HOW TO CREATE A STENCIL CUTOUT

CREATING STENCILS

• Stencils can be

used for:

• Art projects

• Painting projects

• T-shirt iron on

transfers

STEP 1

• Insert a picture into a blank slide. Any digital photo will do.

STEP 2

• Go to the Picture Tools Tab, Corrections and Sharpen by

50%

STEP 3

• Go to the Picture Tools Tab, Colors Menu and Make the

picture black and white.

STEP 4

• Go to the Picture Tools

Tab, Artistic Effects menu

and Apply Cutout effect, 3

layers.

STEP 5: PRINT AND CUT!

• You have 4 layers: white, black, light gray and dark

gray. Print out 5 copies of this image. Cut each

color out of the copies.

• You can print on transparencies for wall stenciling,

or on transfer paper for tee-shirts (only one copy

needed), or print on paper for shapes for art

projects (see example of duct tape art project with

layers on next slide…)

STEP 1

• Insert a picture into the blank slide, and using the Picture

Tools Tab, choose Remove Background so you end up

with something like this:

STEP 2:

• Go to the Picture Tools Tab, Corrections and Choose

Brightness -40% and Contrast +40%

• Go to the Picture Tools Tab and choose Color and Black

STEP 1

• Find your computer’s resolution.

• Right-Click on your desktop.

• In Windows 7 systems, click “Screen

Resolution”.

• Write this down.

STEP 2

• Convert pixels to inches online.

• You’ve written down your screen resolution,

now go online and convert to inches to modify

the slide width and height.

• Write down these numbers.

STEP 3

• Change your slide size in PowerPoint.

• Go to the Design menu.

• Choose Slide Setup

• Enter the numbers you just wrote down from

the pixels to inches conversion online.

STEP 4

• Design your background.

• Insert any clipart or photos, text or WordArt

• Adjust for your own computer. (I.E., move

words to the right of the screen if all your

computer icons are to the left, for example.)

• See example, next slide.

STEP 5 & 6

• Group & Save

• Select All and Group Everything.

• Right-click on the Grouping.

• Save as a Picture to Your Desktop.

LAST STEP

• Put the new background on your desktop.

• Right Click on the Picture you saved to your

desktop.

• Choose Set As Desktop Background.
