SPECTATOR INFORMATIONAll Westminster women’s basketball home games are played at the Behnken Field House

in the Dolores Dore Eccles Health, Wellness, and Athletic Center on the campus of

Westminster College. Doors open one hour prior to the start of the game. The spectator

entrance is located on the west side of the facility. Seating is all general admission, and

there is NO outside food and drinks allowed in the facility.

TICKET INFORMATIONTickets are required for entry into the Behnken Field House. You can purchase tickets in

advance by calling 801.832.2344 or purchase them the day of the game as you enter the

facility.

WHAT IS A GRIFFIN?The Griffin is a legendary creature with the head, beak, and

wings of an eagle, the body of a lion, and occasionally, the

tail of a serpent or scorpion. Its origin lies somewhere in the

Middle East where it is found in the paintings and sculptures

of the ancient Babylonians, Assyrians, and Persians. In Greek

mythology, they took gold from the stream Arimaspias and,

neighbors of the Hyperboreans, they belonged to Zeus. The

later Romans used them for decoration and, even in Christian

times, the Griffin motif often appears. Griffins were frequently

used as gargoyles on medieval churches and buildings.

Westminster enters this season after going 27-7 in 2009-10 and winning a second consecutive Frontier Conference championship with a 13-1 conference mark. The Griffins advanced to the second round of the Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship, picking up an opening round victory over Lambuth, 67-55. During the year, Westminster put together a 13-game winning streak and ascended as high as No. 9 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll.

This year’s team welcomes back nine players and three starters from the 2009-10 squad. The returners accounted for 56% of the total points scored last season along with 52% of the rebounds and 57% of the assists. Last year’s team led the nation in both field goal percentage (.483) and 3-point field goal percentage (.401).

Nicole Yazzie returns this season after being named an honorable mention All-American during her freshman campaign. Yazzie finished second on the team in scoring at 13.3 points per game while leading the Frontier Conference in assists at 4.66 per night. Also back are seniors Dani Evans and Angela Fales. Evans ranks ninth in school history with 695 career points and is sixth in games played at 99. Fales averaged four points and four rebounds during her junior year with the Griffins.

Michelle Pace returns for a secodn chance at a senior season after suffering a knee injury after just two gaes last seaosn. Pace was granted a medical hardship exemption by the NAIA which allows her one more year of eligibility. She will be asked to fill the shoes of Third Team All-American McKenzie Jessop who gradutaed. In her junior year, Pace averaged 7.6 points and five rebounds per game.

Allie Eastman also returns from a knee injury this seaosn. She made 28 appearances for the Griffins last season and averaged 11.7 points per game while shooting 47.1% from the field. Eastman shot 40.8% from 3-point territory and grabbed 3.3 rebounds per outing.

Transfers Jenteal Jackson and Dana Bates will be looked upon for important minutes this season. Jackson appeared in 31 games during her two seasons at Brigham Young. She scored 33 career points with 21 assists before missing most of last season with an injury.

Bates averaged 17 points per game with Big Bend Community College last season to lead the team. In 26 games, Bates grabbed 10 reboudns per game with 36 assists while shooting 40.7% from the floor.

Offensive NotebookWestminster averaged 76.9 points per game last season and ranked 11th in the NAIA in that department. The Griffins led the nation in field goal percentage and 3-point field goal percentage while ranking third in 3-point field goals made with 318. Westminster also distributed the ball well with 17.5 assists per game to rank fifth nationally.

Nicole Yazzie was 10th nationally with her 4.7 assists per game and 11th with 149 total assists. Allie Eastman ranked 13th in the country with her 40.8% shooting from beyond the arc with Yazzie ranking 16th at 40.5%. Among the returners, Yazzie, Eastman, Michelle Pace and Dani Evans al averaged double figures in scoring one year ago.

Defensive NotebookWestminster attacked the ball last season, ranking 17th in the NAIA with 368 steals and 30th in steals per game at 10.8. The Griffins held the opposition to 38.5% shooting from the field while collecting 26.1 defensive rebounds per contest. They also blocked 102 shots at a clip of three per game to rank in the top 35 in each category. The 64.3 points per game they allowed was the 48th-best total in the country.

