre.com

If you’re travelling by train, Newport is the station closest to our City Campus– just a five minute walk away. You can use the map on the back of this programme to make your way here.

Registrationtakes place at specific times, so you need to check the planner (pages 4 and 5)to see what time to register for your subject. To avoid queues at registration, don’t forget to bring the letter we sent you that has your QR code on it.

Help during the Open DayIf you have any questions during the day, simply ask a member of staff or a student ambassador – they’re here to help you. There’s first aid available,so ask a member of staff if you need it. If there’s an emergency, alert thenearest member of staff or call the emergency services on 999.

Newport offers an excellent quality of life, on the doorstep of someof the most beautiful parts of the country such as the Vale of Usk,the Wye Valley, the Heritage Coast and the Brecon Beacons NationalPark. The area has a wealth of heritage attractions, including RomanCaerleon – the amphitheatre, baths, barracks and National RomanLegion Museum, Tredegar House, Newport Transporter Bridge,Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle to name just a few. We alsohave the Newport Food Festival and our own jazz festival as well.

Newport sport5Newport offers a wide range of activities and world-class facilitiesfor sports enthusiasts. Whatever your interests, the city offers plentyof ways to keep active and motivated throughout your studies. TheNewport Centre, with its refurbished gym, is just opposite thecampus and offers a great student membership deal, along with anumber of other local fitness centres. You can also enjoy weeklysport with Dragons Rugby and Newport County FC, both withinwalking distance of the campus. The Newport International SportVillage is also home to the Wales National Velodrome. The facility isused regularly for national and international competitions, and isopen for people to go and give it a try! The Newport Marathonstarts and finishes just outside our campus.

Things to do3You don’t have to go far to find culture and entertainment inNewport. The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre is right next to thecampus and offers comedy, live music and film screenings. Just ashort walk into town, you’ll reach the city’s old Market Quarter.Newly redeveloped, it combines Newport’s history withcontemporary design, and there are lots of shops, cafes and bars foryou to enjoy too.

Local music venues4Newport has a long tradition of live music, with many top bandsplaying in the city en route to making it big. Take a look at our toppicks of venues to make sure you visit:• Warehouse 54 – showcases the best new local talent• Le Pub – a Newport institution! Has been hosting music events in the city for 20 years

• Riverside Tavern – great music, cheap drinks and friendly people• Bassment Live – the main place to be on Friday and Saturday nights

Friars Walk2Friars Walk is a £100m retail development right opposite NewportCity Campus. As well as an eight-screen cinema, you’ll be able toenjoy food with friends at Nandos, Gourmet Burger Kitchen orChiquito, and enjoy a spot of retail therapy in any of the 75 shops,including New Look, River Island and Topshop. So whether you arelooking for a part-time job in term-time or somewhere to socialisewith your friends, it will all be right on your doorstep.
