Chris’ Weekly Spot
Welcome back everyone…..and welcome to our new students who are joining the
Atherton State High family this year. Hope you are all starting to settle in. For those of
you who don’t know me I am the school nurse, my name is Chris and my role is to
promote health and wellbeing within the school and, as well, provide support to
students. I am someone you can come and talk to, ask a question, grab some info, and
my office is the perfect place to grab some time out when you need it most. My office is
on the verandah in A block.
Well, first article for the year and it’s that time again…Love is in the air For
those of you who are ‘head over heels’, ‘in rapture’, ‘hopelessly devoted’ and for those of
you who admire and cherish someone close….. it is Valentine’s Day this Thursday.
Valentine’s Day, even with its excessive commercialism and somewhat dark beginnings,
is all about expressing our feelings of love and admiration for someone else. What about
you though….how about expressing some feelings of love and admiration for yourself……
some self-love!!!
Self-love is about focusing on self-worth. It is about letting go of those negative voices
inside your own head that might tell you that you’re not good enough, not lovable. It is
not about being vain or self-absorbed. It’s about being kind to yourself. It’s about
acceptance. It’s fully knowing, no matter what you do or neglect to do, that you’ll
always be true to who you are — no matter what. Sometimes a very hard thing to put
into practice.
We all have the ability to love ourselves. It’s innate, it’s self-protective. Think about it……
who do you spend the most time with? Yourself!! So you may as well treat yourself well
as you are in this relationship for the rest of your life. No hanging up the phone,
walking away, taking a holiday!!! You just need to remember, settle in, and believe it!!!