Olivia Pierce-Eiselein was 22nd in the NAIA with 48 blocked shots and set the school record for blocks in a season with that total. She is already third in school history in career blocked shots after just one season with the Griffins. Eastman and Yazzie each finished in the top 10 of the Frontier Conference in steals per game while Yazzie and Evans were in the top 20 in the Frontier in defensive rebounds.

Frontier FavoritesIn a poll of the Frontier Conference women’s basketball coaches, the Westminster women’s basketball team was chosen to win the 2010-11 championship. The Griffins received five first-place votes and 47.5 total points in the poll. They also received a split first-place vote with Lewis-Clark State College. This is the first time the Griffin shave been chosen to win the league and the first time they have received a first-place vote.

Nation Taking NoticeThe Westminster women’s basketball team will start the 2010-11 season with a No. 10 national ranking. The NAIA Women’s Division I Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Preseason Poll was released by the NAIA on October 25 with the Griffins receiving 223 points to earn the highest preseason ranking in school history. Westminster finished last season ranked ninth in the final poll.

Doubling UpWestminster will play on back-to-back nights 10 times during the 2010-11 season. The Griffins played nine back-to-backs last season and came up with six sweeps and three splits. The team went 9-2 in the first game of the back-to-back and matched that with a 9-2 record in the second night.

Home CookingOver the past two seasons, Westminster has gone 26-5 at home including a perfect 14-0 in Frontier Conference action. They have won 17 straight conference home games dating back to the 2007-08 season with the last conference home loss coming on January 24, 2008 to Carroll, 66-56.

Handling Their BusinessThe Griffins went 24-0 against teams that were not ranked in the NAIA top 25 last season. Over the past two seasons, Westminster is 48-2 against non-ranked opponents. The last unranked team to defeat Westminster was Georgetown College (Ky.) on December 6, 2008. That is a span of 40 straight wins over unranked opposition.

Schedule FactsThe two-time defending Frontier Conference champions will play 14 games inside the Behnken Field House during the upcoming season along with three road trips to California. The schedule features four 20-win teams along with three that qualified for NAIA postseason action last season.

During the season, Westminster will face teams from six different conferences, along with two exhibiton games against teams from the Mountain West Conference.

The Frontier Conference Tournament is slated for March 1-7 with games ebing played at the home site of the highest seeds. Westminster has been to No. 1 seed in the tournament ech of the past two seasons.

The 2011 Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship will again beheld in Jackson, Tennessee from March 16-22. Oman Arena has been host to the tournament since 1990 and the Griffins have qualified for the past four tournaments.

JD Gustin returns for his seventh season at the helm of the Westminster

women’s basketball program. During his tenure the team has placed itself

on the national map, making four consecutive trips to the NAIA National

Championships. Gustin has gone 118-76 during his first six years at

Westminster. Westminster has won two Frontier Conference championships

under Gustin.

Gustin guided the Griffins to a second consecutive 27-7 record. They also

won a second consecutive Frontier Conference regular season title with

a 13-1 record. Westminster advanced to the second round of the NAIA

Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship. With a 82-55 win over

Northern New Mexico on December 5, Gustin earned his 100th career victory.

After leading the team to school records for wins and winning percentage in

2007-08, Gustin topped both in 2008-09. That season the Griffins went 27-7

(.794) overall and won their first Frontier Conference championship by going

a perfect 14-0 during conference action. The Griffins advanced to the second

round of the NAIA National Championships for the second time in three years

after beating Loyola to open the event.

Gustin guided the Griffins to a 24-9 record during the 2007-08 season.

They received an at-large invite to the NAIA National Championships, the

second such invite in as many years. On December 4, 2007, Gustin earned

his 50th career win when the team beat in-state rival Dixie State. He became

the winningest coach in school history with a 67-51 win over Great Falls on

January 12, 2008.

