PATRIOT REPORT CONGRATULATIONS, HA CLASS OF 2019!! Twenty-nine seniors walked across the stage at the Trotter Convention Center on Thursday, May 9th and became HA graduates and alumni! The Class of 2019 will be going in many different directions and pursuing many different dreams. They were offered over $ 2 million in scholarships that will help them as they continue their education at 14 different universities and colleges. Senior Walk ThroughA relatively new tradition at HA is for our Seniors to paradethrough the elementary hallways intheir caps & gowns. Theelementary students cheer forthese role models and know thatone day they will be taking thesesame steps! For the Seniors in thefar right photo, it was a return towhere they began school inKindergarten or 1st grade.

FACULTY, STAFF, STUDENTS & MORERETIREMENT RECOGNITION Mrs. Marilyn Fields and Mrs. CindyWamble were recently honored witha retirement reception. Mrs. Fieldshas taught music for 40+ years at HAand Mrs. Wamble has served as HAElementary Principal for the past 7years. Mrs. Wamble was also ateacher and administrator in theCMSD for many years. Early in hercareer she taught English at HA! In addition to teaching elementarymusic and private piano lessons, Mrs. Fields was also the director formany memorable HA eventsincluding num-erous high schoolmusicals, elemen-tary field days andmore! ANNUAL MEETING & SCHOOL BOARD NEWSAt the conclusion of the school's (Columbus Educational Foundation) AnnualMeeting in May, Headmaster Dr. Greg Carlyle thanked the school boardmembers who have completed their terms. They are: Trip Hairston, TommyHoward, Dr. Scott Jones and Louis Sharp. Dr. Carlyle presented a plaquein appreciation to members rotating off and also to Mrs. Robbie Upton whohas completed her term as School Board President (see photo). "We trulyappreciate the commitment and excellent work of HA's school boardmembers," said Dr. Carlyle.

Dr. Carlyle also welcomed new school board members Leah Ellis, JasonMcCoy, Leslie Singley, and Paige Spears. Following the annual meeting,the new school board held its first meeting. They were joined by Dr. ShaneBlanton, MAIS Executive Director, who provided school board training.

Sophomore Nick Hairston was therecipient of the Bill Walker Awardwhich is presented to a current LYLstudent who exemplifies dedication,positive attitude and hard workthroughout the LYL program! Theaward was presented at theColumbus Rotary Club's LYLLuncheon. Congratulations, Nick!

Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen Pageant

John Blanton, a HA Sophomore, takes aim at the NationalJunior Olympic Championships in Precision Air Rifle. Thiscompetition is 10 meter range, standing position, with 60 shotseach day over two days of competition. John shot a personalbest the second day of competition beating his previous bestscore by 4.3 points!

Evans Rhett Named 2nd Runner Up in this State Wide Competition

HA was well represented recently when 35 beautiful, smart andtalented young ladies from across the state competed inVicksburg for the title of Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen.

Sophomore Evans Rhett was a preliminary talent winner with hervocal performance of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow" from “TheWizard of Oz." She was also a preliminary winner in the on-stagequestion. She was selected 2nd Runner Up! Eighth grader Hailey Pushis was the youngest contestant in thetop ten. She was competing against high school sopho-moresand juniors. Hailey’s talent was an acro lyrical dance to “I WillAlways Love You” by Whitney Houston.

First Baseball Championship in School History

The 2019 Baseball Team has provided an exciting, history making season for HA as these Patriots claimedthe District, North State and State Championship titles! It was a perfect combination of hard work, talent,and team effort that provided family, friends and other fans with a year to remember. In its final game of theseason, the Patriots defeated Wayne Academy on the road to bring the title home! Congratulations to ourplayers and coaches!!

HA TENNIS TEAMS: 2019 STATE CHAMPS!

Congratulations to our HA Tennis Teams for winning 2019 state titles! Both the boys and the girls teams won Overall State Titles! Individual titles went to: Boys #2 Doubles: JonathanSwartz and Rocky Marcel; Girls #2 Doubles: Kendall Kelly and Emily Howard; Girls #2Singles: Elizabeth Nichols. We are so proud of these student athletes!!

Student athletes and sports teams were recognized fora great year with many awards and honors. Severalspecial awards were presented, including: LoresSharp, Sports Booster Scholarship Award; MoakGriffin, “Bo Simpson” Award; Lex Rogers, SportsBooster Scholarship Award; and Gigi Fields, “YandellHarris” Award.

Proffitt Wins MAIS State Track TitlesAt the recent MAIS State Track Meet, JuniorReuben Proffitt tied for 1st place in the high jumpat 6’. He also took 1st place in the triple jump with ajump of 43’5”. Wow! Congratulations, Reuben!! Weare so proud of you!! HA ALUMNI - IN THE NEWS

HA 1994 State Championship Runner Up Baseball Team - several members of this awesome Patriot team returnedto campus to throw out the ceremonial first pitch recently when the 2019 Patriots started their playoff run to win the2019 title. It was great having these alumni (and many of their parents!) return to campus to encourage andcheer on our current team!
