I can’t believe it, I go away for a week holiday, and while I am away, an elec- tion is called. I didn’t find out about it until the day after, how inconsiderate! Here we go again friends, the election merry-go-round is with us, and we are once more asked to choose the people that we want to direct our country for the next three years. We are already being bombarded with advertising that de- grades the image of those who would be Prime Minister. I was watching the other night an ad that portrayed Tony Abbot as being a criminal with what can only be described as a police mug shot being used as a visual prop. So what do we do, whom do we vote for? The view as long as I can remember that The Salvation Army has taken as far as politics is concerned is “Apolitical”, (Not political). In other words The Sal- vation Army stands clear of giving ad- vice of which party would be the better option as far as the Christian faith is con- cerned. Hmmm, I think (I could be wrong) this stems from a statement that was made a long time ago that there should be a “separation of church and state”, a term coined by Thomas Jeffer- son in 1802. But this statement has noth- ing to do with the church giving advice Significance We plant the seed. Our reward is according to our labour We water with our tears of prayer and the teaching & living out of the Word. Our reward is according to our labour God makes it grow according to His purposes. He alone can do this God protects and makes it prosper.. We rejoice as we do our part with God and for God. to its members about which way to vote. This Statement by Jefferson was all about protecting the churches right to exist without interference from Government. These days the state- ment is turned upside down giving protection to the Government and taking rights away from the church. So in a sense, I am bound by my obli- gation as a representative of The Sal- vation Army to remain “apolitical” in what I publicly proclaim. So, I will not tell you who I think you should vote for or whom I am voting for. I will however as a representative of Jesus Christ share with you a few thoughts from the Word as to how you should consider voting. In 1 Kings 16:2 it says: "I lifted you up from the dust and made you leader of my people Israel, but you walked in the ways of Jeroboam and caused my people Israel to sin and to pro- voke me to anger by their sins” Life teaches us that a large percentage of the population will vote according to whom the candidates for PM is, not so much according to the policies of the party. Classic example of this is Kevin vs John in the last election. What about the Labor party dropped Kevin on his head for a more popular Julia Gillard. This leads us to the thought that whoever leads the coun- try as PM will influence the direction of the policies of the country. The reading above confirms this. God had raised up a king, King Baasha and because of his thoughts about life, politics and religion he led his people in a direction that was in dis- agreement with God and they sinned. I think in this election we have to be aware of the person who would be PM. Instead of saying they look like a good person, it’s good to have the fairer sex in charge, it’s good to have a man who appears real as the next PM, we need to look at what they stand for! Not their political soap- box, but who they are as a person, what they believe, what do their per- sonal convictions look in the light of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Are they a moral person, do they value life, love, and justice? Do they desire that the values of the kingdom, whether they know the bible or not, line up with their personal preferences? There needs to be some sincere prob- ing into the character of that person The Salvation Army Floreat

For our dear folk at Hollywood facingrelocation while the premises are beingrepaired after the hail storm.

Give thanks to God for:

For His mighty provision in our lives

and we should vote for one of the candi-dates parties based on how closely theirviews match with God’s views ex-pressed through His Word whether welike the individual or not.

Now for those who actually base theirvotes on the policies that are put for-ward. Last election a large percentage ofChristians voted for the Governmentaccording to the promises and policiesmade that they would get a better dealfinancially and in certain other ways. But the problem is they put to one sidethe blatant disregard that this politicalparty has for the life of unborn babies, the disregard for relationships in the tra-ditional and godly sense of one womanand one man and other moral issues. Forthem the bottom line came down to whatwas going to be of benefit to them. Thisfriends is cosmic treason against ourglorious and wonderful God. We choseaccording to who will give us the bestdeal financially, who will give us thebest deal for our health concerns, whowill give us the best deal for our work asif the person or the party that we are vot-ing for were God and could deliver. As Ithought about this my thoughts turned tothe question of whom exactly couldmake my life abundant financially, health wise and every other way.

The only answer I could came upwith is God. We voted according toour lust instead of voting accordingto who would best morally andjustly lead this country. And here isthe kicker. It is God who can see usthrough financially supplying allour need according to His riches inglory! It is God that holds life anddeath in His hands! He has the an-swer to every health need! It is Godwho has the answer to everyone oflife’s concerns! We don’t need to beconcerned with elementary stufflike this. We instead need to bestanding up for the infallible Wordof our God and voting in accor-dance to His righteousness. These are my thoughts anyhow. Inthe end, you will need to vote ac-cording to how you see the situa-tion. Just remember this one thingthough. We will all have to standbefore our great King and give andaccount. Think about it!

NOTHING HAPPENS BYACCIDENT….

If one day when you wake up,you would find on your bed abeautifully wrapped present withlovely bows, you would open itbefore even washing your face, curious about what is inside.Maybe what you find issomething you do not like verymuch, then you would put awaythe box wondering what to dowith the present.

But, if the next day you findanother present, you would openit also and if this time you findsomething inside that you likevery much – a memory fromsomeone that is far away; abeautiful clothing item that yousaw while window shopping; orjust a beautiful flower fromsomebody that remembered you…

This happens every day, but wedo not realise it….Everyday whenwe wake up, it is there, before us,a present sent to us by God….awhole day to use in the bestpossible way. Sometimes itcomes with problems, issues thatwe do not seem to be able to solve.Sometimes it comes with sadness, deception, even tears…. But othertimes it comes full of surprises, happiness, success andachievements.

What is important is that everyday we receive a present wrappedespecially for us while we slept. The next day we are presented thisbox with coloured bows, nomatter what the day