In 2006–07 Gustin guided Westminster to a 22-12 record and a trip to

the NAIA National Tournament. This was the first-ever trip to the national

tournament in the history of the program. They claimed an opening round

victory against Point Loma Nazarene before falling in the round of 16 to

Southern Nazarene.

Gustin led the Griffins to 16 wins in 2005–06, including six over NAIA top 25

opponents. Westminster received votes in the top 25 poll the entire 2005–06

season.

Before making his way to Salt Lake City, Gustin was the women’s basketball

assistant coach at Rocky Mountain College in his home town of Billings,

Montana. He also served as Assistant Athletic Director, Sports Information

Director, and JV coach during his two years at Rocky.

During the 2000–2001 season, Gustin was an assistant coach for the Billings

RimRockers of the International Basketball Association, a developmental

men’s professional organization located in Billings, Montana.

Coach Gustin also served as assistant women’s coach at his alma mater,

Montana Western, then called Western Montana College. During his time

there, Western won the Frontier Conference tournament and advanced to the

NAIA National Tournament for the first time.

Gustin was a student assistant to his college coach, Mark Durham, after he

finished his playing career in 1997. He graduated with a degree in Secondary

Education (Biology/History) from Western Montana College.

Gustin, who received his Masters Degree in Education from Westminster,

has 11 years of experience as a player or coach in the NAIA and the Frontier

Conference.

JD and his wife Trish have two girls, Avery (five) and Reese (three). The family

lives in South Jordan, Utah.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL STAFF

Dave Hammer returns for his third season as the top assistant for the Westminster women’s basketball team. He has helped the team to two 27-7 records, a conference season record of 27-1 and two NAIA national tournament quarterfinal appearances, along with back-to-back conference player of the year performers.

Hammer served as an assistant coach and player development coordinator for Salt Lake Metro, a local basketball club, from 2003 – 2009. Hammer also worked as a boys varsity assistant at East High School and Head JV Coach. Prior to taking on the role with Salt Lake Metro, Hammer served as a student assistant coach at his alma mater, Menlo College.

A graduate of Menlo College in Atherton, California, where he played two seasons under Head Coach Keith Larsen. He also played for Head Coach Norm Parrish for two seasons at the Salt Lake Community College where Hammer received the SLCC Men’s Basketball Academic Award.

At Menlo, Hammer earned his Bachelor’s degree in business management graduating Magna Cum Laude. He was on the Dean’s List every semester at Menlo and was a member of the National Honor Society in 2002.

Hammer lives in Bountiful, Utah and has one daughter Hannah (four).

Lance Barton is returning to Griffin Basketball, this time as an assistant coach with the women’s team. Barton is a former player on Westminster’s men’s team under Coach Tommy Connor. During his two years as a player, he twice earned Academic All-Conference honors and the Griffins were champions of the Frontier Conference while earning a trip to the NAIA National Championships.

Since he finished playing, Barton has been coaching either the AAU, high school or college levels. He was a graduate assistant with Westminster’s men’s program for two seasons while finishing his Bachelor’s of marketing at Westminster. This past season he was the girl’s JV coach and varsity assistant at Richfield High School in Richfield, Utah where they won the 3A state championship.

Prior to Westminster, Barton played basketball for two seasons at Everett Community College in Washington Sate which was followed by a two year LDS mission to Chicago. A native to the Seattle area, Lance graduated from Lake Stevens High School where he played football, basketball and track.

Barton says his greatest takeaway from Westminster is his wife Brittani who played volleyball as a Griffin. They have been married for four years and have a one year old son named Derek. Lance currently works in the Admissions office for Westminster and he and his family live in the Sugarhouse area.

AFFILIATIONS

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) is a completely autonomous association currently administering programs of intercollegiate athletics for approximately 330 fully accredited colleges and universities of moderate enrollment.

The fundamental tenet of the NAIA is that intercollegiate athletics is an integral part of the total educational program of the institution. This belief is strongly reflected in the governing documents, activities and organizational structure of the Association.

