TOGETHER WE LEARN
Preparing Our Students For Their Futures! Franklin Public School would be one of the few schools in NSW if not Australia, where
technology is embedded across the entire school with the ratio of devices to students
close to 1:1. Students are fortunate enough to use iPads, laptops and Chromebooks to
support them in their learning. In addition to these wonderful devices, Stage 3 have
begun a rollout of Robotics’ spearheaded by Mr Roddy.
Students have the opportunity to program their devices to follow commands and
codes. This new technology ensures students at Franklin Public School have an
immense and enriched experience as well as developing problem solving and
collaboration skills.
Carols by Candlelight
What: All Franklin students are encouraged to represent our school by singing
in the Carols by Candlelight.
When: Sunday 9th of December. Students are asked to meet Franklin staff at
the side of the stage at 6:50 p.m.
Where: Richmond Park
Attire: Students are encouraged to wear Christmas clothes and a
Santa hat.

Franklin Visits Little Possums!
Last week a group of Kindergarten students visited the pre-school children at Little Possums. They were the
official panel in a “Kindergarten Forum”. The pre-school children were able to ask a variety of questions for the
Kindergarten students to answer regarding their impeding start to school in 2019. The Franklin Kindergarten
students were able to discuss what ‘big school’ is like and what they should anticipate in their first few weeks at
school.
While the students were visiting, they were also able to showcase the ‘Dot Talks’ they have been involved in in
their classrooms under the Building Numeracy Leadership Initiative. A group of carefully arranged dots were
quickly shown and the students were able to state how many dots were on the card by subitising. Subitising is the
ability to immediately recognise the quantity of a small number of objects without counting. This is an important
skill in developing number sense, where the students are learning to verbalise their thinking and realise that there
are multiple solutions to a problem.
We are very proud at Franklin of the gains that the Kindergarten students are making as they become efficient mathematicians who persevere when solving a problem, even if they reach the point where they have developed a ‘sweaty brain’!
