Change LivesElectrical engineering majors assist Dr. Premananda Indic in designing wearable biosensors to address life-threatening situations among infants and the mentally ill in rural areas. The research focuses on developing small inexpensive wearable sensors that monitor the vital signs of vulnerable people in rural areas where healthcare is not always readily accessible.

Transfer StudentsWe have established partnerships with community colleges across East Texas to facilitate a smooth transfer of credits to UT Tyler degree plans. Plus, we have academic advisors you can meet with to ensure you are on the right track to successfully complete your degree.

Admission requirements Whether you are a first-time freshman or transfer student, we want to ensure a smooth admissions process and get you on campus as soon as possible. Our admissions team is dedicated to making it easy for you and available to guide you through the process while answering any questions you may have.

NEW TRANSFER SCHOLARSHIPThis scholarship is specifically for students who have completed 30 college credit hours at time of admission and who have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. There is no scholarship application, but the deadline is May 1 to confirm intention to enroll.

Competitive AwardsPRESIDENTIAL FELLOWSHIPSFor incoming freshmen, UT Tyler awards full tuition, room and board, as well as books for a select group of high-achieving students with a minimum GPA of 3.75 or higher. This competitive fellowship is awarded by holistic review, so get your essay ready, practice your interview and remember to apply by December 1 to be eligible.

PATRIOT SCHOLARSHIPA competitive scholarship for first-time-in-college students who have at least a 3.5 GPA. Students can be awarded up to $5,000 and this scholarship has four years of total eligibility as long as renewal requirements are met. December 1 priority deadline, March 1 final deadline.

Academic Merit AwardsACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPFor first-time-in-college students ranked in the top 25% of their high school class and who have a minimum GPA of 3.0, UT Tyler offers the Academic Excellence Scholarship, which is $2,000 a year for four years.

VALEDICTORIAN & SALUTATORIAN Valedictorian scholarship is for full tuition, fees, books, room & board. Salutatorian is for full tuition and fees. Student must provide a high school transcript showing the student is a valedictorian or salutatorian of a high school in Smith County, or the cities of Longview or Palestine. Scholarship has 4 years of total eligibility as long as renewal requirements are met.

Need-Based ScholarshipREACH HIGHER SCHOLARSHIPThe Reach Higher Scholarship is for first-time-in-college students whose family income is under $80,000. Covers tuition and mandatory fees. Applicant must be a Texas resident and enrolled as a full-time student with 30 credit hours per year.

GrantsFEDERAL PELL GRANTSPell grants are available to undergrads who have not earned their first bachelor’s or professional degree. Amount based on financial need, renewable each semester, no deadline.

TEXAS GRANTSAvailable to undergraduates who reside in Texas. Amount based on financial need, renewable annually, no deadline.

*Based on 15 credit hours per semester, for Texas residents, standard room and meal plan for the 2020–21 academic year.