Established in 1940 as the National Association of Intercollegiate Basketball (NAIB), the Association expanded to include other programs in 1952. The NAIA became the first intercollegiate sports governing body to provide championship opportunities for both men andwomen when the women’s program was established on August 1, 1980.

The purpose of the NAIA is to promote education and development of students through intercollegiate athletic participation. Member institutions, although varied and diverse, share a common commitment to high standards and the principle that athletes serve as an integral part of education.

The NAIA embraces the concept of the student and recognizes the importance of the individuality of each member institution, the value of the conference and regional structure, and the benefits of membership in a national association.

The NAIA Champions of Character program is an educational outreach initiative which emphasizes the tenets of character and integrity, not only for NAIA college students, but for younger students, coaches and parents in our communities.

Coaches, parents, administrators and community partners all have a role in developing students of character. The NAIA Champions of Character program brings them training, guidelines and

behavior models to create positive environments that promote personal growth and fun sport activity.

The Frontier Conference was organized in 1935 with four of the eight existing colleges as charter members. Carroll College joined in 1938. For a 10-year period, from 1974 to 1984, the College of Great Falls, now the University of Great Falls competed in the conference. Great Falls rejoined the Frontier in 1999-2000. For a short time, MSU-Billings (then Eastern Montana College) was a member of the league.

New members in 1998-99 were Lewis-Clark State College of Lewiston, Idaho and Westminster College of Salt Lake City, Utah. This made the conference now with schools in three states.

The conference now consists of Carroll College, Eastern Oregon University (football only), University of Great Falls, Lewis-Clark State College, Montana State University-Northern, Montana Tech, University of Montana Western, Rocky Mountain College, and Westminster College.

The purpose of the Frontier Conference is to encourage, promote, sponsor and control athletic competition among participating colleges as an integral part of the total educational process. With their motto, “The Best in academics and athletics,” members compete for conference championships in football, basketball, golf, volleyball, soccer, and cross country.

The Westminster women’s basketball team finished the 2009-10 season at 27-7 and claimed a second consecutive Frontier Conference regular season championship. The Griffins were ranked a school-best No. 9 in the final coaches’ poll and earned a No. 3 seed in the NAIA National Championships. They advanced to the second round of national tournament for the third time in four seasons.

After starting the season 4-4, Westminster won 13 straight games. That was the second longest winning streak in school history. They finished 13-1 during the Frontier Conference season and dropped an 80-60 decision in the Frontier Conference Tournament Championship game to Lewis-Clark State College. The Griffins defeated Lambuth 67-55 in the NAIA National Championship opening round before falling 62-52 against Oklahoma Christian in round two.

Westminster led the NAIA in field goal percentage at 49.1% 3-point field goal percentage at 40.9%. McKenzie Jessop led five Griffins that averaged double figures in scoring at 13.0 points per game. Jessop also led the team with 238 rebounds and 104 steals. Her 3.2 steals per game was the fourth highest total in the NAIA. Nicole Yazzie posted 13.3 points per game while distributing 149 assists. Keshia Catten averaged 13.1 points per game and set a school record with 80 made 3-pointers in a season.

Jessop was named the Frontier Conference Player of the Year and Third Team All-American. She became the third Griffin to be named the Frontier’s top performer and the fifth to make an All-America team. Jessop was also named the Frontier Defensive Player of the year and First Team All-Frontier Conference. Yazzie was the Frontier Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Frontier. Catten joined Jessop and Yazzie on the All-Frontier First Team while Allie Eastman was named Second Team All-Frontier Conference. Head Coach JD Gustin was honored by the Frontier Conference as the Coach of the Year for the second time in his career.

Five Griffins were named Daktronics/NAIA Scholar Athletes this season. Catten, Dani Evans, Jessop, Nicole Lynch, and Michelle Pace were all honored by the NAIA for posting a GPA between 3.5 and 4.0. The five recipients is the second most for a single season in Westminster history.

