Julia’s JournalWe hope you all enjoyed the festive period? The end of 2014 was a busy time for all at Daish’s with all the hotels fully booked for Christmas, Twixmas and New Year, with many groups enjoying the hospitality at the hotels too. We even had one guest propose to his partner at the Bournemouth Sands Hotel on Christmas Day – so it just shows you never know what a Daish’s Holiday has in store!

At Present Julia is at Daish’s Hotel in Shanklin, with nearly 90 group organisers and their partners on a familiarisation trip to see the newly refurbished hotel and some of the islands attractions.

Next weekend (17th/18th January) Julia will be in Northampton for the GTOA (Group Travel Organisers Association) AGM Meeting, where members will have a chance to meet the new board of Trustee Directors and have the AGM Meeting on Sunday.

The Daish’s team will also be at the annual Excursions show at the Alexandra Palace in London on Saturday 24th January. This one day show is really the highlight of the group travel year. If you want to register as a visitor, you can find more details at www.excursions.org.uk

While Julia is out and about Marcus and Aleksandra are manning the office in Bournemouth so you can contact them during office hours (9am-5.30pm) Monday to Friday.

2015 Familiarisation VisitsOur next familiarisation visits are at the Hotel Prince Regent for 3 nights from Friday 13th March and at the Bournemouth Sands Hotel from Friday 16th October – for £75pp. The price includes 3 nights half board accommodation, live nightly entertainment, excursions and added extras. Hotel ImprovementsDaish’s are continuing to invest in the hotels – with improvements being made to lift and rooms being re-decorated in the Russell Hotel, Weymouth. A new roof being put on the Claremont Hotel in Eastbourne. More rooms at the Devonshire being refurbished with new bathrooms etc. This is in addition to the coffee shop at the Bournemouth Sands hotel undergoing refurbishment and a new wet sauna that has been fitted at the Barrowfield Hotel in Newquay.

Isle of Wight Familiarisation VisitJulia spent a few days hosting nearly 90 group organisers and their partners at Daish’s Hotel, Shanklin from 6th January on a Best of British themed break. GTO’s met with Julia at our Bournemouth Sands Hotel and travelled on Daish’s coaches via Lymington to the island. The trip included two excursions to West Wight (IOW Pearl, the Needles, Yarmouth and Godshill) and East Wight (Ryde, Rosemary’s Vineyard and Newport). There was a small exhibition in the hotel of some of the island’s premium attractions including Visit Isle

of Wight, English Heritage, National Trust, Isle of Wight Zoo, the Island Heritage Service (Dinosaur Isle & Brading Roman Villa), Isle of Wight Steam Railway, the Spinnaker Tower and The Pass Magazine. There was a sales presentation by Julia, about Daish’s Hotels and group packages. All the group organisers commented on how the hotel has improved since the refurbishment was completed and how good the food and service were.

Group Travel Awards 2015Thanks to all the GTO’s who voted for us in the 2014 Group Travel Awards when we were winners of the 2014 award for “Most Friendly Hotel Chain”. New CoachesWith more continued investment in our fleet of coaches we welcomed 2 brand new coaches to the fleet, so we now have 20 coaches in total, continuing Daish’s commitment to improving our product. We have dispatched our oldest 3 vechicles and replaced them with newer models ensuring our fleet runs as green and environmentally friendly as possible.

Watch this space!!Hopefully by the time you read our next newsletter we will be able to announce that we have a new hotel – more details to follow!

New Entertainment at the Prince Regent, WeymouthIn addition to our hosted sequence and ballroom breaks with Pierre in the beautiful ballroom at the hotel, our regular evening entertainment will now have more bands and dancing music on a regular basis, so you can enjoy the ballroom to its full potential.

Well it’s been all go during the summer for the Daish’s Groups department!

Marcus joined the groups team in June, and we have had a record number of groups travelling with us in July and August including lots of bowls tours and company groups on summer breaks. But it was nice to take some time off to spend with my family and we enjoyed 5 days at the Barrowfield Hotel, Newquay as part of my holiday. Its great to see newly promoted Gavin at the helm as Manager, with his team. My children certainly enjoyed the kids club and the swimming pool, and I couldn’t get my husband out of the newly refurbished wet sauna either!

September is always busy too, with the remaining bowls tours to be finalised, and walking groups, historical societies, as well as retired employee groups and active retirement associations travelling, and getting ready for the arrival of the Tinsel and Turkey groups later in the year.

I exhibited at the Great for Groups North show at Old Trafford recently, which was a

busy show and I met lots of new group organisers. I’m going to the Group Leisure Awards and show soon, and Martin Jenkins will be at the Kentara holiday show for me on 4th October, whilst I am at the Devonshire Hotel, Torquay with our top GTO’s celebrating Daish’s 35th Anniversary. On the 17th November, I will be going to exhibit at Liverpool Cathedral with Steve Reed Tourism (www.stevereedtourism.co.uk).

It’s a busy time with the GTOA (Group Travel Organisers Association), as I am now a Trustee Director on the newly formed board, as well as sitting on marketing sub-committee and the committee of the Meridian Branch. For the Meridian Branch AGM, we are off to Lake Como for 2 nights in October following the AGM meeting at Gatwick.

Well it’s been all go during the summer for the Daish’s Groups department!
