On Repentance
In our 21st century culture, the notion of repentance
seems to be for many, something medieval with a sense of
groveling and asking oneself; ' I'm really not that bad.' That
is a false noting to what repentance is really about. God
doesn't need our prayers and repentance. If God doesn't
need this, then it is important for us. Repentance arises
from the fact that we are created by God and are made for
Him. Sin damages this relationship which needs to be
mended and one of these prerequisites is repentance. We
feel we've done nothing wrong and see no need for
repentance. We always have to examine our conscience on
who we are and what we have done. We must examine the
state of our souls as the saints do in regards to love of
God and neighbor. Then we see the things that warrant
repentance on our part. In his Confessions, St Augustine reminds us; "Our hearts were made for You O Lord, and they are restless until they rest in You." We were made by God and for God who loved us first. On our part we respond, but realize we are weak, limited creatures that make God's presence seem week and sporadic. We don't love God in a deep manner and trust more in our senses which are based on experience. Our prayer becomes sporadic and dull and we become lukewarm and abandon prayer and God altogether. We enjoy being with people we love, our spouse, friends and continually want to be with them. It should be the same attitude towards God. When Jesus ascended to heaven. He didn't just leave us a set of rules and sayings and fly off. He left us His Church and the Sacraments especially Confession and the Holy Eucharist - as means (cont. on pg. 3)

of our sanctification and especially His presence the Holy Eucharist through which He gives us is His very self. We can talk about God, religion and prayer, but do we believe and live accordingly? Are we aware of God and His involvement in our lives? Do we attend Liturgy frequently and take advantage of the Sacrament of Confession to express our repentance and receive forgiveness of our sins? We look at our society that is changing traditional marriage, kills innocent unborn children and acts according to the prevailing temporary culture. Through the sin of pride we have become our own idol, and our pleasures and creature comforts have become our own gods. Even with our needs being provided for either by our own resources or the state's, our wealth and prestige, we are not happy, something is lacking, something is wrong in our lives. We have to examine our souls in depth and see what we are truly like. We need to see what is ailing us in order to be cured. This realization should bring us to repentance which cleans the lens through which we see ourselves. It is through the lens created by tears of repentance that we see Christ the most clearly. We have to love God, have faith and trust in Him. Only God can restore us (Lamentations 5; 21), but we have to get to know or reacquaint ourselves with the God who loves us. How can we know someone we don't love, and how can we love someone we don't know? In order to know Him we must repent and pray to change our view and direction in life. Humility and repentance are not false morbid self-abasement, but self-knowledge, seeing the state we are truly in and what we can become with God's mercy and forgiveness. We are greatly loved by God who loves us for nothing on our part because He is love (1 John 4; 8). Our tears of repentance are those of sorrow, but they are mingled as well with tears of joy. In spite of our smallness, in spite of our sins, in spite of our neglect of God, He still loves us and in this lies all our hope.
Fish Fry and Pyrohy Preparation Schedule:
Tuesday, March 15th at 9:00am, we will be preparing the potatoes, onions, etc. for the pyrohy.
Wednesday, March 16th at 9:00am, we will be making the pyrohy.
Please — if you can, bring in baked goods for our pastry table during the fish fry. Also, we will need help in setting-up before and tearing down after the Fish Fry.
Please, if you can spare some time, it would be greatly appreciated.
Our Fish Fry is our most successful fundraiser!

"LIFE'S BIG QUESTIONS" “Loving Father, help me to BECOME THE BEST VERSION OF MYSELF by seeking Your will and becoming a living example of Your love in the world. Open
my heart to the areas of my life that need change, in order for me to carry out the mission and experience the joy You have imag-ined for my life.” Excerpt from “Dynamic Catholic Prayer” featured in Decision Point. Attention parents of our parish youth! If the above prayer touched your heart, please consider having your teenager (13-18 years of age) take part in Decision Point. Decision Point is a program currently being run in our parish Youth Group to enlighten and educate teens about living our Catholic faith. To see what Decision Point is all about, go to http://dynamiccatholic.com/confirmation/view-program/ and watch the video titled “Navigation” from session one. Then, please consider bringing your teen(s) to attend one of our Youth Group sessions. They are currently being held on Sundays at 10:30 am - 11:30 am in the parish hall (prior to the 12:00pm liturgy). Please contact our Youth Group facilitator, Katryna Czemerys, at [email protected] for more information. With enough interest in this program, we hope to expand our Youth Group and keep our parish thriving. This endeavor is being supported by our St. Josaphat Council #8441 of the Knights of Columbus. Please consider it!

TRE ORE – The Seven Last Words of Christ
The “Three Hours Agony” or Tre Ore is a liturgical service held on Good Friday from noon to 3 o’clock to commemorate the Pas-sion of Christ. Specifically, it refers to the three hours that Jesus hung on the Cross and includes a series of homilies on the seven last words of Christ. Father Barron was invited by Cardinal Timothy Dolan to preside over the Tre Ore service at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, and the content of his presentation is being featured here. Come and listen. March 15 – The First, Second & Third Words First: Father, forgive them, they know not what they do. Second: Today you will be with me in Paradise. Third: Woman, behold your son. Behold your mother. March 22 – The Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, & Seventh Words Fourth: My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? Fifth: I thirst! Sixth: Father, into your hands I commend my spirit. Seventh: It is finished.