SHAY WYATTDirector of Athletics5th Year at WestminsterIn September 2006, Shay Wyatt was hired as Director of Athletics at Westminster College. Under his guidance the intercollegiate athletic program has experienced growth and success. Wyatt’s leadership has led to increases in the number of sports offered, enrollment, academic and athletic success,

departmental budget, community service efforts amongst student-athletes, fundraising, corporate partners, ticket revenue, attendance at athletic events, coaches and support staff and he spearheaded strategic planning efforts for the Athletics Department. Under his guidance, Westminster Athletics has experienced facility enhancements, improved eligibility and compliance processes, branding and website technologies, licensing and apparel agreements have been established and a student-athlete advisory committee and student fan group were formed. Wyatt has served on various institutional committees and was recently appointed to serve on the National Administrative Committee of the NAIA which sets policy and procedures for the national organization.

Prior to Westminster College, Wyatt served as Director of Sports Marketing and Bruin Club at Salt Lake Community College in 2006. While only at SLCC for a short period of time, he secured the athletic department’s largest ever corporate sponsorship.

From 2001-2006, Wyatt served as the Wildcat Club Executive Director at Weber State University. He was responsible for the development efforts for the athletics department including annual giving, major gifts, endowments, special events and donor relations. The Wildcat Club experienced an increase in annual giving totals each year Wyatt was at the helm, including a 17% increase in 2004. He was instrumental in securing more than $350,000 in football suites, club seating and basketball preferred seating.

Wyatt made his way to Weber State via Utah Valley State College where he served as the Director of Development for Athletics from 1999-2001. He was responsible for creating the fund raising arm of the athletic department, serving as the first-ever development director at UVSC. In this role he defined all aspects of annual giving and major gift opportunities. Upon his arrival at UVSC he increased annual giving by 30% in his first year. He served as a member of the strategic planning committee, planning the college’s move from NJCAA to NCAA Division I.

From 1995-1998, Wyatt served as the Athletic Events Coordinator at the University of Utah. He was responsible for all aspects of event and facility management. He served as Assistant Tournament Manager for the 1997 NCAA West Region First/Second Rounds Men’s Basketball Tournament. He represented the athletics department as a liaison for athletic facility renovation and construction projects including the $50 million dollar, 50,000-seat football stadium renovation of Rice-Eccles Stadium and several other facility construction projects totaling more than $4 million.

A native of Murray, Utah, Wyatt attended Bethel College in Newton, Kansas where he was a letterman in football. He graduated in 1993 with a degree in health, physical education and recreation. He holds a Masters degree from Wichita State University in sports administration. Wyatt prepped locally at Murray High School (Utah.) He attended Cisco (Texas) JC and Snow (Utah) JC where he played football for both schools. Wyatt is married to the former Mickelle Marston. They have two sons Drew (7) and Jake (4).

Payne Gymnasium houses the newly renovated Griffins strength and athletic training facilities, auxiliary basketball court, locker rooms, and offices for men’s and women’s lacrosse and men’s soccer. Built during the term of President Herbert W. Reherd (1913–1939), it was named after the president of the Board of Trustees and manager of the local J.C. Penney Company; groundbreaking was July 1928 and dedication January 11, 1929.

Though the college worried that it was frivolous to spend money on a gymnasium, the facility, designed by architect Walter E. Ware, provided badly needed recreation for the school and groups in the entire Sugar House area. It was added to and remodeled in 1970 under President Manford Shaw (1968–1976), and has housed the basketball and volleyball programs, dances, speakers, luncheons, career fairs, orientations, and a variety of other cultural and social student events—including being the practice facility for the Utah Jazz from 1979 to May 1999.

BEHNKEN FIELD HOUSE

The Dolores Dore Eccles Heatlh, Wellness and Athletic Center is a three-story, 84,500-square-foot facility, completed in 2006, that houses Griffins Athletics and includes a swimming pool, full complement of fitness equipment, a weight room and exercise studio, and a technically challenging, 46-foot climbing wall. Above a field house that holds 1,200 spectators is a suspended running track with a high-tech surface and corner windows with views. The field house includes an athletic training room, locker rooms, team meeting rooms, coaches offices, and equipment storage space for our popular Griffin intercollegiate sports, including men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, and women’s volleyball.

