There is repetition here, but each figure is unique. Take each figure as it is in this picture only, with lines crossing and shades and hues varying. Thinking that each of these figures is identical reveals the brain's effect on perception. In the mind, the figures can be perceived as being exactly the same - this in spite of all the commotion.

A warm hue also fades the large central portion, adding liveliness by color and at the same time muting and shading.

High energy just barely enclosed within a plain box. Bright lines add to the action and cross the boundary between excitement and the dull, even implying existence outside the composition.

Slan

Spirals are typically circular. Here is one example with sharp angles throughout. The spirit is the same while the means are surprising. A thin border adds context to the otherwise free-floating shape.

Blue Stretch

Stormy weather comes to mind... Turmoil resides behind a sheet of rain and the Sun is obscured.

Complementary hues appear to blend, but blending is actually with the gray in between!
