Down 10 with less than three minutes to play, the Bears still had a chance when Elijah Bell hauled in a 60-yard pass and Quan Weaver finished things off with a 10-yard run. UPIKE got the quick stop on downs it needed, but with just 90 seconds on the clock, it couldn’t come up with a game-winning or tying drive. The last effort started promisingly with a 14-yard pass from Sani Warren to Austin Pray, followed by a 22-yard run from Weaver. But holding brought back the run and Warren came up just short of extending the drive with a 12-yard scramble on 4th and 16. UPIKE outgained Cumberland 510-456 and had five more first downs, but penalties did the Bears in. While the Bulldogs were called for just one on the day, UPIKE was flagged seven times for 71 yards. Campbellsville is coming off another huge win in its program history, topping then-No. 3 Faulkner (Ala.) on the road, making it two straight seasons the Tigers have topped a ranked Eagle team. Jacob Russell broke his own single-game passing record with six touchdown tosses, finishing the day hitting 30 of 53 for 379 yards. Jarrod Harrington caught 12 of those passes for 131 yards to tie the single-game record for receptions. Harrington finished with 375 all-purpose yards which broke Greg Fountain’s record at 314. Tyus Alcorn also tied a single-game record, hauling in three of the six Russell touchdowns. Also, Campbellsville had three fumble recoveries and four fumbles forced to break single-game records. Odd note of the game: so many Hunters on the Campbellsville two-deep. Not only is former NFL quarterback Hunter Cantwell on the Tigers’ coaching staff, the team has also had success recruiting players with his same first name. Three Hunters, a quarterback, tight end and offensive lineman are listed on the depth chart. UPIKE’s national statistic rankings: Pass Defense (6th, 143 ypg), Fourth-Down % (13th, 64.3 percent), Penalty Yards Per Game (19th, 80.3 ypg), Rushing Offense (22nd, 201 ypg), Total De- fense (23rd, 337.3 ypg), First Downs (24th, 22.7 per game), Quan Weaver (11th, rushing ypg (106)), Sani Warren (24th, passing ypg (215.2)). Containing Jacob Russell will be a tall task for the UPIKE defense. The senior signal caller is ranked third in the NAIA in passing yards per game at 334.8 and is first in total offense per contest at 371.6 as he is rushing for nearly 40 yards per game as well. Russell has thrown 17 touchdown passes with four interceptions and has a game high of 393 passing yards in the season-opening loss at home against Cumberlands. 2015 UPIKE Bears Football