DUMKE FIELD

Dumke Field, on the site of the Dane Hansen Stadium, was opened October 2, 1949, by college president Robert D. Steele (1939–1952). It was a gift of the George Hansen family in memory of a son and brother, Lt. Dane Hansen, Class of 1940, who lost his life in World War II. Having had seating for 1,200 attendants, the stadium had been the college soccer and activities field, commencement green, and later a paved parking facility. In fall 2005, it was transformed into a parking structure, with an elevated artificial turf athletic field on top. This facility is now the home field for the Griffins men’s and women’s soccer and men’s lacrosse teams.

MICHAEL BASSISPresidentDr. Michael S. Bassis is the sixteenth president of Westminster College. An authority on educational change and an active participant in the national conversation on the future of higher education, Bassis has had a wide range of experiences as a teacher, scholar, and administrator over his 30-year career in higher education. Prior to coming to Westminster, he held senior administrative and faculty appointments at a number of institutions

including the New College of Florida, Antioch University in Ohio, and at the University of Rhode Island. A graduate of Brown University, Dr. Bassis holds MA and PhD degrees from the University of Chicago.

CID SEIDELMANProvostDr. Cid Seidelman joined Westminster in 1980 as an

economics instructor and, after obtaining his PhD at

the University of Utah, served as director of both the

economics program and the MBA program. He

served as dean of the Bill and Vieve Gore School

of Business for 13 years, and in 2005, having held

the position of Interim Provost, Seidelman became

Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.

A native of Illinois, he received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Eastern

Illinois University.

SUSAN HEATHAssociate ProvostDr. Susan Heath is the Associate Provost for Student

Development. She joined Westminster in 1985 as

the Director of Counseling and Career Services after

completing an internship at the University of Utah

Counseling Center. Heath later served as Associate

Dean and Dean of Students and Director of Academic

and Career Development. A native of California,

Heath earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology

from Pomona College and a PhD in psychology from Southern Illinois University at

Carbondale.

ACADEMICSWestminster offers more than 70 academic programs, including 34 majors, from accounting and international business to nursing and sociology. The most popular majors are business, nursing, psychology, and education. In addition, the college offers a variety of minors and 10 graduate programs. About 95 percent of the students go to graduate school or are employed within six months of graduation. The nursing program has a 100 percent placement rate. In addition to Westminster’s successful outcomes, a Utah Foundation study found that Westminster graduates have among the highest starting salaries of any university graduates in the state. These high starting salaries were attributed in part to the fact that nearly 70 percent of students complete an internship before they graduate.

HISTORYWestminster College has played a pivotal role in the educational heritage of the intermountain area. Founded in 1875 as the Salt Lake Collegiate Institute, a preparatory school, Westminster first offered college classes in 1897 as Sheldon Jackson College. Named in honor of its primary benefactor, Sheldon Jackson, the college operated for many years on the Collegiate Institute campus in downtown Salt lake City. Gradually the institute became identified as the college preparatory department, and high school classes continued to be an integral part of the curriculum until 1945. In 1902, college trustees adopted the new name, Westminster. Moving to its present location in 1911, Westminster became the first accredited two-year junior college in the intermountain area. In 1935 Westminster modified its curriculum to qualify as a four-year junior college and in 1949 became a four-year liberal arts institution offering baccalaureate degrees in the arts and sciences.

Today Westminster exists as a fully independent, privately funded, nondenominational, comprehensive liberal arts institution of higher learning with selected graduate programs, meeting the West’s educational needs as it has since 1875.

GRIFFIN ATHLETICSThe Westminster College Intercollegiate Athletics program is an integral part of campus life, serving more than 250 student-athletes annually. The athletics program has experienced both regional and national success over the years, with national championships, national tournament appearances, conference titles, All-Conference and All-American academic and athletic honors. The athletic program has a rich tradition, storied history and many athletic alumni dating back to 1928.

