• 1880: Kentucky General Assembly established a Normal School for the training of teachers at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky
• 1908: Department of Education established, replacing the Normal School• 1909: Named changed to the Teachers’ College• 1911: A School of Education created in the College of Arts and Sciences• 1923: The College of Education created with a four-year course of study• 1924: First bachelor’s degree awarded• 1930: The College of Education Building (later renamed the William S. Taylor
Building) was completed• 1949: First scholarship was instituted in the honor of the College’s first dean,

• 1954: College of Education among first to receive accreditation from
and become a founding member of the National Council for
Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
• 1964: Frank G. Dickey Hall was dedicated
• 1972: The College of Education became a member of the
Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching
• 1991: Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative recruited to college
• 1998: College of Education celebrates 75th anniversary
• 1998: Collaborative Center for Literacy Development established by
Senate Bill 164
• 1999: First Endowed Chair established
• 2004: First Endowed Professorship established
• 2010: Kentucky P20 Innovation Lab created

What is the Kentucky P20 Innovation Lab?
Kentucky Focuses squarely on education issues in the Commonwealth
P20 Targets learning at the pre-school through graduate education levels and into the workforce
Innovation Generates next-generation ideas and finds ways to successfully apply them in practice. This way of thinking transforms the UK College of Education’s teaching, research, and service into learning, innovation, and engagement.
