*1978Daniel “Dan” Bricklin, a computer

science graduate Massachusetts Institute Of Technology, thought of creating all interactive calculator to help him analyze a spreadsheet of his report. He began developing the first version of the program and later sought the help of Robert “Rob” Frankston, also an MIT graduate, to improve and expand the program. They named the program, VisiCalc (Visible Calculator)

Bricklin and Frankston, founded the Company Software Art, Inc. to produce and enhance VisiCalc. Daniel Fystra also an MIT. VisiCalc, was release to the public by Fystra company personal soft wear later renamed VisiCorp. Bricklin was recognize as the Father of Electronic Spreadsheet, while Frankston the Co-Creator of Spreadsheet.

Super Calc, the first computers using the CP/M (Control Program/Monitor) operating system , was introduced.

The DIF (Data Interchange Format) was developed. This format allowed spreadsheet data to be share and imported into other program.

Multiplan, the first spreadsheet to handle multiple spreadsheet was release by Microsoft. This program ran on more kinds of computer than any other spreadsheet program.

Context MBA, the first spreadsheet program that handle 5 tasks(spreadsheet, graphs, data bases, word processing and telecommunication) was invented and released by Context Management System.

*1983Lotus 1-2-3, the spreadsheet that handle

3 tasks (spreadsheet, graphs, data bases) was released by Lotus Development Corporation which was founded by Michell “Mitch” Kapor. It was designed by Kapor and Johnathan Sachs.

Liza Calc, the first program that use a mouse, was released by Apple Com, Inc.

Apple Work GS, a spreadsheet program that handle 7 tasks (spreadsheet, graphs, data bases, word processing, telecommunication, graphic painting, and desktop publishing) was released by Claris.

Excel, the spreadsheet program that can handle 3 tasks (spreadsheet, graphs, and databases) in a graphical environment, was released by Microsoft Corp.

Quatrro Pro, another spreadsheet program that has a combined features of Lotus 1-2-3 and Excel was developed by Corel Corporation.