The Griffins athletic program consists of 17 varsity and club sport teams and is a member of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) Division I level. Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Cross Country & Track, Golf, Women’s Volleyball and Women’s Soccer compete in the Frontier Conference with schools from Montana and Idaho. Men’s Soccer competes as an NAIA independent (no conference affiliation). Men’s Lacrosse is a member of the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) and competes in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC). Women’s Lacrosse competes in the Rocky Mountain Women’s Lacrosse League (RMWLL) which is part of U.S. Lacrosse and the Women’s Division Intercollegiate Associates (WDIA). Men’s and Women’s Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding compete in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA). Alpine skiing competes as a member of the Grand Teton Conference.

ABOUT THE GRIFFIN CLUBThe Griffin Club is a membership club established to ensure a quality experience for Griffin student-athletes by promoting a supportive relationship between the Westminster athletic program and alumni, faculty, staff, parents, friends and businesses. Griffin Club membership is open to anyone interested in giving financial support to Westminster Athletics. Monies raised through the Griffin Club provide financial support for our sport programs and allow Westminster to enhance the athletic program and overall student-athlete experience in ways that otherwise would not be possible.

In addition to raising needed funds, the Griffin Club will provide information on the athletics program to it’s members, develop activities to bring members together in social setting’s and foster a positive enthusiasm that will reflect on the athletic program. Donors may designate 50% of their gift (non-scholarship) to a specific sport of your choosing, while the remaining 50% of your gift will be designated to the general athletic fund to provide needed funding to positively impact the entire athletic program. If desired, members also have the option of earmarking their gift for athletic scholarships to be used for incoming freshman or transfer student-athletes (all scholarship gifts will go to the athletic scholarship fund - see membership application for more details.)

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITSDepending on your level of giving, Griffin Club members will receive a Griffin sports pass, electronic media guides and newsletters, which includes a calendar of events, news and features on Griffin athletics, invites to special events, 10% discount at the bookstore, donor recognition, Athletic Directors annual luncheon and special appreciation gift. Benefits will take affect July 1, 2009.

METHODS OF GIVING•Cash Gifts: Cash is always a great way to give and is generally 100% deductible with the IRS depending upon your personal circumstances.•Credit Card: You may make a one-time gift to the college on your credit card, or charge a monthly donation. As with all financial records held by the college, your credit card information is kept confidential.•Payroll Deductions: Payroll deductions are a convenient way for Westminster College employees to contribute to the Griffin Club.•Corporate Giving: Through most of its history, Westminster has worked closely with corporations through a variety of partnerships that have benefited the students, faculty and community. By making gifts to Westminster, corporations strengthen their relationship with emerging talent, support departments engaged in programs related to their interests, introduce their companies and their products to future users and consumers, and support and encourage the philanthropy of their employees.•Matching Gifts: Many companies offer matching gift programs that allow their employees to effectively match, double, or triple their gifts to Westminster. Contact your employer to find out your company’s matching gift policy or our Annual Giving office for more information.•Gifts-in-Kind: Gifts of product, merchandise, equipment or services are often provided in support of the Athletic Department to help offset expenses.•Capital Gifts: These gifts are used for athletic facility enhancements, upgrades and/or new construction projects.•Real Estate: Several approaches are available for gifts of real estate, and donors are usually entitled to an income tax deduction. Contact the Office of Institutional Advancement for information if you are considering a real estate gift.•Memorial Gifts: You may make a memorial gift to Westminster in honor of a loved one, a favorite professor, or to commemorate a significant event such as a child’s graduation.•Stocks & Securities: Stocks, mutual funds, bonds, and other securities given to the college may provide a considerable savings in capital gains taxes for the donor. Arrangements for your gift can be made between your broker and Westminster’s Vice President of Financial Affairs.•Planned Gifts: Many friends and alumni choose to contribute to Westminster College by remembering the college in their will or estate plan. These planned gifts can provide for student scholarships, capital projects, and endowment growth. Donors may benefit from planned gifts by receiving tax benefits including reduction in income tax, capital gain tax, or estate tax.
