Speaking of Rima, I told her she could get a few words in here, and she chose “peanut putter.” My family always has a way of making me smile. The fact is, I’m not entirely sure what the future may hold, but with my family and friends, I know I will always be able to brave any obstacle I may encounter, and for that I thank you one last time. Among these are FBLA (president), newspaper (editor-in-chief), yearbook, TV production, National Honor Society, student government (senator), academic team and the BUGS mentoring program. Two of my fondest achievements are, becoming one of the first dual enrollment students to be inducted into Phi Theta Kappa, the college national honor society, and completing more than two years of my college education while in high school. I have accomplished many great things thanks to personal motivation, but these things are in the past. In order to start even greater achievements, I must first say goodbye to the past in order to pursue a better future. After leaving Bradford High School, I will be attending the University of Florida where I will be a junior in the Political Science Department. I plan on finishing my master’s degree at the University of Florida. After I have finished my master’s degree, I will attend law school. All of this is to prepare myself for a future political career. I wouldn’t have had the same opportunities without certain people. As a result I would like to formally thank my parents, Robert and Kathrine Shannon, for supporting me emotionally, physically, and of course financially. I would also like to thank my girlfriend, Carleigh Whitehead, for listening to me think out loud and for always standing beside me. I would like to thank my friends Kayleigh Harper and Brenda Garcia for helping me to learn to be myself and for teaching me to not take myself too seriously. I also extend my gratitude towards Karen and Steve Brown, who treat me like family and have always welcomed me into their home. Lastly, I extend my thanks to anyone who I may not have mentioned that deserves gratitude; this includes family and friends from the past and the present. Lastly I leave with this quote: “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” — Albus Dumbledore

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness,” and we call these times high school.

Charles Dickens’ words can sum up almost anyone’s high school career, and luckily I had an awesome group of people to help me through this adventure. I’d like to thank my mom for always being there for me, whether it’s helping me with physics or making me the best Arabic food ever; my dad for always giving me a challenge and reminding me to stop staring at my computer screen, especially when AP Exams were around the corner; and my three sisters, Rima, Dima and Jenin, who burst into my room making a silly face or dancing around to get me to take a break. Speaking of Rima, I told her she could get a few words in here, and she chose “peanut putter.” My family always has a way of making me smile.

I’d also like to thank all the teachers who have taught me and challenged me to do better, and always showed me a different perspective on anything that ranged to a piece of literature or calculus problem. Last, but certainly not least, are all the friends I have made throughout my life. No matter how stressed or sad I was they could always find a way to make me smile.

With my high school career coming to an end, I’m preparing to begin an education at the University of Florida, studying as a biomedical engineer, and hope to work in research as the thought of discovering something new has always been a dream of mine. The fact is, I’m not entirely sure what the future may hold, but with my family and friends, I know I will always be able to brave any obstacle I may encounter, and for that I thank you one last time.

And with that over I leave you with the words of J.D. Salinger: “I don’t exactly know what I mean by that, but I mean it.”

There comes a time in life when you realize that life isn’t always fair. Bad things happen to good people and good things happen to bad people. We must realize not to live our life in order to compare what we have with our neighbor. This year has proved this lifelong adage and has prepared me for the future.

Throughout high school I have experienced a majority of extra curricular activities.
